Chapter 131- Lawler

Chapter 131- Lawler POV           Entering my office, I move to the couches in front of the fireplace and sit. It may be a formal meeting in a way, but it does not deserve me sitting behind a big wooden desk. “What is all of this about?” Elnora demands in a dramatic tone. She knows exactly what this is about and is playing it off as though she doesn’t—giving them the chance to state their case as they see fit. Before I have an opportunity to speak, Talvin begins flooding her with information. “You see, mom, here in the Kingdom, everyone has a job to do. The old King would use the people within the Kingdom to his advantage and do horrible things to them if they did not obey. One of those things was to send them out into dangerous situations that could have killed them.” “That is awful!” Elnora’s hand moves to her mouth in shock. Her wide eyes move to Sydney and then me. “Please tell me you have since changed those evil methods?” He

Chapter 132- Lawler

Chapter 132- Lawler POV“Are you ready to stand up and learn what it is to be a King?” My words linger for a moment as fear and excitement flash behind Talvin’s eyes. “I am too young to learn.” He states with disbelief in his words, and I laugh at his statement. You can never be too young to learn. “There is much to learn about being a king. Would you like to start learning what it takes to be a king? I will happily teach your brothers as well; this way, any one of you could take over when the time comes far from now.” “I would love that.” His exasperated words end the moment he sees Sydney’s face fall. “Sydney, what that means is that you would become Queen someday. If he takes on the role of King, you will become Queen seeing as he is your mark mate. Are you prepared to take on that role?” I ask her. “The people of the Kingdom wouldn’t want me as their Queen.” I watch as her head droop

Chapter 133- Lawler

Chapter 133- Lawler POV          It has been hours since I walked across the room and gave Elnora the attention she so desperately craved. Now, as I look down at her naked sleeping body draped across my torso, I smile. This is life. I think to myself.          A soft knock interrupts my thoughts. “Yes?” I whisper only loud enough that a Vampire can hear me. If they don’t, that means it is one of the boys, and I will have to get up. “Sorry, sir, I wanted to let you know that the creatures are getting nearer.” Sydney’s voice is strained. “Are they at the barrier?” I ask. “No, sir, they are coming from the other side of the mountains. I can feel them moving this way, though. There are roughly 30 of them. What action would you like me to take?”          Thinking only for

Chapter 134- Lawler

Chapter 134- Lawler POV          Leaving Elnora, Talvin, and Sydney in the hallway saddened me. I hate they are down here at all. If the creatures throw something hard enough, they could still get stuck. I do not know what form of strength they genuinely have. “Sir?” Leon asks, standing at my side holding his sword towards the ground. His eyes focused on a distant location. “Steady.” “What are my orders?” He asks again with a shaking voice. “Just be with me. You are my reassurance. If anything goes wrong, get them out of here. Keep my family safe.” “You have my word.” Having orders changes him instantly. He can handle anything as long as he knows his orders.          The creature is right on time. He stands at my kitchen door that I have left ajar. “Hello, King.” His voice makes my stomach turn. “What

Chapter 135- Lawler

Chapter 135- Lawler POV “It will not change our desires, please, allow her to speak.” He insists. His words are kinder as his attention moves over to Sydney. “I did not know of your sophistication, nor did I know about your family and kind. That is due to my own arrogance and inability to locate any information beyond the basic knowledge of or people. I want to apologize profoundly for what I have done in the past.” Her voice came out softer and calmer than I had expected. She is genuinely giving him an apology from deep within. “You were doing as your King had requested. You have not had a good life, young one. I know of your past. The night that the King came to your house and demanded things of your mother, do you remember?” His question catches me off guard, and I look to Sydney. Her eyes are filled with sadness and horror. “Yes.” She breathes sadly.“I asked him to spare you. My wife and I had spo

Chapter 136- Lawler

Chapter 136- Lawler POVThe conversation went well with the others. Just as we did, they had many questions about the truth of the matter. The story's short end is that he took a vow before me and declared me his King. Not only for himself but for all his kind. Something that I read in my father’s book that they do not do, and if they do, they mean it.          We have sent the boys off to toss away everything from the basket Hildi sent and then to bed with strict instructions on what they must accomplish tomorrow. Small tedious tasks that seem important that must be completed while we are gone and will keep them busy. The only problem we have now is the people hiding under Hildi’s shop. “Ok, now that the kids are gone, serious time,” I state. “We have a few people left in town, and they are under Hildi’s shop. I do not feel comfortable leaving to get Sabastian while they are still within

Chapter 137- Lawler

Chapter 137-Lawler POV I recognize the three older women instantly. They were around when I was growing up and left the kingdom well before my grandfather passed away. “How did you find us?” Martha asks in her sweetest voice. “Why are you in my kingdom?” I return the question. “There is no reason we are not to be here,” Megan states with a snarky attitude. “You are not a member of the Kingdom; you are in a hidden area and are here during a breach. Not to mention, you were exiled.” “That ended when the King who exiled us passed away. Now we may come and go as we please.” Becky sneers. “I will make this abundantly clear.” I begin as I step forward. “From this moment on, through all the Kings to come, you are all hereby exiled. You may not come into the Kingdom for any reason. If you have a question for the present King, you may summon him to come into the human world only to spea

Chapter 138- Elnora

Chapter 138- Elnora POV          I could see the drama unfold with the three women that the guys have just pulled out of Hildi’s on the screens. “We need to do something.” Harmony insists without removing her eyes from the screen. “Like what? What can we do?” “People are watching. You are the Queen, do something, anything you can.” Her words cut into me. I am Queen, and I need to do something and quickly. “The speakers in town, how do I access them?” I ask as I stand up and begin looking around. “Here.” She announces as she opens her computer and starts clicking vigorously against the keys. “Talk into that.” She points at a small speaker attached to headphones. “What do I say?” I ask as I nervously pick up the speaker. “Anything to buy them time and for the people to understand what they are saying.” She urges.

Chapter 139- Elnora

Chapter 139- Elnora POV          “Sabastian, I am so sorry.” I begin in a panic as I reply to him. “Please do not be sorry for one moment.” I can feel his happiness for Izzy seeping through our link. “Ok. Well, we are coming for you tomorrow. We need you to be ready.” “Tell him to make sure they are both ready and let him know who is coming,” Lawler instructs me. “Sabastian, Lawler says,” I begin. “I heard him. I do not know how I did, but I did. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is that I was able to hear him just now. Not hearing my best friend’s voice for this long saddened me more than anyone will ever know.” “Tomorrow night, you and I will have a drink. I missed having you around Sabastian.” Lawler takes over the conversation. “I would like that. After I introduce you to Izzy, that is.” “I look forward to meeting her.

Chapter 140- Lawler

Chapter 140- Lawler POV          I lay in bed until I could hear the steadying breathing of Elnora in a deep sleep. After slipping from the bed, I make my way down to my office and open my safe. Inside sits a flowered leather journal, a journal my mother used to write in for me whenever I was having a rough time. When she designed it initially, she told me that it was like a game. “When you need advice from me, and I am unavailable, come and get this book. Think about your problem, flip through the book, and stop randomly on a page. See if that advice will assist in your dilemma.” It has never let me down. The journal stays in my safe and only comes out when I truly need her advice. “Did I do the right thing by not telling Sabastian the plan?” I whisper to the book before flipping through the pages and stopping on one suddenly.I begin reading the passage out loud. “Oh, my dear, sometimes we lo
