Chapter 31 - Gianna

The food was delicious, though it was more than I usually allowed myself to eat. But, I truly enjoyed every last bit of it. I have to say I was secretly glad that Mason had decided to convince me to order a burger now instead of the salad; because as much as I don’t mind salad, I don’t think it would have lived up to the burger…“You want another coffee?” Mason looked across the table at me as I placed my cutlery onto my plate. I felt so full now, I think I was ready to fall asleep! The meal with him had been surprisingly enjoyable. We chatted so leisurely as we ate, and laughed so much as we joked, and he told me about his friends. It seemed they were all incredibly close, and I loved hearing the many tales he had to tell of their time together. The time passed so quickly. But I didn’t know if agreeing to another coffee seemed too eager. I did not want to give him the wrong impression. I had literally spent the majority of my day with this man. A man that only a matter of days ago wa

Chapter 32 - Mason

Okay. I asked to see her again. Was that the worst move in the world? Gianna evidently thought so, as she ran out of the restaurant quicker than a horse out of the racing blocks. Perhaps it was too soon? I am so shit at this. So out of practice. And this time, it had cost me. Because I was now alone. I messed up...‘No shit, Sherlock.’ My wolf, Echo, very unhelpfully piped up. As I stood to go and pay the waiter, who I was damn sure had one hell of an irritating smirk upon that annoying face of his. What frustrated me more was Gianna had thrown money down for her meal. I asked her to join me. Did that not indicate I was paying? I did not expect her to give me money for the meal, and the fact that she felt she should made me unsettled.‘Well, consider it an excuse to see her again, and apologize for being a blathering fool.’ Echo said kindly. Wow, my wolf was being ever so supportive today. Just what I needed. But maybe he did have a point. I could try to at least catch her up and pay

Chapter 33 - Gianna

I returned home to the apartment as quickly as I could, ensuring to take a couple of diversions in case I was being followed. I know I am beyond crazy. Likely overthinking. But, with a crazed ex on my tail, and having been chased out of a restaurant by a guy I ran out on, I think today, more than ever, my mind over-running may be more than valid. And I was not ready to risk my safety. Ever since I had been told that Dalton had reappeared, I had been taking diversions on my way to my new home, just to be on the safe side.I couldn't help but think back to the mess tonight had turned into; only coming to the conclusion that I should have done the sensible thing and never listened to Noushka. I should never have been sweet talked into going to dinner with Mason. No matter how handsome or charming he may be. He was not someone I needed to be getting involved with right now. In doing so, I had landed myself in an awkward situation. But it is so damn hard to say no to him! The way he looke

Chapter 34 - Gianna

I knew, even coming off the phone with Tavi, I had no chance of sleep. She knew that too, so we decided to continue chatting. It was something we had done so many times before when we lived together, sitting chatting into the early hours of the morning. We always found things to talk about, and she was an appreciated distraction. Making me smile at the strange things she spoke of...I went to the wardrobe, pulled out the storage tin from the back, under my holdall, and walked back to the floor of the lounge. Sitting down cross-legged, I pulled off the lid of the old metallic tin, and tipped the contents out on the floor. My savings. Everything I have worked for since my arrival here. My escape funds...A large pile of notes lied around me as I began to count just how much money I had. I have been saving since the moment I ran from Dalton and our life within the Galcier Shadow Pack. Any jobs I had, I kept the minimum amount to live off, and the rest I would save. My final goal was alw

Chapter 35 - Mason

I loved my pack, of course I did. I was the Alpha, after all. Yet today, I had been reluctant to head home. Reluctant to leave town with the situation unresolved with Gianna, but no way of fixing it. So, returning home seemed the only thing I could do, with the plan to bury my head in paperwork. I walked back into the packhouse only to walk straight into Levi. A knowing smirk upon his face. “Oh, so you are alive then?” he said accusingly. “We were about to send a search party out for you.”I rolled my eyes at my friend. He was cheeky fuck. It wasn’t like I hadn’t let him know I was headed out. I had literally asked him if he was okay to cover duties for me. “You knew I had stuff to do.”“Dancers to chat up, you mean?” he said with a grin, and I looked at him with a frown.“What gave you that idea? I said I was out on business.”Levi chuckled. The expression upon his face said so much without saying a word. My friend was an ass. “The business of trying to get that dancer into your be

Chapter 36 - Gianna

I had somehow managed to sleep, once I had come off the phone to Tavi, though the sleep was fitful. Dreams of Mason interspersed with flashes of Dalton. Even a mixture of the two. Fears they were involved with one another in some form or another, though I had no real reason for that logic…Yet somehow, I had made it to the morning. Relatively refreshed, and got myself showered. It was late morning by the time I had refreshed myself further with multiple mugs of coffee, and watching brain-numbing morning TV before I was ready to head out of the door. Ready to head to work for another shift. I couldn't help but wonder if Mason might turn up.Though first I had to get there, and that thought alone filled me with anxiety. Each day since hearing Dalton had found me, I dreaded going out of the place I now called home, with the fear he would be there waiting for me. But thankfully, that was yet to happen, and hopefully, he had taken Tavi’s lies as the truth and believed I had moved away…Fra

Chapter 37 - Mason

Sitting in my office with a stack of paperwork to deal with was far from ideal when my mind was definitely on other things. I had not slept well, and the excessive amounts of coffee I had drunk only added to the unsettled sensation pulsing through my body.Levi had chosen to come and irritate me for the past hour, and I didn’t know whether it was a blessing or a hindrance right now, as he was most certainly not helping me with my workload. And his incessant wittering was beginning to give me a headache.“Do you think Jasmine would agree to…” he began.Jasmine was his mate, and I really did not want to imagine where this conversation could be headed, because Levi truly had no filters, and was more than willing to discuss all aspects of his life with me. “Dude, I do not want to know what Jas will or will not consent to. She is your mate, you go and ask her.” I interrupted him, earning myself a knowing grin, telling me my guess had likely been right on the money.“I am not sure why your

Chapter 38 - Mason

I sat patiently waiting now for Jaxon to update me with what he had overheard. Was it a bit inappropriate that he had been listening in? Yes. But, curiosity had got the better of me, and I was desperate now to know what had been said, so it was going to be a case of letting that case slide for now. But, just as Jaxon was about to enlighten us with the information he had overheard, he had received a phone call, and we had been placed on hold. Nothing like bad timing, and nothing like putting me on edge! My mind was working overtime with the possibilities of what he may have overheard that he felt I needed to know so urgently that it would require him to call me on the way to a business meeting; and quite honestly, none of the potential scenarios my frazzled, caffeinated brain could conjure up were good.“What were the chances Jax would bump into her?” Levi asked with a smile. Maybe even a little smugness behind his smile. “You think she would have recognized him after spending so long

Chapter 39 - Gianna

I had not been able to shake the fact that it was likely Mason’s friend who had been standing right behind Tavi and me in the queue in the coffee shop, and more than likely listening in to our conversation. I am sure that was who he was. I had thought I recognized his face the moment he walked into the coffee shop. But, while his face looked vaguely familiar, I had been unable to place it, because the night I had seen him my main focus had been Mason. But, the more I thought of it, I was sure it was Mason's friend. And, I was more and more sure he had heard more than I would have wanted him to. No, I think it was almost a certainty that he was listening in, considering he almost choked at Tavi's inappropriateness. My mind had been distracted all the way through my shift, unable to help myself but ponder whether his friend would have told Mason what he had heard. And when that wasn’t on my mind, my eyes were back and forth to the door, wondering why Mason hadn’t decided to come and vi

Chapter 40 - Gianna

That heavy grip upon my arm pulled me back, and with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach I raised my gaze to meet the eyes I had hoped never to see again. “I thought it was you.” his voice was angry. "The fact you were walking as fast as those pretty little feet could carry you was another giveaway."His voice was every bit as cold and sadistic as I remembered. He hadn't changed, not that I would have expected him to have. And my whole body trembled in fear. I had thought I had got away from him. I was hours away from our home pack, and had traveled from town to town over the months since leaving him in a bid to avoid his detection. But, it seemed like my worst nightmare had finally found me.“Dalton…” I began, my voice trembling, instantly indicating my fear, causing him to smirk. As always, he was getting a kick out of my terror. Sick fucker that he was. He had loved every moment of my fear since the initial effects of the matebond had worn off. I could feel the weight of hi
