Chapter 41

Kamara's POV It's been three days in the hospital, and Nana has yet to wake up. I've been getting better, and it seems like I could return soon, except for the wound I got. It made me wonder if this was the shit they went through in the mafia underworld. Who would be so crazy enough to work in this kind of line? It wasn't like I cared or anything. Standing from my hospital bed, I headed out of my room, heading towards Nana's. Chantelle had left to get me some things to eat due to my cravings for something sweet. Of course, Diego doesn't know about it. I was free from the personal nurse due to being in the hospital, which meant I could sneak and eat up anything I wanted. I was about to enter Nana's room when the door was opened, but I paused when I heard Fernando's voice. He was talking to someone, and it couldn't be anyone aside from Diego, obviously. “You have to calm down, Diego. Nana would be alright, and you don't need to go on a rampage due to all of this.” Fernando said cal

Chapter 42

Diego's POV I stood at the port, my arms folded across my chest as I leaned against the container begin me. Fernando was standing there with my men and some of the Mancini brothers' men standing on the other side, waiting for whoever it was to come to meet us. We had to settle this amicably first before heading towards the war part, but I didn't care. Since Fernando had made his promise, I had no choice but to stay back and just watch him carry out his promise. After what felt like hours, a helicopter finally landed not far from where we stood, and some of the men rushed over to open the door. And there he was, Drano Mancini. The brother was in charge of seeing everything, while the other brother was just a sex-crazed bastard with a hint of killing maniac disease. He was dressed in a white suit, a smug smile on his face, with the resemblance between him and his brother not going unnoticed. It used to irk me to the core how similar they both were and how cunning they were, but what

Chapter 43

Kamara's POV I was seated next to Nana's bed when I slept off. I didn't know how I did, but by the time I woke up, I saw Nana staring at me with a smile on her face. “Nana,” I mumbled with a slight smile. I hadn't registered what was going on around, and then it finally dawned upon me. “Nana!” I screamed, throwing myself into her embrace. She laughed gently with a slight wince, making me draw back quickly. “I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll get the doctor,” I said hurriedly, dashing out of the room and returning with the doctor and nurses. “Madam Sanchez, do you feel any pain aside from where you've been shot?” The doctor said to her as she was helped up to take her seat. She shook her head negatively. “What about dizziness? Do you feel dizzy or lightheaded?”“No, I don't at all,” Nana replied, her voice breaking a bit, but despite just waking up, I could tell she was the Nana I recognized. “That's great. You should take some rest, and the nurses will watch over you for a few more hours

Chapter 44

Kamara's POV “And he asked me to grab something to eat out with him after Nana leaves the hospital. Can you imagine?” I scoffed, placing everything we've brought down on the counter. Chantelle and I came to the convenience store across from the hospital to get a few things and treats. “Well, why not just grab something to eat with him?” Chantelle asked me, handing over her card to the cashier and it was accompanied by beeping sounds which I focused on instead of answering her questions. “Come on. Why don't you want to have dinner with him? Because he's mafia and you'd get your arm blown off again?” I paused, turning to her with a scoff. “Come on, Chantelle. This is Diego we're talking about. It's only a matter of time before he gets mad again and starts snubbing me around the house. Our relationship is strictly as it is and I want nothing more.” I reminded her, grabbing our bags off the cashier's counter as we headed out of the convenience store. The question I had directed at Die

Chapter 45

Kamara's POV. “Oh, my goodness. You look stunning in that dress. It's like Diego knows you more than anyone.” Nana complimented me as I checked myself in the mirror. The red dress really did look pretty on me. The red was a deep red fitted long gown adorned with thousands of rhinestones. It looked so fancy and it made me wonder if we really were going for something more than a dinner. Despite its look, I wish I had made my own dress. I can’t exactly fit in my own clothes anymore with the growing bump. “Are we going to an event?” I asked Fernando who was seated on one of the sofas in the lounge. “The dress is too fancy and probably expensive also.”“It was handmade for you requested by Don Diego. And no, it's just for dinner. You might come across those he works with so the looks also count.” Fernando replied calmly and I got why. It's probably because we might come across someone he knows and wants me presentable. Of course, it was nothing more. “I'll be back soon, Nana,” I said,

Chapter 46

Kamara's POV “Kamara?!” Ciara, my younger sister called in shock, taking a step back from the man she was with. “What are you doing here, Ciara?” I asked, my voice as hard as steel and I could see the worried look on her face when she saw me. What on earth was she doing here? “Do you know her sweetheart?” The middle-aged man asked Ciara who looked nervous before shaking her head. “She's just an acquaintance.” She laughed nervously, ignoring me like I wasn't there. I was about to take a step towards her to give her a good beating when Diego took my hand, keeping me in place. “It's great to meet you again, Don Diego. I would have never thought you would come today.” “It's a pleasure seeing you too, Melinda,” Diego replied coldly before looking down at the Middle-aged man. “And I see you are still flocking over her, Gideon.”“What can I say? She's my precious bride.” The old man chuckled before walking past us with Ciara in her hand. Melinda? When the fuck did Ciara turn to Melinda.

Chapter 47

Kamara's POV “You do not have the right to speak to me that way,” I yelled at her angrily, swallowing my pain. “And neither do you, sister. You're throwing yourself on a man who would never care about you and let me guess, spreading your legs for him just for connections? I expected better from you, Kamara–” A slap landed across her face, my hands trembling as I glared at her. “Don't you dare speak to me that way? You do not know what I am going through and at least I am not with some man old enough to have you as his child.” “At least I am in love with him. I love Gideon and he has been there for me when everyone in the family has been flocking around you, the child who made everyone proud by getting a scholarship and is now in New York, helping pay father's debts. But you are just with a man, getting money from him.” “Oh, would you shut up Ciara? Love this love that, you are just ruining yourself. Look at him. Look at the man you are his wife. Did Mum agree to this? No. Did dad

Chapter 48

Diego's POV I stood back in the living room as the doctor examined Kamara. When I saw her back at the restaurant, I knew something was wrong but I didn't bother pushing forward into it. If she wanted to fake something then she should fake it.But after I saw her crying in the bathroom, it was more obvious that something was wrong with her, and now pregnancy stress. She was only about nine weeks gone. I have been keeping count. “You've been too strict with her diet. I'm sure you barely let her have whatever she's craving.” Dave, my personal doctor said, turning to look at me after he examined her. “What do you mean by that? She and the baby need to be healthy–”“But she also needs to satisfy her cravings to make her a tad bit happier. Are you ready to hear my prescription or not?” He asked, taking a seat while glancing back at Kamara who just sat there, leaning back into the sofa. “Let's hear it.” “From all I've gotten from her, she has been stressed, has constant headaches, and h

Chapter 49

Diego's POV Her grip on the spoon tightened. She swallowed, setting her spoon down with deliberate slowness. “That won't be necessary,” she said, voice even and calm, though I didn't miss the slight hitch in her breath. I chuckled, but I didn't push. She ate and I cleaned up after her. I watched as she left the kitchen, heading up towards the room and I just remained in the living room, going through a couple of things Fernando had sent to me. As I was lost in work, my thoughts wandered back to what Dave said. Sex. We never agreed on sex but we did agree on whatever to make the baby grow healthy and now sex was included in it. We'd have to erase the no sex rule but do I really want that? I've never for once paid attention to her sexually or even slept in the same room as her even though she stayed in what was meant to be our room ever since those two nights we had spent together to get her pregnant again. It had taken me weeks to get the scene out of my head. Keeping my distance

Chapter 50

Kamara’s POV Diego's lips crashed against mine. The kiss was soft and gentle, for a moment, I melted into it. The kiss felt so different and foreign and I found myself savoring the feeling. But as soon as it hit me that I was kissing him, I jerked back, breaking the contact. My mind was fuzzy as my hand came to touch my lips and I could still feel his on mine. And the soft scent of cigarette and menthol. “What do you think you're doing?” I asked, trying to get mad but I just couldn't bring out the expression I wanted to. Diego looked down at me and when I met his gaze, something in them made me shiver. I felt as if I was standing before a beast who was ready to devour me any second now. I was about to say another word when he pulled me closer by my waist. My eyes widened as his lips crashed against mine again. This time, there was nothing gentle about it. It was raw and demanding. His tongue slid across my bottom lip, trying to gain access to my mouth. I gasped, and his tongue sl
