Chapter 111- Elnora

Chapter 111- Elnora POV          “I have never told anyone this story before, but I feel like you should know it before we go any further.” Her sadness radiates off of her like heat off of the sun. I cannot help but to be sad for her at this moment in time, for a reason unbeknownst to me. “You can tell me anything.” Urging her to go on, I take her hand in mine to let her know that I am here for her; no matter what it is, she has to tell me.          “It is about our father.” Shock engulfs me as the words register into my mind. The words our send shivers down my spine. The fact that she lived here in this world for so long with the negativity that the townspeople have shown to her hurts me in ways I never expected it would. “What about him?” I croak out. “It is about the knife that we used today. I would like to tell you the s

Chapter 112- Elnora

Chapter 112- Elnora POV          Sydney is still asleep when we enter her room. “Anything?” Harmony asks as she moves to the side of the bed and begins touching her face to check for fever. “Nothing. Is there anything we need to look for if things are going wrong?” Lawler asks as he looks over Sydney from the foot of her bed. “There is nothing that will go wrong at this point for her. The stage that could have killed her is well passed.” “WHAT!” Talvin jumps out of his chair and moves to Sydney’s side. “What do you mean the stage that could have killed her? You knowingly put her at risk?” Talvin demands answers. I have raised such a brave young man who has turned into such a caring young man. “She knew all of the risks. I left no stone unturned with her, and I even exaggerated some of the details to try and get her insistent nature to waver; it didn’t. S

Chapter 113- Elnora

Chapter 113- Elnora POV          It is a much shorter walk than I had previously anticipated. “So, the barrier is close then?” I ask as I watch Sydney close the gap between us and the shimmering wall before us. “It seems that way, yes. But it is vast.” Harmony states as she moves closer to Sydney. “What is it?” “Fulton asks, looking over their shoulder. “A rat. Harmony spelled it to test the barrier, and by the looks of it, it is working.” I whisper as I look closer at the little monster that is hissing and biting at the air on the other side of the barrier. Sydney tests it by moving up and down the barrier on our side and watching it lunge at her new position every time. “It is working!” Sydney shouts in excitement.          “I do not know how to begin to thank you both for doing such an amazing thing for o

Chapter 114- Lawler

Chapter 114-Lawler POV          Walking into town with Elnora and Leon brings little comfort to the news I have just received. Hildi is family; why would a family member do such a thing? Especially when she speaks to my father, who wants to kill me, of all people. My mind runs rampant as we take our final steps off the path. “Big smiles!” Elnora insists as we make our way to the nearest shop that would carry cameras.          “What do you need me to do?” I hear Leon asking Elnora. “We need to collect some cameras and extra batteries just in case. After that, we will return to find out where they will set out.” “Sounds easy enough.” Leon agrees as we walk. Turning my thoughts further inward, I begin thinking of the list of things I must accomplish.          I need to secur

Chapter 115- Lawler

Chapter 115- Lawler POV          The bar is exactly as I remember it from when I was younger. The dry air and the musk swarming throughout the place sends me into back flashes of a different time of my life. “My King! How can I assist you?” Kenny, the bar owner, asks as he nears me. Elnora has just emerged from behind me, giving Kenny a startle. “My Queen.” Kenny bows down deeply to Elnora in a show of respect. “Good day Kenny. We have some questions for you.” Elnora doesn’t beat around the bush; she goes right in for the kill. “Normally, I would play the pleasantries game with you, but right now, we have bigger fish to fry.” He stands as she speaks. “Anything, what can I help you with?” He questions, looking between the pair of us. “Were you here last night when the order came in that everyone must remain indoors?” Elnora has taken over on asking questi

Chapter 116- Lawler

Chapter 116- Lawler POV.          We have the cameras up and running with Leon's assistance within a few hours and back at Harmony’s house to connect everything. I have just stepped out of the house for some much-needed fresh air and a moment to myself.Just as I get comfortable leaning against the railing, looking out over Harmony’s property, I hear the door creak open and once again close. I sign at the thought of having any form of conversation that questions what we should do next. “How are you holding up?” The voice flutters to my ears, and I immediately smile. “How are you holding up, Talvin?” I turn to face him and notice he is holding a mug out to me. “I figured you could use this. We did a lot today, and I know you will be up well past when we are all in a deep slumber for the night. Growing King and all.” He laughs as he takes a drink of what smells to b

Chapter 117- Lawler

Chapter 117- Lawler POV          Merrick and I have just served everyone pasta and garlic bread and have finally sat down to relax and eat. “Fulton and I are on clean-up duty. You two cooked; we clean.” Talvin announces with a mouth full of bread. “I don’t mind, and I will clean up,” I say as I take a bite of the food we created together. “What did you put in this sauce? It is amazing!” I lean over to Merrick to ask. “Some extra herbs. Nothing fancy.” He shrugs. “What herbs?” Harmony stops eating immediately and looks at Merrick. “The only one with a store label on it. Italian seasoning. It was unopened, so I figured it was ok and wasn’t taking another herb’s place. Is that ok?” “You are a smart young man.” Harmony’s voice is flooded with relief.          “I have man

Chapter 118- Elnora

Chapter 118- Elnora POV          Leaving the comforting silence of our designated bedroom, we make our way back out to the group. “How is everything looking?” I ask as I huddle around the monitors with everyone. “We can see them moving along the barrier, but none have made it across just yet.” Harmony announces. “Any idea how many there are?” I ask. “Feels like a lot,” Sydney reveals from her place on the couch. Her face is ghostly white, and she looks ill. “What is wrong?” I move to her side and place my hand on her forehead to check her temperature. “Can you guys get a fever?” I ask, looking to Lawler for an answer. “Yes. Does she have one?” “It feels like it. Can you grab me a wet rag and trash can in case she gets sick?”          Lawler immediately does as I request, and no one el

Chapter 119- Sydney

Chapter 119- Sydney POV           I can feel it deep within me, and it is a feeling like I have never dreamed of before. Locating it would be easy enough, but I know they would never allow me to leave the house. “Where is it?” Harmony asks as she points to the monitors. “North of the Kings home.” We crowed around the monitors and looked for the camera in that location. “Where?” Elnora asks, looking hard at the screens and seeing nothing. “Hang on a moment while I try and narrow this down.” Closing my eyes, I let my body and mind focus in on the location of the creature. “In town, Hildi’s house.” I can see the creature in my mind. She is standing at the doorway of Hildi’s house. “Got it!” Harmony calls out. As I open my eyes, I can see on the screen exactly what I had just seen within my mind. “What is it doing?” Harmony asks, leaning in farther to the screen. “Is it talking?” Talvin questions. Shock and horror run through

Chapter 120- Lawler

Chapter 120- Lawler POV          Sydney’s conversation is beyond enlightening to me. I now know where the last of my family hold my family and me in her regards. The fact that she wanted to have me killed upset me. Her going after Elnora and my boys is another level of evil that I have never experienced in my life. Never would I have dreamed of something so horrible immerging from such a sweet woman.          “What are you thinking?” Elnora asks me as she closes the door behind Sydney. “I am sure you could guess and know exactly what I am thinking right now. I just do not know how to proceed with such news.” I am honest with her. Maybe she will have some insight into how she thinks I could proceed. “This is something that I would never have dreamed would happen. I was so excited when you introduced me to Hildi. I have only been here a few days
