Chapter Thirty One

Maximo PoVAlthough it’s been hours since they left, Klaus's words echoed in my head like the after-effect of hitting a tower clock. His words drowned out every thought in my mind until I was left with a blank slate that kept replaying those words.“Gosh!” I snapped, crushing the dented iron cup I held in my hand. The same witch that cursed your mother was the same witch that birthed Lisa with magic.Damn that idiot, I sent the cup flying with a sharp toss. It collapsed against the walls of the cave, and the clattering echoed through the cave. The magical connection between Lisa and I explained so many things. It explained the prophecy, and the strange pull between us. Everything I thought was special and intriguing about her was the same very thing I hated the most; Magic. Magic made her special, and magic was the one thing I detested above everything else.“You’re feeling good about yourself, aren’t you?” I angrily stared at the statue of the moon goddess. According to legends, she

Chapter Thirty Two

Lisa PoV“What do you think?” I asked Nessa, but she seemed as confused as I was. We couldn’t figure out the sudden changes in their behaviors. One second, it felt like we were getting along and I was going to get the answers I was seeking, and the next I felt like a prisoner. It all started when Dylan had come to serve my meal two days ago. Prior to that we’d gotten comfortable with each. We were almost friends. Despite his huge frame and badly reset nose that ruined his otherwise handsome face, he was lively and friendly, and we would often talk about different, mindless things. But he was different that day. He was stiff and unsmiling. Even when I tried to tease him, he was unmoving. As though that wasn’t enough, he stood like a sentry guard at the opening of my compartment, blocking any ray of light that managed to filter through the small opening.“You know,” I planted a wide smile on my face, “you’ve really gotten better with your cooking,” I said while I munched on his roaste

Chapter Thirty Three

Axel PoV“I knew you wouldn’t let that puny boy steal you pack,” my wife snickered and wrapped her hands around me, “you’re the Alpha of this pack, and no one can take that from you.”I was not surprised by Ava’s words. I’d known right from the beginning that she only married me because I was the Alpha. She loved the feeling of being Alpha’s wife, more than she loved being my wife. It was an arrangement that I’d already made peace with. Besides, I was always going to be the Alpha. Nothing can change that.“Thanks,” I murmured gently.“You okay?” she asked. She must have sensed that I unsettled, but I had better things to do than talking about my problems. Besides, it’s not like she cared much anyway.“I’m fine,” I replied with a soft, winsome smile. “Good,” she smiled back, “dinner would be ready in a few minutes.”She planted a kiss on my cheeks before she went back inside, while I stayed back on the balcony and watched the sun slowly dip in the horizon. A soft, cooling wind drifted

Chapter Thirty Four

Klaus PoVI woke up with an extremely loud pounding on my head. It seemed as though my head was split into two, starting from the forehead. My vision was blurred as I opened my eyes, and I had to blink several times before it slowly cleared.“Damn!” a painful groan escaped my lips as I tried to sit up. With each movement I made, no matter how small, the pounding in my head got louder, my vision blurred, and my entire body ached so bad that it felt like I’d been run over by a herd of raging bull.My memory was fumbled together and I could barely remember where I was, not to talk about how I got there. Fragments flickered through my mind, but none of it made any sense.“Took you long enough,” a hoarse voice broke through my nostalgic run.I could barely make out the face or even the person. All I saw was a blurry figure bring a bowl towards me.“Here, eat!” he ordered, “it’ll help trigger your healing.”I wanted to tell him that I’m not hungry for food, but hungry for information, that

Chapter Thirty Five

Aurora PoVIt was difficult to sleep when you know your husband in the hands of a conceited, power-hungry mad man that would do almost anything to keep himself in power. This wasn’t the first time Axel’s thirst for power wound hurt my family, but I was determined to make sure it was the last. “I will not let you hurt my family again,” I muttered angrily while I waited for dawn. While I waited to swing into action, my mind swayed over the fight between Klaus and Axel, and I realized I was right. Klaus is much stronger than he thinks he is, perhaps even as strong as Axel, or even stronger. I’d tried to make him realize how strong he is but it was not a thought he was willing to entertain. Klaus has always looked up to Axel, and never believed he could be stronger than his Alpha.“That murderer is not my Alpha,” I yelped, repeating the same words I’d muttered to myself over the years until I came to believe them. If the pack knew what Axel did in order to become the Alpha, they would

Chapter Thirty Six

Axel PoV“You called for me, sir?” Kyle said the moment he came up to where I stood at the edge of the forest.“I did,” I replied, smiling gently, “it’s a good evening for a walk through nature, isn’t it?”“It definitely is, sir,” Kyle replied and followed my lead as we walked down trail in the forest.I had a feeling things were about to get messy with the interrogation. I was about to carry some ambitious decisions in order to eliminate my enemies but I needed to be tact about it. Even as the Alpha, I was still accountable to my pack and can’t make arbitrary decisions, especially in a delicate time like this. Besides, most of the guard are loyal to Klaus since he was their commander for a very long time. If I wanted things to get done properly, I needed to have my own man that I can trust to carry out my orders, someone that has no reason to protect Klaus, someone like Kyle.“You know I’ve always liked you,” I said to Kyle.“I know you do, sir,” he promptly replied.“Drop the sir,”

Chapter Thirty Seven

Maximo PoVJust like I expected, more than half of the wolves I sent out to the forest did not return. The wild bears in this forest had evolved to adapt to their predator. They had grown stronger, bigger, faster, and more brutal. It would take more than an average random wolf to take one of them down, and they roamed about the forest, taking down any weak werewolves that crossed their paths.“I count eight werewolves, master,” Dylan said. It was a big night and I’d exempted him from guarding Lisa, the little witch isn’t definitely going anywhere.“Alpha,” I corrected Dylan, “not master.”“Yes, Alpha,” he immediately corrected himself.“They are more than I expected,” I replied, “I didn’t think this much would make it.”“These fellas are the strongest of the bunch, eh” Dylan replied.“Not yet,” I smirked, “those who survive tonight will be the strongest of the bunch.”“What’s going down tonight, Alpha?” he asked.I turned to face him with a wild smile on my face, “tonight? We begin.”

Chapter Thirty Eight

Lisa PoV“I really think you should make a run for it,” Nessa suggested as soon as I transformed into her and began to run behind Maximo, “I can make a run for it and we’ll be far from here in no time.”I was silent as I considered my options.“You think staying is a good idea?” Nessa sensed my hesitation and tried to convince me otherwise.“I really don’t know,” I sighed, “maybe?”“Then let me tell you what I do know,” Nessa continued, “we’re going to be his prisoner, Lisa. We’re going to be imprisoned by someone that really hates us for reasons we don’t know. Besides, I always feel uneasy around him.”“Me too,” I replied, “he always makes me nervous.”“Isn’t that more proof that we absolutely need to run right now?” Nessa was almost yelling.“Did you forget about his threat?” I asked, “because we both know he was not bluffing, and he’s very capable of fulfilling the threat.”“We’ll take our chances,” she replied, “but I’m very certain anywhere is better than here.”“Nessa,” I shook

Chapter Thirty Nine

As I woke up the next day, the events of the previous day flooded my mind, and the reality of my decision to take time apart from Mason sank in. I felt a mix of emotions—emptiness, uncertainty, and a tinge of regret. The morning felt heavy, and I struggled to find the motivation to start my day. My head was pounding, a reminder of my low tolerance for alcohol, and I longed for a cold shower to ease the ache.Rubbing my forehead, I made my way to the bathroom and turned on the shower. The cool water felt refreshing against my skin, and I let it wash away the lingering traces of last night's restlessness. I couldn't even remember how I managed to get back home after leaving the bar with my brother, but I supposed that was a good thing. After showering, I stepped out and heard my cellphone ringing from the bed. Hurrying to pick it up, I saw that it was Sarah calling. A smile formed on my lips as I answered the call. "Hello, Sarah. Good morning," I greeted her warmly."Good morning, boss,

Chapter Forty

Melina PoVThere’s nothing as frustrating as talking to people who would not listen to whatever you had to say. That was the exact situation I was caught up with the elders of the Tal’al Coven.“They just would not listen,” I fumed as I angrily clipped the flower I was tending to.“Sister Melina,” Ramona chuckled, “the poor flower is not the cause of your problems, don’t vent your frustration on it.”“I’m sorry, sister,” I hastily to apologized to my superior, “I was…distracted.”“I noticed,” her smile slowly faded away, “troubling times often have a way of doing that to us. Why not come by my office after dinner so we can talk about it.”“Thank you, sister,” I bowed gently, “but I wouldn’t want to…”“Cut the crap, Melina,” she laughed, “it’s just a chat between two friends. It’s not like we’re planning a heist.”“Perhaps a heist would be enough to get your self-righteous ass to act,” I laughed with her. I was at ease with Ramona. She was not as uptight at the rest as the superiors.“
