Blake’s POV

I put my hands on Nora’s shoulders and shoved her hard enough to break the connection, the moment Gwen turned and walked away. Nora staggered backward, her eyes flying open in surprise and confusion. She stared at me with murmured shock. "What's wrong, Alpha Blake?" she said, her voice shaking.

I stepped back, literally running a hand through my hair, my face a picture of frustration and internal conflict. "Nora, this just doesn't feel right," I told her, and my voice was taut. "I've got to understand what's really going on here."

Nora's eyes flickered in an effort to understand my sudden change in mood. "Alpha Blake, I told you the truth. Lady Gwen is the one who's mistaken. You have to believe me." Her voice came out begging like she was desperate to take back the trust she felt slipping away.
