Amelia’s POV
After leaving the winery, I head over to my shop on the other side of the road. I sent a text to inform Emma of the progress of the contract when I sat down behind the counter.
“Hey, the meeting went okay. But i need an extra hand :-)”
Her text comes in almost immediately, “I’ll be there after work. When’s the event again?”
“In two days.”
After replying to her, I call my suppliers from the farmer’s market for everything I’ll be needing. The items I ordered arrived before Emma, so I started setting them up in my storage. By the time I was done setting up, Emma came in.
“You better get an extra hand soon, or pay me to work for you.” she teased as she walked in to meet me.
“You’ll always be my first employee.” I say, hugging her.
When I pulled out of the hug, I saw Charlie walking over to the shop.
“Hi again, Amelia. Hello miss?” Charlie greeted as she walked in.
“Emma. Emma is just fine.”
“Charlie, this is my best friend, Emma. Em, this is Charlie. She works in the winery across from here, and she got me the contract.” I introduced them.
“Nice to meet you.” they say simultaneously and smile.
“So, I came to apologize if my boss came off as rude. He isn’t like that. I shouldn’t have been talking to you there, we could have had the conversation somewhere off the wine press.” Charlie explained.
“Yea, it’s okay. Hope he wasn’t too mad?”
“I gave him a piece of the sample cake, now he wants more. Your cake is what all the staff at the meeting has been talking about all day.”
“I know right? Ame is that good.” Emma added.
“Well, if your boss wants cake, you can see we’re all out. I was about to prepare for tomorrow and your company’s party before you came. If he can wait till tomorrow, the cake will be on the house.”
“I’m pretty sure he’ll be here himself tomorrow. Anyway, thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow, and Emma can come for the opening party.” Charlie says, and runs off.
“Thank you.” Emma shouts after Charlie.
“Do I sense some chemistry between you two?”
“What chemistry? We just met.” she tries to hide her flushed face.
Topics like this are to be threaded with caution around her, and since I swore off relationships, I shouldn’t impose one on Emma. She can have one whenever she is ready, but for now we have cake batters to make.
I usually mix the batter at night and bake in the morning, so the cake is fresh every morning. After mixing the batter for the next day, we start measuring the ingredients we need for the big party. Then we mix the batter and set it aside, the baking would be easier now that the preparation was done.
“I’ll just need you to help me one last time after tonight.”
“With?”
“The arrangement at the party in two days.”
“After that i can quit?”
“Yes Emma, you can quit.” We both laugh.
By the time we finished, it was late. I offered to drop Emma off, but she insisted she would flag a taxi, since I had a big day tomorrow. We hugged our goodbyes as soon as a taxi stopped for her, and I drove off after they left.
I came back to the shop by 7 the next morning, and started baking the cake for the day. The oven dings 45 minutes later, and I bring out the cake then put another set into the oven. When the first set cooled, I set them up in the counter. My first customer walks in just on time.
“Welcome to Ame’s Chocolate shop, how can I help you?” I ask the customer without looking up.
“Charlie said to come back the next day for the cake, and that’s today.”
I look up and see the customer is the winery’s boss. And he looks less rude than the last time I saw him.
Stan’s POV
I have heard people talk bad about chocolate not living up to the hype, but this one Charlie gave me was good and I could not wait until the opening party to have another bite. I wanted more, and I wanted it now. I pick up my office phone and dial the HR’s office, there’s a response after two rings.
“Charlie, how can I help?”
“Hey Charlie, it’s Stan. Do you have any more of the cake you gave me earlier?”
“It’s all out sir. I can head over to her shop to get some though.”
“Please do, and let me know once you’re back.”
I end the call and wait. My cell phone rings, Gerald. I answer immediately, he must be bored.
“Hey boss. Since technically you’re now my boss.”
“Gerald. Hope the hotel is not so boring? We could go out when I get back.”
“Not really, but I don’t mind going out to get acquainted with the city.”
“I’ll be back in two hours. Be ready by then. There’s a bar I really like 20 minutes away from the hotel.”
“Alright. I’ll leave you to get back to work.”
He ends the call and there’s a knock on my door.
“Please come in.”
“Hi Stan, so she’s all out of cake and won’t have any until tomorrow.”
“Really now?” I try to keep my cool.
“Yes.”
“Can I at least have the shop address to get it on my way to the winery tomorrow?”
“The shop is just across from the winery.”
“I definitely haven’t noticed it. Thank you. You can go now.”
After Charlie left, I let out a frustrated grunt and got back to preparing my speech for the opening party. I really need a secretary or an assistant. When the speech had met my satisfaction, I packed up to leave. When I get to the hotel, Gerald is outside waiting for me, so I pick him up and tell the driver to take us to the bar.
We got back from the bar by 12am, Gerald was having the time of his life with the ladies of New York. I’m still enjoying the fact I can go to a bar and not be recognized. I fell asleep immediately my body touched the bed.
I wake up at exactly 8am, head for the shower and freshen up. I head to Brown with Gerald for breakfast, and after breakfast we head out to the winery. Once we got to the winery, I handed Gerald over to Charlie and headed for the shop across. I get in and hear the calmest voice.
“Welcome to Ame’s Chocolate shop, how can I help you?” She asks without looking at me.
“Charlie said to come back the next day for the cake, and that’s today.” I tell her, and she looks up. She has some dent of flour on her face and apron.
“You must be her boss. I’ll get it for you now.” She said and disappeared to the back.
I took my time to look around the shop, the set up looked thorough. Counter with display of cake and cookies like every cake shop, three tables and chairs positioned smartly for sitting customers, and finally the artistic wallpaper.
“Here you go.” She hands me a bag.
“What’s the bill?”
“It’s on the house. I didn’t know you would skip the meeting yesterday, and I ran out of cake when Charlie stopped by.” She explained.
“Thank you. Your cake is great, and it goes really well with our wine.”
“Thank you.” there’s a small smile on her face.
“Remind me to give you a bottle at the party tomorrow.”
“Alright. Have a nice day.”
“You too.” I tell her, taking in the simple but artistic surroundings for some seconds before walking out.
Stan’s POV I’m in my office going over some documents, when Gerald walks in. “Busy?” He asks. “Not really, just going over some things.” “Charlie was helpful by the way. I like it here already.” “You have to, unless all my efforts to want you here would be in vain.” We both laugh. We went over some plans for the opening party and I was getting hungry, so I asked Gerald to come with me to lunch. We head out, since this is not a typical office with lunch rooms. “When will your car get here?” Gerald asked on our way to the restaurant. “I’m thinking next week. I miss that guy.” The rest of the drive was quiet, we got to the restaurant, ate and headed back to the winery. We stopped for a second and I looked across and noticed that I've never noticed the chocolate shop all the while I've been coming in. I tell the driver to hold on for a bit. “Gerald, have you noticed this shop across?” I ask. “Obviously since it's the only building I see from my office.” “I didn't notice it unti
Amelia’s POV Emma arrives a little after 6pm. I texted her to come dressed for the party, since I now had an employee. When she came, I introduced them and got ready for the party in my kitchen. By the time I came out, Emma and Cara were bonding. That’s how it is with Emma, she’s a free and happy soul, once she’s invited she lights up the whole room. “Ahem. Can we go now?” I ask, startling them but getting their attention. “This dress is beautiful Ame.” Cara said, smiling. “Thank you Cara. you can lock up once it’s 7 and please be here on time tomorrow, okay?” “Yes ma’am.” she replied, taking the stance of a military officer. We all laugh. We leave the shop, but the road is quite busy with cars and people making their way to Hughs Wine for the party. We go in and immediately see Charlie. “The chocolate princess and her best friend. Welcome.” She said, and kissed our cheeks. “Thank you Charlie, you look good.” Emma responds. I should leave them to talk, “I'll go grab a drink. A
Stan’s POV We got to my room before I found out her name. Lina. I probably won’t remember it in the morning, but I need to know it now so I don’t moan out another person’s name. “Didn’t think you'd approach me tonight.” She started, probably wanting to know more about why I approached her. New York chics definitely like to know their men. “You’re my type.” “I’ll assume your type is slender, brown hair, perky boobs, round ass, kissable lips and fuckable cunt.” “Nailed it. And you my dear Lina, have them all. Couldn’t let those pass me by tonight.” “Do you like to go gentle or rough?” “I can’t promise to be gentle for long Lina.” “Good, I like it rough. I’ll just take a quick shower to get this sweat out and I’ll join you in bed.” “Take your time.” I smile as she walks into the bathroom. I haven’t had any woman over since I moved here, and I’m not trying to start anything serious with any woman, but Lina looks like the kind of woman I can keep around for a while, or it’s just
Amelia’s POVIt was a bright Sunday morning in July, and I made plans to surprise Mike in his apartment which was three streets away from mine. Every summer since we started dating five years ago, was spent travelling, exploring new cities and food, having mindblowing sex and meeting new people to expand mike’s crazy business ideas. This year, one of his ideas kicked off into an actual plan so we could not travel anywhere for summer as he was working. I decided to surprise him by coming to his house Sunday morning to transform it into the city we planned to visit, and store some of their local cuisines which I got from some restaurants downtown in his refrigerator. And they were hard to order from because it was summer and some people apparently love trying new food in summer. His building looked the same, tall, classy and intimidating in the choicest part of the city with Tom, the doorman who has been there for over 10 years and was friendly to everyone going in or coming out of the
Amelia’s POVI tried my best to avoid crying on the ride home. I just looked out of the window and thought about the past five years, how Mike was the first long relationship I had and how all the vacations we took every summer made me love him more. I also wondered if he didn’t want to go on this vacation with me because of Kate or was it Kat? The tears were rushing down now and thankfully the driver was pulling up in front of my small apartment. It was nothing fancy like Mike's, but it was mine and I was going to get on my bed and cry for my life. I got down from the cab and spot my corolla with the stupid photo sticker of me and mike on the boot entrance. I walked to the car and tore the sticker out and cussed at everything I could think of. Stan’s POV I wake up with a pounding feeling in my head, which I blame on the many tequila shots I took last night. And why is Marie or was it Dennise still on my bed? “Hey Stan, last night was fun. We should do it again sometime”, the lady, whose name I don’t remember said and got off the bed into her dress. I’m unsure of what happened last night, so I do not respond. “Call me, okay?”, she said as she walked out of my apartment. After she is gone, I try to recall the events of last night. I remember talking to my dad and him whining about me taking the family business seriously, and I think we ended up fighting. We definitely ended up fighting. After that, I went to the bar to hang and get a drink. As usual, people from the bar recognize me and come to me for all kinds of favors, from jobs to partnership to things I can't even remember. Gerald, my good friend will always say, “these things come with being the heir to a well known and successful winery.” Maybe he is right. Every gi
Stan’s POVGetting to the bar, I'm greeted by two hot chics that take me to the bar stand for drinks. Who am I to decline such a delicious offer? I follow them right in with my hands on both their waists. After getting drinks, they pull me up to the dance floor and we dance till we are tired and I invite them to spend the night over at my apartment. Thankfully, I didn’t have too much to drink, so I tip the bartender and the valet and drive out of the bar’s garage with two hot chics to my apartment which was 10 blocks away. This time I ask for their names and try to remember and not mix them up. It’s Tuesday, the day I go out to the city to look for a space for my pastry shop. I got ready just in time for the realtor I saw online last night to call.“Amelia? Hi, this is Josh Brown. The realtor from last night.” “Oh hi, this is Amelia. Yes.”“Good. I have three spaces to show you today, if you can come to the address I just texted you in fifteen minutes.”“On my way. Thank you.”I end the call and check my text for the address and put it on my map as i go out to my car.“First day of the rest of Amelia 2.0,” I said to the steering wheel as I adjusted my car seat.I text Emma the address for the space and the realtor's address and phone number for cautionary purposes, then hit the road. I get there in ten minutes and Josh is already there waiting.“Nice to meet you Josh, sorry I kept you waiting.”“It’s okay. Amelia’s POVOne month later, the pastry business is up and running. I gave it a homely feel, thanks to Pinterest for the ideas and I took Emma’s advice to put the business on Instagram. Running the business alone has not been easy, and I plan to employ an extra hand once I pay dad back, which is soon. The wine company opposite me is planning their opening party, and I was contracted to handle their dessert by their HR person, Charlie. Charlie is a regular at the store, so she must have convinced them to use my cakes as their dessert. I was invited to the winery to see their budget and make arrangements on where the dessert would be placed. This contract would help boost my social media and on site business, because the winery is a famous one with a large number of followers. Their budget was huge for a 300 person party, but it would help me pay my dad back and have some change to put back in the business, so I took it and tried to hide the joy on my face. I brought some sample cakes
