Then, the sharp, jarring vibration of her cell phone broke the absolute silence.
It buzzed aggressively against the nightstand. Hazel flinched, her heart giving a quick jolt. She carefully reached out, holding her breath as she slid her body out from under Xavier’s heavy arm. He shifted slightly in his sleep, letting out a low murmur, but didn't wake up.
Hazel grabbed the phone and padded softly into the master bathroom, pulling the heavy frosted glass door shut behind her.
