Chapter 117- Lawler POV
Merrick and I have just served everyone pasta and garlic bread and have finally sat down to relax and eat. “Fulton and I are on clean-up duty. You two cooked; we clean.” Talvin announces with a mouth full of bread. “I don’t mind, and I will clean up,” I say as I take a bite of the food we created together. “What did you put in this sauce? It is amazing!” I lean over to Merrick to ask. “Some extra herbs. Nothing fancy.” He shrugs. “What herbs?” Harmony stops eating immediately and looks at Merrick. “The only one with a store label on it. Italian seasoning. It was unopened, so I figured it was ok and wasn’t taking another herb’s place. Is that ok?” “You are a smart young man.” Harmony’s voice is flooded with relief.
“I have man
Chapter 118- Elnora POV Leaving the comforting silence of our designated bedroom, we make our way back out to the group. “How is everything looking?” I ask as I huddle around the monitors with everyone. “We can see them moving along the barrier, but none have made it across just yet.” Harmony announces. “Any idea how many there are?” I ask. “Feels like a lot,” Sydney reveals from her place on the couch. Her face is ghostly white, and she looks ill. “What is wrong?” I move to her side and place my hand on her forehead to check her temperature. “Can you guys get a fever?” I ask, looking to Lawler for an answer. “Yes. Does she have one?” “It feels like it. Can you grab me a wet rag and trash can in case she gets sick?” Lawler immediately does as I request, and no one el
Chapter 119- Sydney POV I can feel it deep within me, and it is a feeling like I have never dreamed of before. Locating it would be easy enough, but I know they would never allow me to leave the house. “Where is it?” Harmony asks as she points to the monitors. “North of the Kings home.” We crowed around the monitors and looked for the camera in that location. “Where?” Elnora asks, looking hard at the screens and seeing nothing. “Hang on a moment while I try and narrow this down.” Closing my eyes, I let my body and mind focus in on the location of the creature. “In town, Hildi’s house.” I can see the creature in my mind. She is standing at the doorway of Hildi’s house. “Got it!” Harmony calls out. As I open my eyes, I can see on the screen exactly what I had just seen within my mind. “What is it doing?” Harmony asks, leaning in farther to the screen. “Is it talking?” Talvin questions. Shock and horror run through
Chapter 120- Lawler POV Sydney’s conversation is beyond enlightening to me. I now know where the last of my family hold my family and me in her regards. The fact that she wanted to have me killed upset me. Her going after Elnora and my boys is another level of evil that I have never experienced in my life. Never would I have dreamed of something so horrible immerging from such a sweet woman. “What are you thinking?” Elnora asks me as she closes the door behind Sydney. “I am sure you could guess and know exactly what I am thinking right now. I just do not know how to proceed with such news.” I am honest with her. Maybe she will have some insight into how she thinks I could proceed. “This is something that I would never have dreamed would happen. I was so excited when you introduced me to Hildi. I have only been here a few days
Chapter 121- Lawler POV“I think it would be best if we had a hat.” My words are simple, but Sydney knows I mean business. “Come in and have a seat. What do I need to know?” Sydney is a no-nonsense kind of person, and I hold her in high regard because of such a trait. “Sydney, I gave you the short version earlier.” “That you did.” “I know I can count on you to do whatever it is that is needed.” I begin. “Don’t shoot around the bush or give me the formalities. We both know we are pressed for time, and we both need to get things done. What do you need me to do?” She stands feet away from me with the disposition of a soldier ready for her marching orders. “Please let me know if I overstep by asking too much of you.” “I will.” She instantly agrees. “Tomorrow night, I would like to have you at my side when I speak
Chapter 122- Lawler POV “You do?” Elnora looks at me with newfound hope. “We have some options.” I start. “What are they?” Merrick demands. “First, I can bring you all to a safehouse in the human world until everything gets settled here.” “Pass!” Talvin blurts out. “I will not leave, mom.” His brief reasoning is enough to make them all agree. “I would insist she goes with you. So, it wouldn’t just be the three of you. I know you don’t like that option, so we have option B.” “Let’s hear it.” Fulton sighs. “You boys stay with those who I decide are worthy enough to keep you safe and do not go out alone, ever.” “Like whom? Some vampires we never met?” Merrick is angrier than I have ever seen him. “No, me and Leon.” Sydney is standing in the doorway. “Sorry it was open, an
Chapter 123-Elnora POV “How in the world?” Lawler is in shock at the view he is seeing. “The second you asked the boys if they wanted to stay with us, I linked with Harmony and asked her if she could alter the spell a little bit.” I shrug my shoulders as I walk into the bedroom and sit on the couch. “Harmony has some powerful magic in her.” “I am just happy she was willing to do it for me.” “Why wouldn’t she?” He asks me as he walks around the room. “Triple bunks in a semiprivate room for them. She went all out.” He is impressed and has every right to be. She did a fantastic job giving a small amount of privacy between the boys and our beds. Even if it is only a thin wall, it is a wall, and they do not have to see us cuddling in bed tonight. “This is perfect. We will be
Chapter 124- Elnora POV“Hildi is here?” I repeat the words aloud to determine if I have heard them correctly or not. “Mom, what is going on?” The boys are on full alert as they frantically begin pulling clothing on. “All we know is that Hildi is here. Stay here while we figure it out.” I announce as I make my way to the door. “Mom, clothes!” Fulton calls back to me. Looking down, I find that I am still in my nightdress. “Right. One second Lawler.” I call as I sprint to the bathroom. “You need clothing as well.” I overhear Merrick speaking to Lawler. “I guess I do.” He agrees. “Why do you think she is here?” Talvin asks, and my ears immediately strain to hear any form of words Lawler has to offer in this moment of the situation. “I do not know. My guess is that it is not any good, whatever her reason is. I am planning on findi
Chapter 125- Elnora I am angry—Angier than I have been in a long time. Even Brogan having another family on the side and cheating on me doesn’t come close to how enraged I feel at this moment. “Why would I be ashamed of myself for making sure the witch didn’t kill any of us. I have been watching her since before her mother died, and I will continue to watch her until she dies. Which if she is like her mother, she will not know her limits, and she will pass young.” “Is that a threat?” I stifle my anger and ask as calmly as I can muster. “Not a threat dear, it is the way of life. These types of people do not know their limits, and she will overstep.” The smile that consumes her face is that of contentment and joy—something that should never appear when speaking about the death of another.“Lawler, I need to eat my sugar is c
