Chapter 122- Lawler POV
“You do?” Elnora looks at me with newfound hope. “We have some options.” I start. “What are they?” Merrick demands. “First, I can bring you all to a safehouse in the human world until everything gets settled here.” “Pass!” Talvin blurts out. “I will not leave, mom.” His brief reasoning is enough to make them all agree. “I would insist she goes with you. So, it wouldn’t just be the three of you. I know you don’t like that option, so we have option B.” “Let’s hear it.” Fulton sighs. “You boys stay with those who I decide are worthy enough to keep you safe and do not go out alone, ever.” “Like whom? Some vampires we never met?” Merrick is angrier than I have ever seen him. “No, me and Leon.” Sydney is standing in the doorway. “Sorry it was open, an
Chapter 123-Elnora POV “How in the world?” Lawler is in shock at the view he is seeing. “The second you asked the boys if they wanted to stay with us, I linked with Harmony and asked her if she could alter the spell a little bit.” I shrug my shoulders as I walk into the bedroom and sit on the couch. “Harmony has some powerful magic in her.” “I am just happy she was willing to do it for me.” “Why wouldn’t she?” He asks me as he walks around the room. “Triple bunks in a semiprivate room for them. She went all out.” He is impressed and has every right to be. She did a fantastic job giving a small amount of privacy between the boys and our beds. Even if it is only a thin wall, it is a wall, and they do not have to see us cuddling in bed tonight. “This is perfect. We will be
Chapter 124- Elnora POV“Hildi is here?” I repeat the words aloud to determine if I have heard them correctly or not. “Mom, what is going on?” The boys are on full alert as they frantically begin pulling clothing on. “All we know is that Hildi is here. Stay here while we figure it out.” I announce as I make my way to the door. “Mom, clothes!” Fulton calls back to me. Looking down, I find that I am still in my nightdress. “Right. One second Lawler.” I call as I sprint to the bathroom. “You need clothing as well.” I overhear Merrick speaking to Lawler. “I guess I do.” He agrees. “Why do you think she is here?” Talvin asks, and my ears immediately strain to hear any form of words Lawler has to offer in this moment of the situation. “I do not know. My guess is that it is not any good, whatever her reason is. I am planning on findi
Chapter 125- Elnora I am angry—Angier than I have been in a long time. Even Brogan having another family on the side and cheating on me doesn’t come close to how enraged I feel at this moment. “Why would I be ashamed of myself for making sure the witch didn’t kill any of us. I have been watching her since before her mother died, and I will continue to watch her until she dies. Which if she is like her mother, she will not know her limits, and she will pass young.” “Is that a threat?” I stifle my anger and ask as calmly as I can muster. “Not a threat dear, it is the way of life. These types of people do not know their limits, and she will overstep.” The smile that consumes her face is that of contentment and joy—something that should never appear when speaking about the death of another.“Lawler, I need to eat my sugar is c
Chapter 126- Elnora POV“I need to be wrong on this.” His words try and soothe the fear within me as my attention turns back to Harmony. “I would rather not say.” Her words are nervous. “Ok, how about this then.” I begin, “Think about her passing and answer yes or no. If you want.” “Ok.” “Do you think foul play was involved in her death?” As the words leave my mouth, Lawler nods his approval of my question. “Why are you asking me this?” Her words are soft and filled with pain. “It was a horrible thought. I am sorry I brought it up.” Lawler starts. “I suspected, but who would believe me.” Tears begin streaming down Harmony’s face. “You see, things had been getting hectic, and things were out of sorts at times. We noticed that someone was watching us when we were outside, so we were careful not to do anything they could not see.”
Chapter 127- Lawler POV As the others pack away the monitors and prepare to bring them to the house, I begin packing up the things in our room we will need to bring with us. I am going over strategic strategies in my mind when Sally, a local town vampire, links with me. “Hello, my King, we are at the portal. Could you please open it for us?” Her voice sounds eager as she speaks with me. “This will be a one-way portal, and when you need to come back, you will each need to link with me to get back through. Best of luck.” “What do you mean?” She sounds confused and panicked. “We are on lockdown, and I am lifting the lockdown for you all to leave; when you come back, you will need to link with me in order to return back through the portal. It works differently when you come back. It is as easy as doing what we are doing now.” I smile smugly to myself.&n
Chapter 128 Lawler POV Once they are gone, I make my way into the kitchen and stop in my tracks. “What in the world happened in here?” I ask myself as I look around the room. The trashcan is overflowing with food. “That was me.” Elnora is behind me nearly instantly. “We went through all the food and pulled out everything that has been tampered with.” “All of this?” I ask, pointing to all the perfectly normal-looking food. “Unfortunately, yes. We put a spell on all of us as well that will tell us when food could make us sick. Not only will it tell us if there is poison in it, but also if it has turned sour.” “How is that?” I ask. “Come here. I will show you.” I allow her to lead me over to the trash can by taking her hand. “Smell it.” “Really?&rdqu
Chapter 129- Lawler POV We all but run to the living room to find Harmony. “What is it? What is wrong?” Elnora bursts into questions. “Have a seat.” Harmony is smiling from ear to ear. “What is it?” Elnora bursts out again as soon as she sits. “The barrier.” Her words make me lean closer to her as she begins. “When we linked it to Sydney, we linked it to ourselves as well.” “Wait what?” I interrupt. “Our blood is what is fueling the barrier. We are part barrier now.” Her smile stays on her face.“I don’t understand. What does that have to do with anything?” Elnora asks before I have the chance to. “Those with our blood running through their veins are protected as a person as the barrier protects this town. I added it into the spell without realizing it. Between you thinking of keeping everyone safe, myself pr
Chapter 130- Lawler POV I can feel myself starting to sweat. Why would he have written me a letter and placed it on the floorboards? Did he think I would randomly find it someday? Should I even bother opening it? Questions flutter through my mind. Taking a deep breath, I decide that he will know we have been in here changing his bed and adding things for his new mark mate anyway; why not read the letter he has addressed to me. Hopefully, he will not be mad at me for doing so. Breathing deep, steadying breaths, I open the letter and slide out the single sheet of paper.Dear Lawler, This room has been filled with many memories, including the items we left hidden all these years. The world we live in is no longer safe. I have learned that people within our Kingdom are plotting agains
Hello wonderful readers! It has been a privilege to write for you these past months. Your continued support brought me joy and the strength to bring you this book. This book has allowed me to show my children how determination looks. I am going to tell you a secret that I told my children and my family while writing this book- "I am writing for the one person reading right now. If they read for a day or read all of the chapters, I will finish it for them." This gave me the push I needed to continue. When I felt like I was slowing down or getting tired, I thought of you. Thank you for being there on my feed showing me that you were reading. I needed that support, and you gave it to me even if it were only a few moments. As it has ended I have decided to ask you, my reader, if you would be interested in reading a shorter sequel. You can let me know in a short comment, and I will happily begin working on one for you. Stories are a wonderful way to escape the world a
Chapter 171- Elnora POV Everyone has taken their seats and turned their attention to us. “We have learned within our Kingdom that for every problem we have, there is a silver lining. Once again, our King and Queen prevailed, and with their victory, we gained a new King and Queen in training. A gift to our Kingdom that we all thank you for granting to us.” Sabastian bows to all of us before continuing. “When Lawler began seeing you, Elnora, in the human world during the cover of night, he started changing for the better. He started becoming the King he had always wanted to become. Then when you entered our world and completed your mark, you granted him the strength needed to be the best version of King he could be. A gift he has granted your son and our future King. It is my honor to welcome you into our Kingdom not only as our Queen and friend but as the wife of my best friend.” &nbs
Chapter 170- Elnora POV Blow after blow; we watch as the pair of them struggle. "How is he still standing?" I link with Harmony. "Magic, they have witches on his side that are keeping his strength up.” "Can we break it?" I beg. "No, not unless we find the witches and the magic is not coming from here." Harmony sounds defeated. "I cannot live on without him.” "You will have to, for your children." Harmony moves to my side and takes my hand as we watch in horror. Lawler is beginning to lose, and I have had enough. How can I stop this? I ask myself. We watch as his father lifts his hand one last time, and as he does, I know this will be the blow that knocks Lawler unconscious. "STOP!" Tavin demands as he walks forward. My attention doesn't leave Lawler and his position, but the command stops the blow. "You are to remove yourself from his bo
Chapter 169- Elnora POV My spell is working. Lawler has a bloody nose as he stands, but nothing more. On the other hand, his father is bleeding profusely and has a broken nose. “What did you do?” He calls out. “I did nothing,” Lawler responds to him. His father struggles to his feet, and when he finally makes it, he throws another punch into Lawler’s stomach. I watch in amazement as Lawler hardly flinches and his father withers on the ground in pain. “Just toss him in the dungeon, and we will deal with him another day.” I request. “Stay back.” Sabastian pulls me from my waist backward towards the beach. I can see what he sees from this position, and people surround us we do not know. I lock eyes with Sabastian, and he nods his head. I look to Talvin and link with him first. “I am calling in back up; tu
Chapter 168- Elnora POV “You look beautiful,” Merrick announces as he enters the room and sees me standing on the dressing platform. “Thank you.” He offers his hand for me to step down after the last adjustment to my dress is made, and I take it. “Really, you are glowing. I am so happy for you.” He states as he walks with me to the door. “Are you sure you boys are ok with me getting married?” I ask him. “Mom, he already adopted us, and we took his last name. We signed off on that paper. Of course, we are ok with you getting married. Finally, we will all have the same last name again. You are the only odd man out.” He pokes fun at me. “I don’t want to upset any of you.” “This has been the best five years anyone could have ever asked for. Trust me, and we are all here for you. If you need me to make a distraction today, just say the word bab
Chapter 167- Elnora POV Vampires can drink a lot before feeling even the slightest buzz from consumption. Today, I am saying prayers to the porcelain gods of Harmony’s guest bathroom, or should I say my room at her house. I feel horrible. My bachelorette party was the best party I have ever been to in my life. Even the creatures that were invited had a blast and drank with us. A soft knock sounds on the bathroom door. “No one is home.” I joke. “I have some tea that will help you feel better,” Sydney calls softly. “Come in.” Granting her access, I wipe my mouth and sit on the floor. “Feeling pretty bad, I see.” “Yeah.” “Harmony said this tea will help you feel better.” “Will it, though?” I ask as I take it from her hands. “She made me some, and I feel completely norma
Chapter 166- Elnora POV Relief. That is the feeling that consumes me when Lawler announces that his father is alive. His face looks horrified and like he is waiting for me to bolt at any moment, but instead, I move to him and sit in his lap. “Oh, Lawler.” I hug him tightly. “I know you are angry.” He begins. “No, I am not. I am relieved more than you will ever know. This is honestly not even close to the things that I was thinking. This is the lesser of the evils that had gone through my mind. I wish you would have told me sooner so I could tell you.” “Tell me what?” “We had your fathers’ blood. We have put a barrier up in our Kingdom, and along with the portals for all the Kingdoms, he cannot get in. There is no way he will ever get you here.” “Spells can be broken.”“They can, but they are pretty good spells. We also have backup p
Chapter 165- Elnora POV Lawler has been distant this week. Not in the mental sense; when he is with me, he is with me entirely. Communication is on point, and he makes sure all of my needs are met, but physically, he is distant. Theo insists that he is working on something, and everything is fine. I know better, though; I can feel it deep down in my soul that something is off. Something has presented itself, and he is trying to handle it without me knowing. I have considered that it was information on Brogan, but Leon comes to me every day after he scouts with any information he has or doesn’t have. Looking out over the ocean from our balcony, I drink my tea in peace. I finally switched from coffee a few years ago when Tiffany insisted I learn the difference in taste and smell in herbs so that I would never fall prey to someone trying to drug me. Over the
Chapter 164- Lawler POV For five years, I have searched for proof that my father was alive or dead, never to find a whisper of the truth. Now I find out that he is alive and coming for me just as I have something important happening in my life. “Do you know when?” I ask as I rub the irritation from my face. “By the next full moon.” He replies. The full moon was the night before last; I have about a month. I begin to calculate what needs to be done before anything happens. “What do you know of the puddle?” I ask standing, producing the blade of grass. “Oh, right. About that.” He stutters. “Touch it.” I insist. “You already know your answer.” He counters. “I need to see for myself.” Holding it closer to him, I watch as he picks it up and peals it apart. Nothing happens; he is the
