“Really, are you okay, Landry?” I asked, concern etched in my face. I sprang up from my chair and extended my hands to caress his face. He looked pale and bruised, as if he had been in a fight. I turned his face to the left and right, so that I could examine his injuries. I knew too damn well that even if they did something to him, he wouldn’t tell me. He probably believed that I was weak and I couldn’t really do anything about it. But I wasn’t, and I was going to deal with whoever that touched Landry, anytime, any day.“I’m fine, I swear,” he said defensively, as he finally brushed my hands off his face. I looked at him with a smirk, not buying his lie. “You’re fine, really? Then why did you have to push my hands off your face?” I asked, slightly offended. I wondered where our romance had gone. It was actually a very long time since we got together and spent quality time together. I know I told him that I wanted to stop, but deep down inside, I wanted everything to continue. I wanted

Everything sounded so funny to me, just because it was Landry who was saying it. I never saw him as somebody who was very religious, but there was something he said that stuck with me, which was when he mentioned God. My face suddenly turned blue, remembering my past experiences and even the times I had to turn to God for help, but he never really did. Not come to think of it, my life was starting to change, and if it wasn’t God, then I wondered who it was that was so loving, so kind, so merciful to make tables turn in my favor.“Why did I just hear you say God?” I asked, with widened eyes, glaring at him like a cat would glare at you in the middle of the night. “Yes, I said God,” he said, more confidently this time, but he swallowed hard and I noticed he was tapping his feet quickly on the floor and his hands occasionally on the table, indicating that he was sort of nervous, probably because of me, because of the topic we were talking about. But I couldn’t blame him anyways, so I had

Episode 83

“Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this conversation I’ve had with you has impacted my life. It has made me see things from a whole different level and just thank you. I know what to do now,” I said, feeling a surge of gratitude. Landry smiled at me and said, “Well, I wish you all the best with your divorce with your husband. And if you ever need a second husband,” he chuckled and I laughed, “you know you can always come to me.” He said it as a joke, but I could see the sincerity in his eyes. “It’s fine. I will consider coming to you,” I said, playing along. I stood up from the couch in his office and walked towards the door. He followed me and gave me a hug that lasted for what seemed like minutes, but it was just a few seconds. His cologne hung in the air like a pungent smell. It was a very beautiful smell, but very tempting as well. And I didn’t want to be tempted to do anything stupid, so I had to break off the hug and turn around. “Goodbye, Landry. You have other i

Episode 84

“Oh, come on, Jane. You know that I love you. You know that Anna is just my cousin. It’s nothing serious. I thought we already went through this,” he said, trying to inch closer to me so he could touch me and plead with me properly. I rolled my eyes and groaned inwardly. Oh, my goodness, Rick. He must really think that I’m stupid. He must really, really think that I’m so stupid, so dumb, for me to believe that shit. “Stop it, Rick,” I said, pushing him away. He looked like he was lost for words. He couldn’t say anything. He just kept stuttering and making weird sounds with his mouth as he looked around, probably looking for another lie to say. But I didn’t even pay attention to him. I kept sorting out my groceries.“Jane, I promise you, we’re just cousins and nothing more. I’m a changed man. I’m a changed person. I’m trying to do this for you. I engaged you, remember? I’m trying to be a better man for you. Can’t you see that? Why can’t you help me out to be a better man for you every

Episode 85

“Jane, look, I’m really sorry. I don’t know what came over me these days. Honestly, it’s just as though I’m possessed. I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you. You know I love you, Jane. You know I love you so much," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. He reached out to touch my face, but I slapped his hand away. I looked him in the eye with a cold and contemptuous look on my face, because I knew he was a big fat liar.“Look at me, Rick. Do you think I am stupid?” I asked him, raising my voice. “I keep asking you this because you keep saying things that make me think you’re stupid. I told you I know everything. But as it is, honey, your time is up,” I shouted at him, while he kept looking at me with a confused and scared expression.“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jane,” he said, trying to sound innocent. “OK, fine. You don’t know what I’m talking about? All right, here, take this,” I said, handing him a file which he took curiously. He opened the file and brought out t

Episode 86

“Alright then, this is how you want it. I’ll see you in court in June. I hope you saved up a lot of money for a very good lawyer, because I’m going to sue you. And guess what? When I win this case, I will come for you with everything I have, everything in me. I’ll make sure that you are dead.” He said, his voice low and menacing. He glared at me with his cold blue eyes, his jaw clenched.I looked at him incredulously, not believing his audacity. “Really? You want me dead? Well, that’s another threat to my life. You just added to my long list of evidence, babe. Guess what? This conversation is bugged. I have your voice, I have everything.” I said, with a shrug. I tapped my ear, where a tiny microphone was hidden. I saw his face turn pale, his eyes widen in shock.“You did what?” He shouted, his voice cracking. He lunged at me, trying to snatch the microphone from me, but I dodged him and ran to the door. I opened it and saw my lawyer and a policeman waiting outside. They had been liste

So we finally got to sign the contract. It had been a long time coming. “Thank you so much for having me,” I said, shaking Bianca’s hand with a smile. She looked unhappy, but I was over the moon. I had finally signed the contract to be a surrogate for them. I could finally start my life the way I wanted. My husband’s trial was in a few days and I was supposed to appear there as a witness. While doing that, I secured a place for myself and I was currently living in one of my properties. It was so beautiful and so big. I couldn’t believe that I owned a mansion like that, and several others. I was so grateful to my late dad, who had remembered me in his will. It was just me in the mansion. It had several bedrooms, each with a different theme and color. A swimming pool, where I could relax and swim whenever I wanted. Three garages, where I could park my cars and bikes. And multiple jacuzzis, where I could soak and pamper myself. I only had one car, but I was planning to add more to my col

Episode 88

“Oh, no, don’t cry, my sweetheart. Don’t cry, Jane. It’s OK, it’s OK. It’s just your mother. Forgive her, just the way you forgive anybody. Just forgive her and accept her apologies. I promise you, it won’t happen again,” she said softly, trying to soothe my heart and calm me down over the phone. Because I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to see her again. I realized that forgiveness heals and frees me from all this hate, from all this discontent, from all this annoyance that I hated feeling so much. I hated the feeling of hate. I hated the feeling of holding a grudge. I just needed to let it go. And that was what I did.“OK, I’ve heard everything that you have said, OK. And Mama, I know she was just doing what she did to protect me, but at the same time, she hurt me in the process. But it’s all good now. Everything is in the past. And I’m really tired of carrying this grudge in me. So I let it go. Now I will go and see her very soon, when I’m settled in my new house,” I said, and she

Episode 89

“What do you not understand? I want to have Henry’s child. I want to have his child, and no one else’s. Something tells me that we’re meant to be together, and I never ignore my instincts. I always trust them. That’s why I’m chasing this opportunity to be his surrogate with everything I’ve got.” I said over the phone, feeling annoyed by her questions. I knew she had told me earlier that she wasn’t judging me and she trusted my judgment, but she sounded really doubtful at that moment.“Alright, alright, calm down. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. I just want to make sure you’re okay, alright? I’m your big sister, I’m always looking out for you.” She said, trying to soothe me. I smiled, feeling a bit guilty for snapping at her. “And I’m always looking out for you too. You’re my big sister, but you have a lot on your plate. You’re like a superwoman.” I said, laughing. She joined me, and I could hear the joy in her voice. Despite being my elder sister, she had a lot of challenges in

Episode 90

“Actually, I think I need to drink wine, because I just want to calm my nerves, you know. Alcohol helps.” I said, looking at her hopefully. I wanted to start a conversation. I wanted our relationship to grow past this level, but I wasn’t sure she wanted the same. So I was just going with the flow at that point.“Okay, I see. But you know that if you’re going to be a surrogate for us, your love for wine has to be cut short, right? Because my child will not be a child that will come out from the belly of a woman who drinks.” Bianca said, raising her eyebrows. I looked at her, feeling offended. “Oh, my goodness. I can’t believe you’re saying that.” I said to her, and she laughed. “Why can’t you believe I’m saying that?” She asked, sounding amused. “Well, the baby is also coming out from my belly, which also makes it partly my baby. Well, completely my baby by nature, but yours by contract. So I wouldn’t want an unhealthy baby either, okay?” I said, and she nodded. “Fine, I’ll go get you s
