Chapter 3

The moment Clifford heard my name, all color drained from his face. Still, he refused to face the truth. He went through the photo gallery on his phone to show Marie my photo. Unfortunately, he couldn't find a single photo of me.

He ran to the living room, grabbed the photo frame he placed face down, and showed it to Marie. "Is this her?" His voice was shaking but filled with hope, fervently wishing that the deceased patient was just a woman who happened to share the same name.

Marie took a look at my photo before turning away with a scream. "That's her! Why did you show me a photo of the dead, Cliff? It's terrifying!"

"H-How did this happen…" Deflated, Clifford sank onto the couch, his eyes burning with anger.

Marie stared at the photo frame in his hands for a while before connecting the dots. "Wait. Cliff, is she… Is she your wife? Oh well, that works out for us. We can finally be official. You don't even need to worry about divorce and asset division!"
