Sarah When I woke up Joshua was gently rubbing my head, whispering in my ear. “Wake up sleepy head. Everyone wants to go on a hike today.” I didn’t dare tell him I’d barely gotten any sleep. My foot nudged Tyler's chair. He woke up from the stir and frowned at me. "Sorry, did I disturb you?" I apologized. He looked up and met my gaze. I smiled sweetly and tucked my hair behind my ear. In the past few days, Melissa had nurtured me well with the best of everything. I used to be insecure, dark-skinned, and thin. Now my appearance had changed. The contrast was enough to stun him.

Chapter 27 Third POV Elara awoke to a faint sliver of light filtering through the darkened cave, its soft glow reflecting off the still pond. She blinked, adjusting her eyes to the gentle shimmer as she slowly sat up, confusion momentarily clouding her thoughts. The last thing she remembered was collapsing into sleep, her body aching and sore from the torment of hunger and exhaustion. But now, as she stretched her limbs, she felt nothing but strength, as though the fatigue and pain had been swept away by some unseen force.

The air in the room felt heavier suddenly, like it had changed density without warning. My heartbeat slowed for half a second, then picked up again too strongly. A voice came from below. Liam. My body responded before my thoughts did. I stepped back from the window instinctively, like something had just been alerted inside me. It spread under my skin in a way that made my fingers curl without permission. I looked down at them and saw a faint tremor. Not fear exactly. Something older than that.
