Ch. 148 A Gaping Hole

Damien’s POV A soft knock and the smell of wildflowers jolted my wolf and I out of the depressed stupor we’d been in as I sat slumped over the desk in my office with my head in my hands. “Damien? Can we come in?” Kat’s sweet voice floated to me from the doorway where she was timidly peeking her head in. She looked . . . different. I’d always found her beautiful, but today she was radiant, almost glowing with happiness. A surge of jealousy coursed through me at the thought that it was her mates that made her look that way and not me. “Of course. Please come in and have a seat.” I answered begrudgingly. She’d said “we” which could only mean her twin Alphas were with her and they were the last people I wanted to see. I knew she had been in heat so it was no secret what they’d been doing the past three days. It hurt like hell to think about it. It had nearly killed me to watch them carry her away from me and I’d spent the last three days wallowing in self-pity. But being in the sa

Ch. 149 Return to Glass Lake

Kat’s POV The car ride back to Glass Lake was quiet. After the blissful ecstasy of the last three days, it was like an ominous cloud had descended on us brought about by my latest nightmare. When I once again woke up screaming earlier today, I immediately knew something was different. The scenes were all the same, people I loved dying, blood so thick it blanketed every surface, and the terrifying yet beautiful creature I instinctively knew was behind it all. Only one thing set this nightmare apart from the others. Never before had the creature in my dreams communicated with me. But this time he did. Not with spoken words. He never once opened his mouth, but I heard him all the same. As he stared me down with those evil, glowing eyes that haunted me, his voice suddenly entered my head. “I’m coming for you, Celtic Wolf.” He threatened in a deep, rumbling baritone. “Selene dares to oppose us with her “special” wolf but she’ll find out how vain her efforts have been soon enough. I

Ch. 150 Anger and Pain

*Trigger warning! Use of sex for emotional manipulation. Kat’s POV “Careful not to jostle her.” I heard Reegan say in a hushed tone. I could feel Ryan carrying me and the surrounding scents told me we’d returned to Glass Lake. I told myself I should make him put me down and walk into the packhouse on my own two feet as befitted a future Luna but I just couldn’t muster the will. I was much too cozy in my mate’s arms. Besides, after our escapades in the car, we all three reeked of sex and needed a shower before engaging with any pack members. The rest of the night passed in a blur. I vaguely recalled the twins carrying me upstairs, undressing me and holding me in the shower while they washed my hair and body. One of them had dried me off then the other pulled a t-shirt over my head that smelled distinctly of Ryan. I was laid on a soft mattress and remember feeling their warm bodies snuggling up on either side of me, then I was out again. I hadn’t realized how tired I’d been or how

Ch. 151 Naming the Enemy

Kat's POV As usual, there was no need to knock when we arrived at the Elder Council’s little cottage. Elder Alma stood on the front porch with her hands clasped in front of her, as though she’d been patiently waiting for us to arrive for some time. “Ah, you’re finally here!” She exclaimed as we approached. “I know Alphas are easily distracted by their Lunas but you three give new meaning to the word.” The guys just shook their heads and chuckled at her but I could feel my ears burning with embarrassment. “Since you’ve anticipated our visit, I assume you know why we’re here as well.” Ryan stated in his business-like manner. “Of course I do, and I’m just as anxious as you are to identify the threat. But that doesn’t mean we have to bypass all the pleasantries.” She scolded him, then turned to look at me. “First I’d like to hear how your father and his new mate are faring, dear Luna.” Identical gasps were heard on either side of me as my mates took in this new piece of information.

Ch. 152 Can We Talk?

Reegan’s POV The mood was somber as we trudged back to our room after our meeting with Alma. To be perfectly honest, I still hadn’t fully wrapped my mind around the reality of it all. I don’t think any of us had. At first, I couldn’t believe she’d suggested we just move on with life as though nothing had changed. As though nothing was coming to destroy our lives, our homes, our mate. That thought alone made me want to hunt this creature down and end him before he could come for her. As long as there was breath in my body, none of them would touch a hair on her head! “Hey,” Kat’s gentle voice called to me, “What’s going on in your head? The emotional roller coaster you’re on is making me dizzy.” “I’m sorry, love. I’m just trying to process it all. On one hand, it seems crazy to just go on like nothing is wrong but the more I think about it, the more it seems to make sense.” I tried to explain. “I understand.” Kat replied, slipping her arms around my waist and snuggling into me. “

Ch. 153 Confrontation

Reegan's POV After our talk, when Kat and I were finally sated and just holding each other close, I could feel her emotions start to churn. I waited patiently, lazily trailing my fingers up and down her arm, knowing she would speak when she was ready. “I want to see her.” She insisted firmly. I didn’t even pretend to misunderstand her. “No!” I answered back, just as determined. “Reegan, I need this. I need her to see that she didn’t win, that she didn’t break me, break us.” She pleaded, earning a groan from me. “She’s not in good shape. You don’t want to see that, trust me.” I tried. “Please, I’m a Celtic Wolf, remember. Selene made me out of stronger stuff than you think.” She put on her best bravado. I wasn’t sure she knew what she was talking about but it was an argument I had no answer for. “Fine, we’ll take you tomorrow.” I offered but she was already up and pulling her jeans back on. “Now!” She demanded. I was momentarily distracted by her fine ass as she bent over to pi

Ch. 154 Proven Wrong

*Warning: This chapter contains mature content of a sexual nature. Reegan’ POV The week since bringing our little mate back home had passed in a blur. Aside from all the last minute ceremony preparations happening from dawn to dusk everyday, there were Alpha duties to manage. It was amazing how much work could pile up in just the few days we were away. My brother and I had always had a close working relationship, each playing to our strengths when it came to deciding who would handle which tasks. Ryan always handled anything requiring diplomacy while I handled the more “hands on” part of the role. But now, with the looming threat to our mate and our pack, we had to divide and conquer on the diplomatic front. It was decided that my twin would stick close to home, smoothing the pack’s ruffled feathers over our recent disappearing act, while I would hold meetings with our allies in hopes of building an army for whatever was to come. I’d just come back from a particularly frustratin

Ch. 155 So Ready

Ryan’s POV Finally, the day of our mating ceremony had arrived. The week had flown by in a blur but this time, all the anxiety of the previous attempt was gone. It was almost like we somehow knew this time nothing would stop us from making Kat our Luna and making our bond official in the eyes of our pack. Despite the larger threat still looming over us, we had faced the more immediate danger to our relationship. Those of our own making. We had earned the right to enjoy all that this day meant for us as mated wolves. The alarm was blaring on the nightstand but my normally cheery mate only grumbled and snuggled in deeper to my chest where her face was currently buried. She was sprawled over top of me with my brother laying heavily on top of her, making it impossible for me to reach the damn thing. Did no one else hear it? Admittedly it was barely the crack of dawn but who could sleep through that racket no matter what time it was. “Shut it off!” my wolf groaned in my head. “But d

Ch. 156 Unwelcome Interruption

Kat’s POV I ran my hands over the deep forest green silk that clung to me like a second skin as I took in my reflection in the full-length mirror. I wasn’t sure who it was staring back but it couldn’t be me. Whoever this woman was, she was confident and sexy. She had curves in all the right places that made her look like she belonged in this dress. I turned to look at the pale skin of my back on display all the way down to where the material hung in waves of satin just below my venus dimples. I felt thoroughly exposed but utterly beautiful at the same time. When choosing a material for my dress, Rachael had insisted this color highlighted my blond curls that now hung loosely over my shoulders and made my cornflower blue eyes shine even brighter. She had been right. A knock on my door told me the woman in question was here to move me along. It was time. I finished clasping the chandelier diamond earrings She had gifted me as I walked to the door. Rachael had worn them at her Luna Cer

Ch. 157 Marked

Kat’s POV For wolves, a mating ceremony was the equivalent of a human wedding. As I stood at the far end of the aisle that would bring me to my mates, my arm linked with my father’s as he waited to walk me to them, that thought really started to sink in. Where humans had the option of divorce, wolves had no such thing. This choice I was making was forever, for all eternity. A mate bond and even physical coupling could be broken, but a mate’s mark was irreversible. I briefly wondered when something I had once found so completely terrifying and unthinkable had become all I ever wanted and more. “You look so beautiful, m’inion alainn.” My father’s adoring gaze and soft words settled my nerves. “Thank you daddy!” I replied, leaning up to kiss his cheek, then rubbing off the trace of lipstick on his cheek with my thumb. “You look incredibly handsome yourself. Aunty Isa is one lucky lady!” His eyes twinkled at the mention of his mate and the way he smiled at me told me it meant a lot
