“Oh, no, don’t cry, my sweetheart. Don’t cry, Jane. It’s OK, it’s OK. It’s just your mother. Forgive her, just the way you forgive anybody. Just forgive her and accept her apologies. I promise you, it won’t happen again,” she said softly, trying to soothe my heart and calm me down over the phone. Because I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to see her again. I realized that forgiveness heals and frees me from all this hate, from all this discontent, from all this annoyance that I hated feeling so much. I hated the feeling of hate. I hated the feeling of holding a grudge. I just needed to let it go. And that was what I did.
