Chapter 61

Gwen's POV I spent the morning in my room reading the books I picked from the library and after a while, I thought it was best to use this moment when I show Nora by the garden. I had noticed that most times when she stepped out of her room, before she was back in it was till dusk or late evening. My maids were in the room as they brought me some snacks earlier and just decided to stay and arrange my closet. I stood up and walked up to them. “You can both leave, I think I need to rest as I was feeling tired!" I explained to them as they nodded in understanding and bowed before walking out of the closet towards the door when I stopped them.“Wait up! Do you think Alpha Blake is back?” I asked them as they exchanged looks and nodded negatively. "I am not sure as I am not certain if he is back!” Aurelia replied sincerely as she thought deeply but nothing. "I am not sure also but before coming here about five minutes ago, I saw Beta Felix walking into the building!” Elara uttered, loo

Chapter 62

Gwen's POV I was surprised and startled, to say the least, but I was very quick to recover and straighten my posture. Nora's surprise also faded into a sneer as she glared at me. Even though I was still in shock and disbelief which made me speechless, I didn't let her see through me and just met her gaze with the same intensity as she. “Well! Well! Well! Who do we have here? ‘Lady Gwen’, what are you doing here? You seem to have lost your way or should I say memories?" She asked me with a voice dripping with condescension which struck a nerve in me but I had to be calm because I brought this on myself. If I had remained in my room, Nora wouldn't be here sneering and glaring at me with a condensing voice. “I have every right to move to whatever wing of the pack house I was to see and I was just taking a harmless walk. How is that an issue for you? I wasn't walking on your head, I wish I could, or was I walking in your room? You just happen to see me at the front of this and I didn't

Chapter 63

Gwen’s POVMy eyes widened as I watched the confident smile playing on Nora's lips. The defiance in Nora’s voice, the absolute lack of fear, sent shivers down my spine. I had expected denial perhaps anger, but not this brazen display of confidence. Like Nora believed she was untouchable, beyond reproach."What's the matter, lady Gwen?" There was almost a mocking amusement in Nora's voice. "Surprised?"I steadied myself and gathered my thoughts, refusing to be intimidated by Nora's haughtiness. I’m surprised by your audacity, I said. "To think you'd be so bold about it, Nora. I never believed you would be capable of such things."Nora laughed, but the sound felt almost sinister in the still room. "You think you can catch me in the act? Expose me, By all means, go ahead and try. But they prepared for the consequences of what I will do to you."I took a single step closer, narrowing my eyes. "What are you talking about?"Nora’s smiled a bit wider. "Oh lady Gwen, you're just terribly je

Chapter 64

Gwen’s POVI stood frozen, my heart aching as I watched the scene unfold before me. With very slow, deliberate steps, Nora started walking toward Alpha Blake, her shoulders shaking hard with the effect of her tears. She looked so vulnerable, so broken that, for a moment, I almost doubted everything I knew about Nora. Almost. I had hoped, perhaps naively, that Alpha Blake would see through Nora's act. But as Nora reached where Alpha Blake was, she threw her arms around him, and my heart sank. Alpha Blake's facial expression was a mix of worry and perplexity as he spread his arms to accommodate Nora. She collapsed into them, her sobs muffled against his chest. A stab of hurt and disappointment pierced through me. I had expected lots of things from Nora, but this display of vulnerability and manipulation, I never expected such."Nora, what's wrong?" Alpha Blake asked softly, his voice laced with concern. He reached out, stroking her hair in comfort.Nora just held him tight, her sob

Chapter 65

Blake’s POVI put my hands on Nora’s shoulders and shoved her hard enough to break the connection, the moment Gwen turned and walked away. Nora staggered backward, her eyes flying open in surprise and confusion. She stared at me with murmured shock. "What's wrong, Alpha Blake?" she said, her voice shaking.I stepped back, literally running a hand through my hair, my face a picture of frustration and internal conflict. "Nora, this just doesn't feel right," I told her, and my voice was taut. "I've got to understand what's really going on here."Nora's eyes flickered in an effort to understand my sudden change in mood. "Alpha Blake, I told you the truth. Lady Gwen is the one who's mistaken. You have to believe me." Her voice came out begging like she was desperate to take back the trust she felt slipping away.I shook my head, my eyes hardening. "I do believe you, Nora, I said.Nora felt panic rise in her chest. She had been so close to securing my unwavering support. She took a step clo

Chapter 66

Gwen’s POVI was surprised to find Alpha Blake in my room and yet I still stormed in, banging the door. I ignored him, and walked past him, my posture rigid, trying to camouflage the whirl of emotions that were threatening to surface. Alpha Blake watched me, his face unreadable, as I stormed around the room in rigid movements that carried purpose, putting up a few items and tidying up as if his presence did not affect me."Gwen," Alpha Blake finally said, softer, but rather equally insistently.I didn't turn around, I focused on straightening some picture frames on my dresser. "What do you want, Alpha Blake?" I asked, my tone colder than I intended.Alpha Blake sighed, and the sound was heavy with an overlay of weariness. "We need to talk."I went on bustling around, though my movements turned a lot more agitated. "About what? I think we've said everything there is to say."Alpha Blake took a deep breath, his eyes meeting mine with a sincerity that threw me off guard. "I just want

Gwen's POV“Come on, Gwen! I said I am sorry!" He pleased following me around the room. I stopped by the sitting area and turned to him, I was still angry and pissed at him. “You didn't even ask me what happened, did you know how you looked at me?" I asked him. “That must have been unconscious and that is why I am pleading with you to not be angry at me. I'm sorry!" He said for the umpteenth time as I wasn't having it with him. “You always take her side and end up hurting me! You hurt me with your ‘best friend’ attitude with her! I am supposed to be your best friend!" I yelled, wrapped my arms around my chest angrily. The more I saw the picture, the angrier I got. He held my arm and looked at me but I didn't see his eyes. I noticed his eyes were filled with regret. “Gwen, can you just look at me and see my sincerity? I am truly sorry! I shouldn't have even hugged or taken sides with Nora! And I know I hurt you with that silly action, that was why I ran here immediately to apologiz

Chapter 68

Gwen's POV I screamed, the sound shattering the stillness of the room as I felt Blake jolted awake beside me. “Gwen, what is it? Did you have a nightmare again?” He asked me with a thick deep voice of concern… and still sleepy. I didn't respond at once as my body was still trembling with fear, uncontrollably. I looked blankly ahead with terror, I had to brace myself to look around again and this time there was a creation or was it a figure? Anyway, the figure was gone I could still see the silhouettes of the figure in my head and it left this eerie feeling which was attached to his presence. The lamp by the bedside was switched on, flooding the room with its soft glow and reassuring light. Blake drew me closer to him as he followed my gaze. He also scanned the room with his eyes darting to every possible visible corner. I guess he was looking for any sign of danger because of my reaction. “Come on, Gwen! Tell me what the problem is! What happened?" He asked me again with a more u

Chapter 69

Blake's POV I watched Gwen closely as she recounted what she had seen. She took a deep breath to steady her shaky breath before looking up to my gaze. She was really struggling and she could see the terror in her eyes“Blake, I… I saw something,” she started with a stammer, her body trembling uncontrollably. "I saw a creature. A figure! It was in the room, standing some feet away from the bed staring and watching us!” she explained to me as she pointed at the spot she had seen the figure who was a creature.Even though I had dismissed what she said as just stress which birthed all these, I couldn't deny the fear that laced every single word she spoke. She even moved away just because I refused to believe her but that's not true, I was just not ready to accept this!I knew for a fact that she wasn't lying in any way if making it up from some figment of her imagination. This was different from her once-usual nightmares. She believed what she saw and every word that processed out of h

Chapter 70

Gwen’s POVThe next morning, I woke up to find out that the bed was empty, cool sheets being a blatant reminder that Alpha Blake was gone. A flicker of disappointment washed over me. I had hoped to wake up and have him right beside me, his presence a kind of comfort in the storm of emotions that swirled around us.I slowly sat up, stretched, and tried to wave away the remnants of sleep. The rows and tentative steps toward peace of the previous day replayed themselves in my mind. It felt like a fragile peace, one that could shatter with the slightest pressure. I couldn't help but wonder where Alpha Blake had gone so early in the morning.Probably off dealing more pack business, I thought, sighing softly. It was clear the responsibilities of leadership weighed heavily on him, yet what could I do? It didn't mean I couldn't feel the pang of loneliness, and uncertainty.I slipped out of bed, my bare feet striking the cold floor. I put a robe around me and padded over to the window. The su
