Chapter 127- Lawler POV
As the others pack away the monitors and prepare to bring them to the house, I begin packing up the things in our room we will need to bring with us. I am going over strategic strategies in my mind when Sally, a local town vampire, links with me. “Hello, my King, we are at the portal. Could you please open it for us?” Her voice sounds eager as she speaks with me. “This will be a one-way portal, and when you need to come back, you will each need to link with me to get back through. Best of luck.” “What do you mean?” She sounds confused and panicked. “We are on lockdown, and I am lifting the lockdown for you all to leave; when you come back, you will need to link with me in order to return back through the portal. It works differently when you come back. It is as easy as doing what we are doing now.” I smile smugly to myself.

Chapter 128 Lawler POV Once they are gone, I make my way into the kitchen and stop in my tracks. “What in the world happened in here?” I ask myself as I look around the room. The trashcan is overflowing with food. “That was me.” Elnora is behind me nearly instantly. “We went through all the food and pulled out everything that has been tampered with.” “All of this?” I ask, pointing to all the perfectly normal-looking food. “Unfortunately, yes. We put a spell on all of us as well that will tell us when food could make us sick. Not only will it tell us if there is poison in it, but also if it has turned sour.” “How is that?” I ask. “Come here. I will show you.” I allow her to lead me over to the trash can by taking her hand. “Smell it.” “Really?&rdqu
Chapter 129- Lawler POV We all but run to the living room to find Harmony. “What is it? What is wrong?” Elnora bursts into questions. “Have a seat.” Harmony is smiling from ear to ear. “What is it?” Elnora bursts out again as soon as she sits. “The barrier.” Her words make me lean closer to her as she begins. “When we linked it to Sydney, we linked it to ourselves as well.” “Wait what?” I interrupt. “Our blood is what is fueling the barrier. We are part barrier now.” Her smile stays on her face.“I don’t understand. What does that have to do with anything?” Elnora asks before I have the chance to. “Those with our blood running through their veins are protected as a person as the barrier protects this town. I added it into the spell without realizing it. Between you thinking of keeping everyone safe, myself pr
Chapter 130- Lawler POV I can feel myself starting to sweat. Why would he have written me a letter and placed it on the floorboards? Did he think I would randomly find it someday? Should I even bother opening it? Questions flutter through my mind. Taking a deep breath, I decide that he will know we have been in here changing his bed and adding things for his new mark mate anyway; why not read the letter he has addressed to me. Hopefully, he will not be mad at me for doing so. Breathing deep, steadying breaths, I open the letter and slide out the single sheet of paper.Dear Lawler, This room has been filled with many memories, including the items we left hidden all these years. The world we live in is no longer safe. I have learned that people within our Kingdom are plotting agains
Chapter 131- Lawler POV Entering my office, I move to the couches in front of the fireplace and sit. It may be a formal meeting in a way, but it does not deserve me sitting behind a big wooden desk. “What is all of this about?” Elnora demands in a dramatic tone. She knows exactly what this is about and is playing it off as though she doesn’t—giving them the chance to state their case as they see fit. Before I have an opportunity to speak, Talvin begins flooding her with information. “You see, mom, here in the Kingdom, everyone has a job to do. The old King would use the people within the Kingdom to his advantage and do horrible things to them if they did not obey. One of those things was to send them out into dangerous situations that could have killed them.” “That is awful!” Elnora’s hand moves to her mouth in shock. Her wide eyes move to Sydney and then me. “Please tell me you have since changed those evil methods?” He
Chapter 132- Lawler POV“Are you ready to stand up and learn what it is to be a King?” My words linger for a moment as fear and excitement flash behind Talvin’s eyes. “I am too young to learn.” He states with disbelief in his words, and I laugh at his statement. You can never be too young to learn. “There is much to learn about being a king. Would you like to start learning what it takes to be a king? I will happily teach your brothers as well; this way, any one of you could take over when the time comes far from now.” “I would love that.” His exasperated words end the moment he sees Sydney’s face fall. “Sydney, what that means is that you would become Queen someday. If he takes on the role of King, you will become Queen seeing as he is your mark mate. Are you prepared to take on that role?” I ask her. “The people of the Kingdom wouldn’t want me as their Queen.” I watch as her head droop
Chapter 133- Lawler POV It has been hours since I walked across the room and gave Elnora the attention she so desperately craved. Now, as I look down at her naked sleeping body draped across my torso, I smile. This is life. I think to myself. A soft knock interrupts my thoughts. “Yes?” I whisper only loud enough that a Vampire can hear me. If they don’t, that means it is one of the boys, and I will have to get up. “Sorry, sir, I wanted to let you know that the creatures are getting nearer.” Sydney’s voice is strained. “Are they at the barrier?” I ask. “No, sir, they are coming from the other side of the mountains. I can feel them moving this way, though. There are roughly 30 of them. What action would you like me to take?” Thinking only for
Chapter 134- Lawler POV Leaving Elnora, Talvin, and Sydney in the hallway saddened me. I hate they are down here at all. If the creatures throw something hard enough, they could still get stuck. I do not know what form of strength they genuinely have. “Sir?” Leon asks, standing at my side holding his sword towards the ground. His eyes focused on a distant location. “Steady.” “What are my orders?” He asks again with a shaking voice. “Just be with me. You are my reassurance. If anything goes wrong, get them out of here. Keep my family safe.” “You have my word.” Having orders changes him instantly. He can handle anything as long as he knows his orders. The creature is right on time. He stands at my kitchen door that I have left ajar. “Hello, King.” His voice makes my stomach turn. “What
Chapter 135- Lawler POV“It will not change our desires, please, allow her to speak.” He insists. His words are kinder as his attention moves over to Sydney. “I did not know of your sophistication, nor did I know about your family and kind. That is due to my own arrogance and inability to locate any information beyond the basic knowledge of or people. I want to apologize profoundly for what I have done in the past.” Her voice came out softer and calmer than I had expected. She is genuinely giving him an apology from deep within. “You were doing as your King had requested. You have not had a good life, young one. I know of your past. The night that the King came to your house and demanded things of your mother, do you remember?” His question catches me off guard, and I look to Sydney. Her eyes are filled with sadness and horror. “Yes.” She breathes sadly.“I asked him to spare you. My wife and I had spo
