Chapter 7

As the three of them kept on blabbering endlessly, I quietly backed up and saved the audio I had recorded of them.

In the days that followed, an endless amount of people came to pay their respects at the wake, and there was no chance for someone else to swap in to take Joey’s place. In the end, he could do nothing but lie in the coffin and hold on for dear life.

His condition worsened by the day, and by the time the three-day wake period had passed, he was basically a one step away from actually dying. My mother-in-law simply couldn’t bear to watch it any longer.

"That’s enough, we’re leaving with him right this second!"

She’d already made preparations to smuggle Joey abroad over the night so that he could finally live his carefree life, but how could I let them have their way?

"Mom, there's no need to be in such a rush." I said, pointing behind her, where an elderly professor wearing a white coat walked in with a group of medical students, bowing and presenting flowers to Joey.
