Chapter 5

A full shiver racked Winnie's frame, and she stared at me fearfully for a moment before she suddenly shrieked at the top of her lungs while holding her head, attracting everyone's attention.

"Quick, sedate her!" She ordered frantically. "She's hallucinating because of the fire, so we can't believe what she says! She's gone mad!"

No one moved in response, only looking at her with puzzled expressions. Clearly, she seemed like the one who'd gone mad instead of me.

Seeing this, Winnie became even more hysterical. "I'm a doctor! Aren't you going to believe me?"

The police looked at each other worriedly, before looking back at me. "Miss Carson, I'm afraid we can't brush aside the possibility that you're mentally compromised, so can you please come back with us to the police station?"

Winnie breathed a sigh of relief at his words, but I continued gripping onto Joey's bed with a death grip. "I'm not going anywhere until the donation center arrives."
