A soft knock and the smell of wildflowers jolted my wolf and I out of the depressed stupor we’d been in as I sat slumped over the desk in my office with my head in my hands.

“Damien? Can we come in?” Kat’s sweet voice floated to me from the doorway where she was timidly peeking her head in.

She looked . . . different. I’d always found her beautiful, but today she was radiant, almost glowing with happiness. A surge of jealousy coursed through me at the thought that it was her mates that made her look that way and not me.
