61. Departure

...Damian POV..."What?" I remarked, caught off guard. Where was this even coming from? Why does she want to go to Italy?"Why?" I remarked, hoping for some answers."One of the first contracts I ever did was for the Bianchi family, Luca Bianchi to be precise.""What? As in the Luca Bianchi? As in the leader of the Sicilian mafia?"Haley went quiet, looking me in the eyes. She reached her hand up to cup my cheek. Without her saying it, I knew that was exactly who she meant."Where is this even coming from? Why do you want to go to Italy?" I asked."I think Luca might help us." She replied."What? Why would he do that?" I asked."I don't know. Perhaps because he liked me? I honestly don't know. But what other choice do we have? We don't have any solutions. We need to get Maverick back. Please." She pleaded. I could tell that she seemed just as confused about going as I was. But something seemed to be telling her that this was what she needed to do.I wanted to fight with her. Tell her

62. Treading Water

We had been on the plane for a few hours already when I saw Haley bolt upright in her chair to sit next to me."What's going on in that beautiful mind of yours?" I asked, turning to look at her."I was wondering..." Haley began, nibbling on her thumb."Wondering what?" I asked, helping her."D-do you want to see some pictures of Maverick?" She asked, gauging my reactions. My eyes went wide from her question. "Yes. Of course!" I shouted happily.Haley seemed to relax and grabbed her phone from her pocket. She flipped through a few things before handing it to me. I looked in amazement as our beautiful son's face stared back at me. I felt a smile curve at my lips as I began to swipe through pictures of Maverick and Haley. Before I knew it, tears had begun to fall."Is everything ok?" Haley asked, looking at me, concerned."Yes. Everything's perfect. Thank you." I said, pulling her close, wrapping my arms around her, thinking of our perfect family....The flight to Italy was long, and b

63. Don't Push Me

...Haley POV...I was on my last thread. I was already worried sick because of Maverick missing. But this woman was pushing my last straw. I'd never shot someone, but I was willing to start with her. Luca was my last chance of finding my son. But the more she continued to ignore my requests to see him, the more my desire to shoot her became. I knew I needed to get Luca's attention, so I grabbed my gun and aimed it at her head without second-guessing. She pushed my final button when she tried to flirt with Damian. He was mine; how dare she flirt with him directly in front of me. My anger got the best of me, and I fired a warning shot at her. I wasn't even close to hitting her, but she didn't need to know that. I just needed Luca to come. I just hoped he didn't take my entrance wrong. The woman screamed, and to my amazement, Kayden came running in with his gun raised in our direction, searching for the source of the problem. Little did he realize that it was, in fact, me. But his loyal

64. Pleading

...Damian POV...I grew worried for Haley. Luca had asked her to start from the beginning, but little did he realize how traumatic of an experience she'd gone through. She had put up a brave front for so long, that even I had begun to believe that she was ok. That she'd managed to block it out, and not let it get to her. But little did I realize that it was only a coping mechanism, so when she was asked to explain what happened, she was brought back to that fateful night.I felt her convulse in my arms. She was shaking in fear, but it was more than that. Soon she began to sweat as if she had a bad fever. Kayden figured out what was happening right away, which made me wonder if this has happened before? He knew exactly what to do, yelling orders at the rest of us. Luca went to a bar fridge and grabbed some ice, and wrapped it in a towel to place on her head. I laid her on her back on the couch, hoping she would calm down. Her breathing had become ragged, and soon I saw her eyes begin t

65. Hearing Voices

Over the past few days, Luca spent all his time informing us of everything we needed to know about the Cobras. With help from his cousins, we had everything that we would need to know in order to take them down. We knew of their warehouses, informants, and all the places in which Luca felt they could be hiding Maverick. For the first time since all of this happened, I started to gain a sense of possibility. That very soon, I would be meeting my son for the very first time.I couldn't help but wonder though, how was Maverick taken in the first place? I know what Kayden had told us, but something just seemed off. As though there was something I was missing. I didn't understand how someone like Kayden managed to mess up in a way that would lead to Maverick being taken.I knew Haley didn't mess up. It would be virtually impossible for her to do so. Her profile was still hidden because of Evanish. Which meant that even if she stepped directly in front of the Cobras warehouse, they would be

66. Seed of Doubt

Her eyes went wide, but it also seemed as though she was expecting this."If you're thinking him and I.." She began, however, I cut her off with a wave of my hand."No. Well, at least that's not where I was going with that. Whether you have a past with Kayden or not, that's not my business. I'm not allowed to be jealous of you with another guy, simply because I'm the one that put you in that position. If I wasn't such an idiot, we could be married by now." I replied, remembering how I so rudely chucked the wedding ring I had planned on surprising her with at her face as my car sped in the other direction. I sighed, realizing the severity of my mistake.Haley stood up and took the seat next to me. She reached her hand out, and cupped my cheek, turning my head to face her. I knew she wanted to console me, but she didn't even know where to begin. That only made me feel worse. Here I'm the one that did this to us, and yet here she is consoling me. Trying to make me, the idiot, feel better

67. Mission Impossible

...Haley POV...The time had finally come to get Maverick. We had spent the next day going over our plan. Kayden felt the best plan of action was to go after him while they were receiving a shipment. Many of their members would be gone to watch over the docks while we could sneak in without them noticing. After reviewing all their hideouts, Kayden figured that Chase probably had Maverick in his own house. It was a highly guarded location, but we made sure to know every single detail of their hideout. Kayden had me look over the blueprints while he worked on surveillance. Kayden tasked Damian as a hacker. Damian needed to find a way to hack into their security cameras so that we could loop their surveillance cameras from discovering we were there. Now, I was waiting in a nearby car with Damian, as Kayden entered Chase's house. Kayden wanted us here, so there would be a quick escape car to prevent him from getting caught. We knew it would only be a matter of time until Chase figured ou

68. Traitor

...Haley POV...When I woke up I was both groggy and confused. What happened? Where am I? I wondered to myself. I sat up and grabbed my head as the pain began to sear into it. I winced from the severity of the pain. I tried to open my eyes to figure out where I was. I looked around, but nothing seemed familiar. The room was practically empty apart from a bucket in the corner. The walls were made of a mud-like concrete, as the entire room was a neutral brown colour. From the ceiling to the floors. Everything was plain and dull. I closed my eyes trying to focus on how I got here. Fragments of memories began to swim in my mind. The heist. The car. The noise. The gunshots. Damian.Oh, my Gawd. Damian. The memories of Damian lying on the ground motionless woke me up. My head had begun to stop spinning, which is when I remembered that someone had knocked me out. It must've been whoever shot Damian. I feel something hard move in my fist, which is when I realize I still have the seatbelt cu

69. Dream or Nightmare

I woke up after a long nap. That must've been the best sleep I've ever had. I stretched and smiled as I smelt the familiar smell of pancakes and bacon in the air. I got out of bed, and put on one of Damian's shirts, then made my way into the kitchen, to see Damian wearing nothing but a pair of sweatpants as he gracefully flipped pancakes in the pan. He spun around to see me watching him, and gave me his cocky smile. I referred to it as the Damian smile. It was a mix of a wink and a side smile. A look he pulled off all too well. He set down the pan and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around me. I wrapped my arms around him in return and leaned back anticipating my kiss. Damian responded right away, reaching up to hold my face as he deepened our kiss. I felt my panties grow wet from the passionate kiss. I began to get light-headed from the lack of oxygen, and gently pushed him away. Damian ended our kiss, then pulled my head into his chest, as we stood there allowing my lungs to g

70. Wake Up

My head was absolutely spinning. I've never felt this dizzy in my life. I tried to open my eyes, but every time I did, it felt like I was going to throw up. "Haley? Haley. You need to wake up." An urgent voice called to me.I tried to open my eyes once more, only to close them tight immediately as I felt my stomach twist on itself. I felt something cool and metallic come in contact with my hand. "Haley. Please. There's no time. You need to get up." The voice called once more. I felt someone shift me so I was sitting up. I sat hunched over, with my head between my knees as my head continued to spin. I felt like absolute crap. It felt as if I entered a boxing match and had the cookies punched out of me. Whoever was near me got closer and smacked my face on either side in hopes of waking me up. I groaned as I tried to open my eyes. The moment I did, I felt myself heave forward. Whoever was in the room, must've expected it, as it wasn't landing on my lap, but rather inside of a metal
