Chapter Nineteen

In an hour Brooklyn was ready in a sleek navy blue pencil skirt and a soft white matching top. She picked up a matching navy blue blazer to go with it and stared at her reflection in the mirror. With her hair fixed up in a ponytail, she looked just like those glamorous models in the fashion magazines. She walked out of her room and placed the blazer over a chair, walking into the kitchen to serve the breakfast that she had made. It wasn’t anything special, just ham and egg sandwiches and assorted berry salad. She didn’t have much time to prepare anything elaborate as Nikolas had just given her just about an hour to get ready. Nikolas walked into the kitchen and froze seeing her creamy legs exposed from the skirt that hugged her hips so well, making her look curvier, se*ier. He cleared his throat and walked up to Brooklyn, standing close behind her and watching her serve the food onto two

Chapter Twenty

Brooklyn looked at him blankly, not comprehending why he was behaving in such a manner. “No, why should I? I’m just asking whether we're done for the day or not,” she told him. “Are you that eager to get away? Then let me remind you that office timing isn’t over yet. You still have four hours of duty left,” he reminded her as he drove on with a grim expression on his face. Brooklyn nodded and looked away. She wasn’t complaining about duty. It was just that the shoes were hurting her feet. They were brand new and seemed to be a size smaller than the one she regularly wore. Maybe Kathy bought them for her along with the clothes. However, seeing Nikolas’s reaction, she didn’t say a word further and just left the topic at that. He drove up to an upscale restaurant and wine tasting center with a beaut

Chapter Twenty-One

Nikolas saw her sitting in her room with her back towards the door, typing the email on her mobile.  He was about to talk to her when his gaze fell upon her feet. They were red, swollen, and wrapped up in bandages. His eyes widened with concern. What could have happened to her feet? He strode into the room and stood by her bed. Before she could react to his presence he just picked up her foot to inspect.“S-sir, Mr. Ardolf, what are you doing?” She said, looking startled out of her wits. She tried to free her foot from his hold but he didn’t let go. “How did you get injured, Brooklyn?” he asked, his eyes dark with concern. “Oh, it’s nothing. I’ll be fine,” she said, trying to set her foot free.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Brooklyn blinked at him with shock. Did she hear him correctly? “I beg your pardon, sir?” She asked, still unsure whether she heard him correctly or not. Nikolas gave her a look of impatience. He hated repeating himself but it seemed as if Brooklyn was lost and hadn’t heard him at all. “I said that you should call me Nikolas from now on,” he explained, sipping his coffee and watching her broodingly. Ever since she confessed her feelings for him last night, his heart and mind had been at war with one another. He just couldn’t control the inner turmoil going on within him. It made him behave abnormally and thus for the first time in his life, he made coffee for a woman, a species he still hated. But she wasn’t just any woman, she was Brooklyn and she was his.“I’m sorry, sir. I can’t,” said B

Chapter Twenty-Three

“I’ve sent the footage to my men and they’re hunting for these three. We need to nab them as fast as possible to prevent Davis from getting hurt or maybe killed. We’re still at a loss about the motive behind this abduction. Davis led a pretty simple and hard life, always keeping to himself. His track record is good so he shouldn’t be having any enemies,” said the officer. His words got Nikolas thinking. Was Brandon kidnapped by his business rivals for the payment that he was carrying? However, he refrained from informing the officer lest he confiscated the money since it was actually an underhanded deal. “If the men have brought him to Woodburn, they could be knowing the local goons here. The best way to nab them would be to offer a handsome tip to a local goon and convince him to sell us information regarding the kidnappers,” suggested Nikolas.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Nikolas couldn’t concentrate on anything since that encounter at the swimming pool. His body was on fire and he repented not having kissed her. Maybe a kiss could extinguish the flame that's burning deep inside him. He knew that he had unnecessarily attacked her before escaping the house like a coward. Who was he fooling? He didn’t need any seduction, his body was perpetually aroused when she was around. He sighed, closing his laptop. There was no point in attempting to work. After a tour of his distribution center, he conducted a meeting with his marketing team and finally came over to his office to draft an email to Knightsbridge. The deal was through and he needed to fix a meeting with him soon.  It was already 4 o'clock and he knew that had to return back to the villa but the thought of facing Brooklyn made him unnecessarily delay going back. How would he keep himself away from her? Even cold sho

Chapter Twenty-Five

It was already 9 o’clock in the night when they reached Lents, a neighborhood of Portland where Freddie Miller owned a house where they usually stored their illegal drugs. Jeremy had mentioned that he sometimes hid his prisoners here as well. They cautiously approached the two-storied house with a huge unkempt backyard, full of trees and creepers growing wildly that made it look more like a jungle. Without alerting anyone, officer Thompson of the Portland Police Department led his team inside the property. They spread out all over, covering the entire property so that no one could escape. Nikolas stayed back at a distance while they forcefully broke open the front door. A series of gun firing erupted from inside making them take shelter. Suddenly there was chaos everywhere as several policemen at the back door were shot brutally and before they could take any action, the criminals jumped into a car and sped away. A police car trailed it while th

Chapter Twenty-Six

Nikolas sat beside her, staring at her top, still in a dilemma. His fingers caught the hemline of the top to yank it out of her as gently as possible. However, the moment his fingers touched the soft, creamy skin of her abdomen, he felt how cold it was. He wasted no time and took off the soiled and wet top that was clinging to her.His eyes darkened immediately seeing her rounded, creamy brea*ts that he exposed, clad in a delicate off-white lace b*a. ‘Don’t look, Nikolas. You'll be dead taking cold showers all night,’ warned his inner voice. But he would be a dead man if he could stop himself from staring at her beautiful body. All his life he had stayed away from women. Being celibate had never bothered him. He despised the species so much that touching them had never occurred in his head but with Brooklyn’s appearance in his life, everything had turned upside down. He was transfor

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Nikolas couldn’t believe his ears. Did she really ask him to stay just like she had asked her dream man in her sleepy state? He was too confused, not knowing what to make of it anymore. His phone buzzed with an incoming call from officer Warner. He walked into the room, ushering Brooklyn too, and closed the door after them. “Yes, officer Warner, tell me. Any news of Freddie Miller?” he asked with a tense expression on his face. Brooklyn stared at him with fear in her eyes. “Good morning, Mr. Ardolf. We have arrested Freddie Miller and some of his men as they were entering Washington through I-5 N. Three of our officers have been injured in the combat, but nothing serious so far,” he informed, making Brooklyn gasp with horror. “Good job, officer. That's very good

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Brandon sighed. “I'll return sir his money and then we both can start afresh somewhere far away,” said Brandon. Brooklyn didn’t answer, suddenly she felt her heart constricting at the thought of going somewhere far away. She had no idea why the thought caused her so much pain. It felt as if she was leaving someone very dear to her. “What about Freddie Miller’s men? Wouldn’t they harass us?” Asked Brooklyn staring at her brother with scared eyes. “When they realize that we really don’t have any money, they’ll leave us alone. I think the cops have arrested the whole lot of them already,” said Brandon. Brooklyn sighed. It was useless to make Brandon see any sense. He had always been stubborn and would do what he thought was best. &ldquo
