11. The Park House

Chapter 11: The Pack House Hannah: "Like I said before, I do not have time to introduce you personally to the pack. It's a good thing Miss Carter is here; she can help you with what you need," Alpha Daniel said. He turned towards Cleo. "You're helping her get situated in one of the rooms in the pack house. A few clothes will be nice as well." And with that, he was off, leaving just me and Cleo in the forest. "That was fast. Normally, it’d take a longer, more boring speech," she pondered for a bit. "Count yourself lucky—you don’t have to go through all that." I didn’t know what to think about it, as this was my first-ever initiation. But I was not expecting the blood part a bit. I wish someone would have told me what to expect, though. "Shall we go over to the pack house now?" she asked. As we were the only ones in the forest circle, there was no point in us being there any longer. I nodded. We both made our way to her car and began our drive back to the pack house. While on the

12. Attack

Chapter 12: Attack Hannah: "Tyrell!" A look of disbelief was written across her face. "What are you doing here?" Arya asked as she shot a suspicious glance between the two of us, her voice reduced to a lower level as she took a step back. Tyrell ignored her question and, with a bit of pressure hanging in the air, repeated, "What are you doing here?" Arya visibly gnashed her teeth under the weight of his words, her eyes shifting between the both of us before she stammered a response. "I... I was only—" she hesitated, struggling to find her footing. "I was only here to greet the new members. To welcome them into our pack, that's all," she declared, taking another step back. "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear what you said earlier," Tyrell said coolly, though irritation, and perhaps a hint of hurt, flickered across his face. "Since you've seen her, you can take your leave." "Yes, Beta," Arya muttered, clearly subdued. I doubted she could say anything else under the palpable tensio

13. Rogues in the Woods

Chapter 13: Rogues In The Woods Hannah: I felt my whole life flash before my eyes. It wasn't a long life, full of pain and suffering. I had always been afraid to die, even though I had no real future prospects left, no one would have really missed me if I did die. Cleo was a bit further away from me, and I couldn't see how she was faring. Then again, I didn’t have time to think about her—I was about to be killed. This wasn't how I imagined my death would come. The wolf on top of me raised its massive head, ready to strike. I couldn’t even scream for my pathetic life, how pitiful. My breathing was ragged, my hair a tangled mess, and tears streamed down my face. The wolf’s head descended rapidly toward mine, and I could do nothing but turn to the side and brace for impact, squeezing my eyes shut. I heard a loud growl, followed by the weight lifting off of me. For a moment, I thought, “Is this what death is like? It’s actually not that bad.” Then I realized I wasn't dead

14. The Silver Book

Chapter 14: The Silver Book Hannah: A WEEK LATER It had been a week since my initiation into the Crows Hill pack, and I had yet to be assigned any chores or duties. It was kind of weird not having anything to do since all my life, all I ever did was work. So, I spent my days roaming the lands, helping out when and where I could. One day, I stumbled upon the pack’s library. It quickly became my sanctuary, it was one of a kind. Back at my old pack, I never had the chance to enjoy a library. I was always too busy with chores or trying to avoid getting beaten or trying to get my wounds cleaned. Now, I had the library to myself. Most of the time, I'd pick a book and take it back to my room, as the library was often crowded. I was lying on my bed, engrossed in another book—Beast of Vengeance. It was an intriguing read, filled with twists and turns. The story centered on a man consumed by the rage of revenge after losing everything. As he gave in to the darkness, it was clear that he h

15. Mini History

Chapter 15: Mini History Hannah: As one of the kitchen heads had commanded, I was on my way to help with cleaning. When I arrived, I received several disapproving stares, as though they didn’t want me there. It’s not like I wanted to be looked at that way, but I had been given a direct order, and I wasn’t about to disobey it. I was wiping down the table with a rag, trying to ignore the whispers and the looks of disdain directed at me. You’d think I’d have gotten used to it after all these years of facing similar treatment, but it always managed to get to me. I tried to work faster, hoping to finish so I could escape the suffocating atmosphere of the room. As I moved to clean the next table, my eyes landed on someone's shoes. When I looked up, the person was staring down at me with an expression of pure disgust. I didn’t recognize her, but she had long brown hair, and I couldn’t understand why she was giving me that look. It’s not like I’d done anything to her. Beside her was a

16. Flickered Attraction

Chapter 16: Flickered Attraction Hannah: We were walking through the forest in silence. I wondered where he was taking me, and so I asked. "Where are you taking me?" I passed the notepad to him. It was really frustrating, using a notepad to communicate. I do try on my own to speak every chance I get, but I would only leave my mouth ajar. No words would come out—not even an audible sound, just hoarse noise and emptiness. He ignored me, handing my notepad back. We continued to walk in silence as I let my mind drift off. I thought of why Tyrell was so mean to me when I first got here, why he would go to lengths to kill me or get me out, to the point of threatening me with wolfsbane. I didn’t think this far—he had lost a lot. I scribbled on my notepad before handing it to him once more. "I’m sorry about your parents and your pack," I apologized. Not that it was any of my fault, but I felt remorseful. I went through the same thing. His parents died. My parents were never there for m

17. Luna Freya

Chapter 17: Luna Freya Hannah: I’ve been a bit happier ever since we got back from training—ever since my time with Tyrell. We talked a little more than we did before, though not too often, as he was still the Beta and had work to do. I had been going to the training grounds whenever I was bored and had nothing else to do. I’d watch them train. Hilda and I talked a bit; she wanted me to join them. I told her I couldn’t, though I didn’t reveal that I couldn’t shift either. I was also glad that she respected my wishes and didn't pry. As I walked through the pack house, there seemed to be a lot of chatter all around. I only caught snippets of the conversations. Apparently, the Luna was returning today—or something like that. I wasn’t doing a very good job of eavesdropping. I kept walking when someone approached me. It was a boy I’d often seen around the Alpha. “The Alpha wants to see you now,” he informed me before walking away. I followed in tow, my notepad still in my slightly sh

18. The Former Luna

Chapter 18: The Former Luna Hannah: For the first time setting eyes on the Luna, I had assumed she would be a lovely person. She looked regal, with her white gown, her hat, her smiles, and all. When Alpha Daniel told her about me being her assistant, she was rather happy until she saw me. Guess what the first question she asked was? I used my phone instead to type, finding it easier than carrying a notepad around. Now that I've been assigned a duty, I won't be as free as I usually was. I was getting ready for the day when Cleo popped by, so I decided to tell her about what happened the previous day. "What?" she asked with interest, feeling so engrossed in my tale. "What's wrong with my hair?" I texted back while nodding my head to confirm. "What? That's a weird question." Cleo was confused, and so was I when Freya asked the question. "Nothing's wrong with your hair; I quite like it," she expressed her opinion on my hair color. I touched my hair a bit, running my fingers throug

19. The Sharp Pain

Chapter 19: The Sharp Pain Hannah: It was the soon-to-be Alpha, Harry. I froze in place; I knew I wasn’t supposed to be there. I wondered what the punishment for trespassing was. He only looked at me with a questioning gaze before he asked, “What are you doing here?” When he asked, I gestured for my phone in my pocket. It was my tool for communication at the moment, and he realized what I was going for. “Oh! Yes, of course, go ahead.” It was like he forgot I couldn’t speak. I reached for my phone from my pocket, opened the notepad on it, and began to type. I would have sent him messages, but I didn’t have his number, and I didn’t think it’d be necessary because none of my chores ever took me around him. “I’m sorry; I know I’m not supposed to be here.” I turned the phone towards him so he could read it. I had an apologetic look. I was scared—not that Harry had ever done anything to make me feel afraid of him, but past experiences had shown me that people in power always tend to

20. Crazy?

Chapter 20: Crazy? Hannah: The pain I felt was sharp and quick; the minute it came, it went. I had told Tyrell not to worry because it wasn't something worth worrying about. The pain had subsided, and now I lay on my bed, clutching my head. I lost track of time while reading one of the books I had gotten from the library as I waited for Cleo. I was always stuck on the same page. My mind wandered off. The pain wasn’t normal; I had also heard a small voice, but I couldn’t be too sure as the pain was awful. This wasn’t the first time I had felt something like this. The portrait I observed earlier today, I had the first one there, although it was a bit minute. Turning the pages of my book every five minutes, my mind drifted to something different with each turn. It was dark out by this time. I had waited for Cleo to show up, but later got a text that she wouldn’t be able to make it. She said that if she were to get off work, it would be too late, and she wanted me to get some sleep
