Diego's POV

I stood at the port, my arms folded across my chest as I leaned against the container begin me. Fernando was standing there with my men and some of the Mancini brothers' men standing on the other side, waiting for whoever it was to come to meet us. We had to settle this amicably first before heading towards the war part, but I didn't care.

Since Fernando had made his promise, I had no choice but to stay back and just watch him carry out his promise.

After what felt like hours, a helicopter finally landed not far from where we stood, and some of the men rushed over to open the door. And there he was, Drano Mancini. The brother was in charge of seeing everything, while the other brother was just a sex-crazed bastard with a hint of killing maniac disease.

He was dressed in a white suit, a smug smile on his face, with the resemblance between him and his brother not going unnoticed. It used to irk me to the core how similar they both were and how cunning they were, but what

Kamara's POV I was seated next to Nana's bed when I slept off. I didn't know how I did, but by the time I woke up, I saw Nana staring at me with a smile on her face. “Nana,” I mumbled with a slight smile. I hadn't registered what was going on around, and then it finally dawned upon me. “Nana!” I screamed, throwing myself into her embrace. She laughed gently with a slight wince, making me draw back quickly. “I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll get the doctor,” I said hurriedly, dashing out of the room and returning with the doctor and nurses. “Madam Sanchez, do you feel any pain aside from where you've been shot?” The doctor said to her as she was helped up to take her seat. She shook her head negatively. “What about dizziness? Do you feel dizzy or lightheaded?”“No, I don't at all,” Nana replied, her voice breaking a bit, but despite just waking up, I could tell she was the Nana I recognized. “That's great. You should take some rest, and the nurses will watch over you for a few more hours

Kamara's POVI stared at the mannequin, dazzled by my piece of art. I can feel it in my heart that I would go far and become a brand name soon. Hyping my works doesn't come in the form of gloating. It's a mere fact without any opposition.“Damn!” My friend Chantelle exclaimed from behind. “you my friend are a genius. How do you do this?” “I don't know, Chan. I just love every bit of creating. Do you think this would fit into the designs I intend to submit for the fashion school?” “All of your designs are remarkable, girl. Whichever one you chose to submit would get you in.” Exhaling loudly, I slumped into the couch next to me. “I don't know if this would work out. I feel so anxious. Now that the day is coming closer, I have practically lost sleep.” My head ached at the mere thought of my hopes shattering. For some unknown reason, I keep getting a bad feeling that something might happen and end my career. All my life, I have dreamt of becoming a household name in the fashion world.

Kamara's POV“One hundred and fifty thousand dollars!” I repeatedMy heart jumped down to the pit of my stomach as I stiffened. Mum's words rang in my ears like the cathedral bell. I don't think I would ever be able to make that in a year. Not when I am just a newbie in the fashion industry. “Say something, Kamara.” Mum whispered, she was crying now. I felt my breath hitch as I gasped for air. I think I was having a panic attack, sweat beads formed on my forehead and my palm shook hard. My legs wobbled and it seemed weightless. I sat my butt down before it gives way to the ground. “Stay calm, baby. Please.” She kept repeating. Burning tears rolled down my face. “This can't be happening, mum. Where are we supposed to go? What's going to happen to me and my siblings? Why do they want to take away our home?” Mum sat next to me, sobbing. “It's the only thing that can stand in as payment. In a week time, we would be homeless.” I shook my head hard, “that can't be. It's so wrong and u

Diego's POVI wanted to burst into a fit of laughter at the information brought to me. Whoever the person is, she does have a lot of guts to require my presence. Curiosity gnawed at me as I wanted to meet with this peculiar person and hear what she had to say. Andrew Hermes has cost me a lot of money. One thing everyone knows is not to play around with my money. I would use whatever means I can muster to get it back. “You don't have to meet with her, boss. We can handle it.” My right-hand man, Aiden said.I shrugged, inhaling deeply from my vape pen and puffing smoke into the air, “no, it's been a while I got to be amused. All you guys do is bring me headaches. I want something refreshing. I hope you remembered to tell her it's by ten?” “Yes, boss. It's past nine now, I am sure she would be here soon, she sounded desperate to get your attention.” A mischievous grin plastered my face. “and I will give it all to her.” “Alright, boss. Please excuse me.” He said leaving. Just when I

Kamara's POV“He is just as the rumors had said. Heartless and inconsiderate. I wish I had a knife. I would have pierced that cold heart of his to shreds.” I whined, pacing the room back and forth. Chantelle sighed tiredly, “you should take a seat at least. Since you returned, you haven't settled. Sit down and let's discuss this. I don't even know who it is you are angry at.” Listening to her advice, I slumped into the couch, feeling the tears swell up in my eyes again. I didn't know things would go this way. I have never felt so humiliated in my life before. It took me a moment for the dire situation we are in to dawn on me. If this cruel man keeps to his word, my entire family would be on the street in the next five days. “What is going on exactly, Kamara? Please talk to me?” I sniffed wiping off the tears, “apparently my father got himself into a gambling mess and ended up owing Diego Sanchez.” She gasped in shock, “please don't tell me it's the same, Diego. The unforgiving ma

Diego's POVBeing a mafia is hard, having to treat people in the most shabby form is harder. But I enjoy it. Mostly because the recipients are deserving of what comes to them. I can't imagine playing nice with someone who thought it's cool to joke with my money. My back ached from beating the shit out of a washed up Atlanta socialite's son who thinks he can walk into my casino and make a mess of it. Pouring myself a glass of whiskey, I downed it in one go, sucking my teeth as it burned my throat. The door opened abruptly and my nemesis, Hernandez, walks in. The only reason I haven't buried him alive yet is because he is the only one I have aside my nana that I trust and probably a couple of men that work for me. The only thing he brings to me is a headache, more because he is my lawyer.“Hello there bestie.” He cooed in his usual annoying way with the gayish attitude he always presents. I huffed tiredly, “the last person I wanted to come in contact with today is you. Why are you her

Kamara's POV I have never felt this suffocated in my entire life. Nothing seems to be working. We have spent four days out of the week. Dad has been discharged from the hospital and only returned to become depressed. It would have been much better if he stayed back. Like a raging bull, I have stormed everywhere that seems like the best option to get the money. We have no family members to run to. Every time I look at my siblings, I try not to imagine the horror they would be subjected to if we end up on the streets. Atlanta isn't a friendly place for the homeless. You would have to be as rugged as it is to cope. Throwing my head to the back, I tapped my feet anxiously on the hard floor. Searching my head for any kind of solution that I can come up with. My younger siblings have gone to stay with Chantelle's mum until I get to sort out whatever this is. I felt mum's shadow over me. “Kamara?” She called out softly. I haven't talked to her and my dad since that day. I don't know wh

Diego's POV “Oh, my goodness, Hernandez. You are unbelievable!” I kissed my teeth, slamming my hand on the table. “One thing I have noticed until now with you is how good you are at running your mouth. Probably because you are a lawyer, it's easy for you to say things you are incapable of.” He bites deep into the apple in his hand, chewing slowly on it like he doesn't give a fuck about whatever it is I am saying. Somebody had better hold me back before I decide to maul him. “Why are you always so impatient? It's been barely two days, and you are already frustrated. I told you to leave it to me, I never said you wouldn't be involved in the active search. Do I look like a matchmaker to you?” I grabbed one of the heavy books on my table and flung it at him. With his usual poise, he dodged it. “I will kill you.” I growled. Hernandez shrugged, “threaten me all you want, you still won't be able to escape going to that club with me tonight. You know it's more important than ever now.

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 41

Kamara's POV It's been three days in the hospital, and Nana has yet to wake up. I've been getting better, and it seems like I could return soon, except for the wound I got. It made me wonder if this was the shit they went through in the mafia underworld. Who would be so crazy enough to work in this kind of line? It wasn't like I cared or anything. Standing from my hospital bed, I headed out of my room, heading towards Nana's. Chantelle had left to get me some things to eat due to my cravings for something sweet. Of course, Diego doesn't know about it. I was free from the personal nurse due to being in the hospital, which meant I could sneak and eat up anything I wanted. I was about to enter Nana's room when the door was opened, but I paused when I heard Fernando's voice. He was talking to someone, and it couldn't be anyone aside from Diego, obviously. “You have to calm down, Diego. Nana would be alright, and you don't need to go on a rampage due to all of this.” Fernando said cal

Kamara's POVI stood there, stunned. For a moment, I didn't know what I would do, and I could see from Diego's eyes that he was in a dilemma also, but I couldn't care one bit. He put me in this mess; he should find a way to fix it. But I couldn't just sit here and wait for him to make a decision. Despite my fear, I headbutted the bastard standing behind me, and that was enough time for him to lose his balance and for me to take the gun from his hand. Pointing the gun towards him, an arm was suddenly wrapped around my waist, yanking me out of the room at full speed. I was still panting, my hands shaking as I grabbed the gun in my hand tightly. I wanted to let go, but I was too shocked to let go. “Damn it, stay close to me next time, or it'll be worse than this.” He said through his heavy breathing as he made his way towards the exit. “Are you blaming me now? Who was the one who forced me into the first aid room when I was obviously okay and didn't need to be tended to?” I hissed as

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 39

Diego's POVI returned to Nana's ward and by the time I got up there, the doctors were out already. “What about her?” I asked, trying to restrain myself. It was all my fault. If I had just stayed back, I wouldn't have gotten Nana involved in all of this. “She is responding to treatments but she's yet to be conscious. I can't guarantee when she would be awake, and her responding to treatments might only be temporary because she sustained a shock during the shot.” The Doctor explained calmly and I wanted to plant my fist right in his face but yeah, what would it even change?Without listening any further, I walked into Nana's hospital room. There were calculated beeping sounds as I stepped in to look at her, different machines connected to get the body to keep her alive. I paused as I looked up at her trembling slightly. “D-don’t tell me you'll also leave me, Nana.” I choked, my body rooted to the spot and unable to move. I thought all this while, I have been able to protect Nana from

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 38

Kamara's POV A dull, throbbing pain at the back of my head was the first thing I registered as I felt my consciousness drift back to me. My limbs felt heavy and it felt difficult to breathe. The last thing I remembered was being in the garden and now… now?My eyes fluttered open, everything dim and almost dark. It took a while before my eyes finally adjusted to the sight around. I couldn't tell where I was but from the fresh scent of alcohol and cigarette, I was tell someone was here not so long ago. I tried to move, but pressure dug into my body making me wince a little. Rope, I was tied to a chair. My breath hitched. Where am I? The last thing I remembered were those voices in the garden telling me their boss would love me. I didn't know who could have done this but my only thought was either it was connected to Diego or something else but there was no way it would be something else because he is the only dangerous thing I am connected to. “You're finally awake.” A deep voice

Mancini Vando’s POV I sat comfortably in the hotel as I stared over at Fernando Hernandez who sat there with a defeated look. Everything was going better than I had planned for. “You aren't here to defend your boss, are you, Fernando?” I asked him, amber swirling the liquid in my glass as I glanced back at him. “We agreed you wouldn't be there either. Neither you nor your brother, but for Don Diego to intentionally plant an explosive device at the port? You have no evidence and so you can't break the truce just because of that.” Fernando hissed, trying hard to keep his anger in check and it felt so satisfying. “Don Diego went against our initial plan, Fernando. We agreed no one would appear there during the exchange and he was there. There's footage of him there and causing the explosion.” I replied, knowing fully well I was playing my card right. Knowing Diego, he would want to barge in here to cause a fight but the only thing keeping him in check was his man here. What a pathetic

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 35

Kamara’s POV“Come on Kamara, how can you decide to go on a shopping spree with Nana and leave me in the dark?” Chantelle whined over the phone as I searched for something to wear in my closet. We haven't gone out for a walk in a while so Nana and I decided to go shopping for the baby beforehand. It's only been two months but it wasn't like I could say no to her when she was so excited. “You're in Chicago for the weekend, Chantelle. When you're done with work, we can always go out anytime.” I rolled my eyes, checking out an outfit in the mirror. “Next time? Do you think Diego will let you out?” She said and I cringed at the mention of his name. I haven't seen him again since three nights ago when we had dinner together and he grumbled all through dinner. I spent hours on those dishes even if they were meant for Nana and not him. “Then we'll just have to sneak out.” I replied, a smile spreading across my face at the idea of sneaking out. The chances would be slim but I want to see t
