Alvin nearly choked on his own breath and spluttered, while Alpha Calixto struggled to hide a grin at my candidness.
"Um... okay. So, as per Alpha Calixto's standard requirements, you'll live with him at the Bloody Crescent Pack house and fulfill the duties of Luna for no less than five years. Is that acceptable?" Alvin asked, recovering but still apprehensive.
I nodded demurely.
"You will also be required not to disclose any information regarding this contract or the Alpha's curse to anyone. Violating this condition will result in swift and severe consequences. Understood?"
I nodded, unperturbed. "That's fine by me. However, I do have a few requests of my own."
Alpha Calixto's eyes narrowed slightly as he regarded me. What demands might I place on him? He braced himself for exorbitant requests, maintaining his calm demeanor while he waited for me to continue.
"You can ask," Alvin said, his tone non-committal, gesturing for me to proceed.
I took a deep breath and offered a gentle smile. "These aren't major demands, so don't worry. First, before I return to the pack with you, I'd like the chance to say goodbye to my family. Second, I'd love to continue my work at my former pack's company if it's feasible. Lastly, I'd like to still be able to see my friends."
Maine scoffed internally. 'You should've asked for our traitorous mate's balls on a platter.'
'What's your fixation with his genitals, Maine?'
'Maybe if he'd kept them to himself for one more night, I wouldn't be so salty about it.' Maine's mood was unmistakable, and I suppressed a laugh as I refocused.
Alvin regarded me suspiciously when I spoke again. "I won't ask this time," he said quickly, while Maine smirked at his wariness.
"Clearly too spicy for the men at the Bloody Crescent Pack," she mused as she stretched inwardly, and I rolled my eyes at her.
"Alpha Calixto agrees to your demands. Is there anything else?" Alvin inquired cautiously.
I shook my head.
"Very well. We have some business to attend to in the city, so we can collect you tomorrow night from your parents' pack. Is that agreeable?"
I nodded quietly.
"Excellent. If you'll just sign your name here as an acceptance of the first draft of the contract, we can make any further amendments later with both parties' approval. Understood?"
I took the stylus and carefully signed my name.
"If there's nothing else, Alpha Calixto, Alvin, I'll take my leave now and head home to make the necessary preparations."
"You should call me Adam. Referring to me as Alpha Calixto might arouse suspicion," he advised.
"Very well, Adam. I'll see you tomorrow night," I said with a grin as I stood up and made my way out.
Once I had left, Adam turned to Alvin and smirked.
"You are also required to keep all information regarding this contract and the Alpha's curse strictly confidential. If you reveal it to anyone, the repercussions will be immediate and severe. Is that understood?"
"That's perfectly fine with me. However, I have a few requests of my own," I replied.
Alpha Calixto surveyed me with narrowed eyes, wondering what exactly I might demand of him. He prepared himself for potentially excessive demands, maintaining his calm and collected exterior as he awaited my response patiently.
"You can ask," Alvin stated with a nonchalant tone, signaling me to continue.
I took a deep breath, offering a soft smile to reassure them. "These requests aren't major, so there's no need to worry. First, before I accompany you back to the pack, I would like the chance to say goodbye to my family. Second, I want to continue my work at my former pack's company if that's possible. Third, I would still like to be able to see my friends occasionally."
Maine interjected with a snort, 'You should have asked him for our unfaithful mate's balls on a platter.'
'Why are you so fixated on his genitals, Maine?' I inquired internally.
'Maybe if he'd kept them to himself for just one more night, I wouldn't be so salty,' Maine retorted, her mood unmistakably sharp.
Alvin regarded me suspiciously as I resumed the conversation, "I won't ask this time," he said quickly, as Maine smirked at his discomfort.
"Clearly too spicy for the males at the Bloody Crescent Pack," she added with a lazy stretch, as I internally rolled my eyes at her antics.
"Alpha Calixto agrees to your demands. Is there anything else?" Alvin asked cautiously.
I shook my head in response.
"Very well. We have some business to attend to in the city, so we will collect you tomorrow night from your parents' pack. Does that sound suitable?" He clarified.
I nodded quietly in agreement.
"Excellent, then. If you would kindly sign your name here to accept the initial draft of the contract, any further modifications can be made later with the approval of both parties. Is that clear?"
I reached for the stylus and signed my name, affirming my acceptance.
"If there's nothing else, Alpha Calixto, Alvin, I'll take my leave now and head home to make the necessary arrangements," I concluded.
"You should refer to me as Xavier. Mentioning Alpha Calixto may arouse suspicion," Xavier advised me.
"Very well, Xavier. I'll see you tomorrow night," I grinned as I rose and made my way out.
After I had left, Xavier turned to Alvin with a smirk.
"Are you satisfied now? A contracted mate and Luna for the pack," Xavier announced, reclining into the back of his chair and closing his eyes in apparent satisfaction. Silence greeted his words until a cautious voice broke it.
"Alpha, have you met her before?"
"No."
"It's just that..."
"Spit it out, Alvin," Xavier demanded, his patience wearing thin as a frown creased his brow.
"That woman is Anastasia Vanes, the Alpha King's daughter," Alvin revealed hesitantly.
Xavier's eyes snapped open as he contemplated the ceiling momentarily before leaning forward to meet Alvin's gaze directly.
"Perhaps it would be prudent to gather more information about her—whom she is marrying, where she works, and why she is so eager to escape this wedding," Xavier instructed.
Alvin nodded, quickly scribbling down his Alpha's requests and proceeding to dispatch orders to their intelligence and surveillance team.
"Oh, and Alvin?" Xavier added as he was about to leave.
"Yes, Alpha?" Alvin replied lightly, pausing in his work to meet Xavier's penetrating gaze.
"Do not refer to her as 'that woman' again. From this day forward, she is your Luna. Do not forget it," Xavier growled as he stood to leave.
After my discussion with Alpha Calixto and his Beta, I headed straight for home. I chose to avoid the main streets as much as possible, wary of accidentally encountering anyone along the way.I cursed myself internally as I hurried through the dimly lit alleys. How could I have been so reckless? Not only would I likely become the subject of gossip over the coming weeks, but I had also managed to inadvertently bind myself to one of the most feared and notorious Alphas in our community. That sobering thought was enough to clear my mind almost instantly. As I navigated the expansive grounds and slipped into my home, I closed the side entrance door as quietly as possible, keen not to draw attention to my late arrival.Voices filled with laughter echoed from one of the drawing rooms as I crept by. My face hardened when I recognized the familiar voices of my stepsister and stepmother, along with the occasional comment from my father.A painful twist gripped my heart as the realization sank
"Sister? Have you lost your mind, Father? My mother only had one child," I sneered, casting a disdainful glance at Nerissa and Eve."You know, there's a saying that fits perfectly here... 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' It describes both Nerissa and Eve, wouldn't you agree? Her mother seduced my father and shattered his mate's heart, and now her daughter is aiming for the same. Ironic, isn't it?" I continued heatedly, my face shadowed by contempt.A cold silence fell over the hallway as my father, Nerissa, and Eve stood frozen in shock. For years, I had kept silent, but with my life on the cusp of a major change, there was no need to maintain the pretense any longer. The stunned silence lasted only a few seconds before my father erupted in fury, shouting incoherently as Eve and Nerissa struggled to calm him down. I watched their frantic attempts with an emotionless detachment. It was about time they faced a few hard truths."Anastasia, that's enough! You've gone too far! J
I awoke with a jolt, startled by the relentless vibration of my phone on the bedside table. My heart was pounding wildly, rattled by the sudden disturbance from my sleep. I fumbled around in a daze, trying to locate the annoying device with my blurry vision. Finally, my fingers closed around the familiar surface of my phone, and I hastily checked the caller ID. The name of my cheating ex, Brent, flashed across the screen. Narrowing my eyes, I pressed the reject button, tossing the phone aside and flopping back onto the bed. The display showed 32 missed calls and a stream of messages across SMS and social media from him. I snorted derisively.Turning my head to the side, I scanned my room. A wry smile crept onto my face when my gaze landed on the crumpled wedding dress in the corner. I was supposed to be getting married today... a day I had dreamed of and meticulously planned for years, shattered in mere moments. My phone vibrated noisily in my hand again, displaying yet another call f
"But... but... the alliance..." my father stammered anxiously."There's no reason it can't be secured with Eve taking my place. Brent will never be king, but considering both his and Eve's deceitful nature—as proven by their actions—and his treatment of his fated mate, I doubt the Council of Elders would approve of his ascension to the throne anyway," I smirked, turning to leave."Wait! Anastasia... where are you going?" my father called, genuine concern coloring his voice.I smiled bitterly, turning to face him one last time."I've made other arrangements. They shouldn't impact you much, but I'll be gone for a few years. I may come back to collect my things, or I might send someone in my stead. Either way, take care of yourself, Father. I'll see you when I return... if I return..."With a final sharp glance at the sound of my father's protests and Nerissa's shrill reprimands directed at Eve, I made my way swiftly to my car. Once the door closed behind me, the fierce exterior shattere
I arrived at the café we had chosen before Leah did. I secured a table by the window, ready for some casual people-watching, and ordered a chai tea while I waited. Although the weather hadn't fully shifted into the autumnal season I loved, the rich aroma of the milky chai tea evoked a homey, almost Christmassy sensation. Secretly, I was panicking. I had left my home to move in with a man I knew only by reputation and was about to M him for the next five years. I craved the security that the feeling of home provided, and the memories that the smell of chai tea stirred were the closest I would ever get to feeling my mother's comforting embrace again.I was acutely aware of the glances from other café patrons, which made me slightly uncomfortable. Just then, I spotted Leah jumping out of a taxi through the window, hurrying inside. She stood in the doorway, squinting as her striking golden eyes scanned the faces rapidly until they found mine. Her face broke into a huge grin, and she wave
I chuckled. "Let's eat first, Leah. I'm starving. Let's order, and I'll fill you in on everything."As we ate, I explained how my chance meeting with the notorious alpha came about. I was careful not to mention the curse on him or the unknown threat he faced, but I felt comfortable sharing at least this much with Leah. I intended to take the secret to my grave if needed, rather than betray those I considered family. When we finished our meal, Leah sat back contemplatively, massaging her stomach as she eyed the desserts on display at the counter with greed."You can't possibly have room for more!" I exclaimed incredulously."Is that a challenge?" Leah gasped with mock horror. "Because it sounds very much like a challenge. Very well! I accept," she declared, answering her own question as she stood and hurried over to choose a dessert.I snorted loudly as I rummaged through my bag, trying to find my phone, which was ringing incessantly. I had forgotten to silence the ringer, and once aga
Brent growled quietly, turning his head slowly as he felt the weight of numerous narrowed gazes on him. He took a deep breath, rolling his shoulders to release tension and running a hand through his hair. Though the fury still smoldered in his eyes, he seemed to have his aggression under tighter rein."Listen, about Eve..." he began, his voice strained, but Leah cut him off with a raised hand."I don't care about your excuses, and I'm certain Anastasia doesn't want to hear them either," she snapped."Anastasia, please... just hear me out!" Brent pleaded, twisting slightly to try and catch my eye.'I think we should listen to what he has to say,' Maine suggested thoughtfully.'Seriously? You want to hear him out?' I shot back in disbelief.'Yes. Then I can decide precisely how much pain I want to inflict when I castrate both him and his cowardly wolf,' Maine snarled, baring her fangs.I sighed heavily and stood, placing a calming hand on Leah's shoulder. "It's okay, Leah. Maine wants t
Xavier remained silent for a few moments, regarding me with an unreadable expression. Then, he inclined his head gracefully. "As you wish, princess," he smirked, sharing a glance filled with hidden meaning.I felt my cheeks flush immediately, shifting awkwardly on the spot."Do you two know each other?" Brent asked suspiciously, glaring between us with narrowed eyes. I kept silent, remembering my agreement not to disclose any details about my arrangement with Alpha Calixto to anyone. It was best for him to manage any inquiries, ensuring only the information he wanted shared would be revealed. Not that I minded—the drama and gossip of the tabloids were best avoided, contrary to the belief that all press was good press.Xavier chuckled, taking my hand and pulling me to his side, spinning me slightly. I collided clumsily with his shoulder, and he wrapped his arm around me, holding me snugly.I swallowed nervously as I watched Brent's face darken with rage. He looked ready to commit mur
