Chapter 31

Kit’s POV Damian and I finished our breakfast just in time for Alpha Jace to reappear in the dining room, and when he looked at me, I could see the look of concern in his eyes, before he looks at Damian and says, “Hey buddy, why don’t you go outside and play on the swing set for a moment, while your mother and I have an adult conversation.” “Okay, daddy.” Damian said as he got up from his chair and took off outside just as Alpha Jace had asked him to do. Worry began to fill me at that moment why he needed to have an adult conversation with me without Damian being in the room, and I knew whatever Beta Gauge had told him had to concern me. Alpha Jace moved to his chair and took a seat, and I could see the look of frustration in his eyes now, which told me, whatever it was, it wasn’t good. Alpha Jace then reached for my hands taking them into his, as he looked into my eyes telling me, what he was about to say, was going to e

Chapter 32

Kit’s POV Even after the news from my family, Alpha Jace kept his word of spending the day together to Damian, after I had washed my face and reapplied my makeup and pulled myself back together. But as I now stood in front of the lionesses’ enclosure, my eyes were glued on one particular mother and her cub. The mother seemed to be overprotective of the little cub, as the others tried to come near it, and I had to wonder why she was not allowing the others around it, since the rest were happily playing together. But as the little guy went to stand, I realized that he was hurt, and she was trying to keep him safe from the others. The little cub tried to move towards where the other cubs were playing, but the mother stopped him by the cuff of his neck pulling him back to her. It was clear that he just wanted to go and play with the other cubs, but because of his limp, she was trying to keep him safe from anyone further hurting him.

Chapter 33

Kit’s POV It all made sense now why he had taken us in even when I had openly told him I was pregnant with Dom’s child, and why he had moved us directly into his home. Damian was the child of an Alpha and a Beta, and he was perfect to pull off as his own son, deceiving his pack to think he was his. I knew there was a reason that we had been treated so while by the staff and the other members of the pack, and I was sure that they all thought all these years that Damian was his. In a way, I couldn’t be mad at him, because he had given my son and I a place to live, hiding the real truth from everyone, just as I wanted it to be, but I never knew that he had his own agenda behind it too. “So, you want to adopt him, or do you want people to believe that he is yours.” I now ask him, wanting to know what he truly means by the word adopt. Alpha Jace looks around as if he is worried someone will hear us, before he turns back to me

Chapter 34

Kit’s POVI never would have imagined that Beta Gauge would have this information for us so soon, and that I would have to make another important decision so quickly. My head was already spinning with what Alpha Jace had already proposed to me today, and now this turns out to be true about my father. “I know that a lot has been sprung on you today, but I truly believe in my heart that you need to go home and find peace in your heart with your father before he passes. Like I had offered earlier today, I will go with you for your protection, and your family can all believe that Damian is my son. There should be no issues for you as long as I am in your presence.” Alpha Jace then added, as he opens a drawer from his desk and pulls out a black box, before he stood and moved to me with it, handing it to me. Looking down at the black box now in my hands, I wonder what could possibly be inside, and why he was giving it to me now. I hesitated for a moment to op

Chapter 35

Kit’s POV “Do you think he will like me?” Damian asks as we drive down the lane to my father’s estate, a place I was almost positive I would never set foot in again. “I am sure he will love you and be happy to finally meet you.” Alpha Jace tells him, as I remain silent looking out the window, nervous to see my father after all these years. In the seven years that I have been gone, I have refrained from having any communication with anyone back home, in fear that someone might find me, or worst yet find out that I had a son to their now Alpha. Not once in those years had anyone back home looked for me, that was until now, and I had to believe that it had something to do with the announcement of my engagement to Alpha Jace. I had told myself all those years that my father was probably happy to have gotten rid of the burden of me and the shame that I had brought to the family’s name. But here I was, coming back to the place

Chapter 36

Kit’s POV “I’d like a moment alone with my father first.” I told Alpha Jace, as we stood outside my father’s bedroom door, because I feared what my father’s response would be seeing me for the first time after all these years, and I didn’t want to subject Alpha Jace to his cruelty to me. I didn’t want him to hear the foul remarks I was used to receiving from him, because I didn’t want Alpha Jace to think less of me. “I will give you a moment with him.” Alpha Jace said as he moved to take a seat on one of the chairs that sat in the grand hallway. Turning, I placed my hand on the doorknob, and I froze as I took a deep breath, praying to the Moon Goddess that this would go better than I foresee it going in my head, before I turn it, opening the door to my father’s bedroom. The room was eerily silent, as I stepped into the room and took a look around, until my eyes landed on my father laying on his bed, covered with a blanket up to his chin.

Chapter 37

Kit’s POV “Katrina will do no such thing.” Alpha Jace said as he moved to my side, wrapping a protective arm around me, as he let his Alpha’s presence known to my father. My father’s eyes moved from mine to Alpha Jace, as he says, “I am sorry Alpha, but I do not know your reasonings to interfere with my daughter’s and my dealings, nor do I know who you are.” Alpha Jace lets out a low growl towards my father, obviously not liking the fact of what my father said, nor liking the fact that my father feels it’s none of his business. “Let me introduce myself. My name is Alpha Jace of the Mystic Shadow pack, and I am your daughter’s mate. Your dealings with her very much do concern me, and I will not allow you to disrespect her by asking her to prostitute her body out to Alpha Domonic for the sake of your family’s name, especially when she is mated to me.” My father’s eyes moved from Alpha Jace’s to my own, before his eyes moved

Chapter 38

Kit’s POV Turning back once again to my father, I wonder what the other reasoning was that my father wanted to see me, as I couldn’t imagine that it could be anything good from our previous conversation. “What is it then father?” I asked him, wanting more than ever to just head back to my new home with Alpha Jace. “It seems your sister wants nothing to do with my affairs, nor does her husband. She has her hands full with her children and she is expecting another one. The responsibility now falls onto your shoulders, to make sure that my estate is taken care of once I pass.” My father tells me, giving me a hard blow, because I too want nothing to do with the estate either or this pack. “I’m sorry father, but my hands right now are full too. I also have a child, a pack, and a mate to attend too.” I told him, telling a partial lie because I wasn’t quite yet the Luna of the pack, but on the next blood moon I would be. My fath

Chapter 39

Kit’s POV Alpha Jace sat with me in the hallway, as he held my hand, trying to comfort me, while I prayed to the Moon Goddess that my words hadn’t killed my father, making me have to live with another regret in my life. Even though I had hatred in my heart towards my father and the way he treated me, I didn’t want to be the means to the end of his life. The door to my father’s room at that moment opened, and Alpha Jace and I stood immediately as the pack doctor appeared with a look on his face that told me whatever news he had to tell us wasn’t going to be good. “Ms. Katrina, I hate to be the one to give you this news, but your father has only days to live, if that. His health has declined quite a bit since my last visit, as the disease has taken over most of his lungs.” “There’s nothing we can do for him?” I asked the pack doctor, as I held on tightly to Alpha Jace’s hand for support, after hearing what the pack doctor had just confesse

Chapter 40

Kit’s POV “If you don’t feel safe here, I can send some of my men to protect you and Damian.” Alpha Jace says to me, as we stand outside by his vehicle, while he is getting ready to leave me here alone with my father. There was no threat that I felt that his men were needed here, that they could help me with. What I needed was moral support from my father, and that was just something that he could only give me. “No, I will be fine. There’s no need to send your men here.” I told him, secretly wishing that he could stay with me, because I felt safer from my father with him around, knowing that he would stand up for me against him. But with him leaving now, I didn’t have to worry about my father slipping up, telling him about the pills I took all those years ago to suppress my wolf. Alpha Jace leaned in and kissed me on the forehead, before telling me, “I will call you daily to make sure you are okay, but don’t hesitate to call me if you ne
