Chapter 7 My father's enemy

"But... but... the alliance..." my father stammered anxiously.

"There's no reason it can't be secured with Eve taking my place. Brent will never be king, but considering both his and Eve's deceitful nature—as proven by their actions—and his treatment of his fated mate, I doubt the Council of Elders would approve of his ascension to the throne anyway," I smirked, turning to leave.

"Wait! Anastasia... where are you going?" my father called, genuine concern coloring his voice.

I smiled bitterly, turning to face him one last time.

"I've made other arrangements. They shouldn't impact you much, but I'll be gone for a few years. I may come back to collect my things, or I might send someone in my stead. Either way, take care of yourself, Father. I'll see you when I return... if I return..."
