Chapter seventy-eight

Daniel’s POV

I woke up when I heard a crash. Bolting awake on the bed, I reached under my pillow for my gun. Leaping off the bed, I held the gun in front of me and started to tiptoe away from the door, past the hallway.

Hearing the rustle of clothes, I stopped and pressed myself up against the wall, holding my breath. Whoever it was, was none the wiser and continued to walk. The entire house was pitch black, not one single light bulb on and I knew that wasn't the way we left it.

Keeping quiet, I waited for the intruder to leave and then ran towards the door, stopping so that I could press my nose to the window.

I saw a flash of white and then red clothing which reminded me of Caleb.

I thought fast on my feet and ran back the same way I came, bypassing my room door and knocking quickly on Caleb's. I kept the sounds low and muted, but after several seconds of no response, I rapped even harder on the door.
