004.

Dawn’s POV:

Mate.

The word rang over and over in my head, causing a small headache to begin to form at the back of my head. Despite being human, I knew exactly what that meant. I knew that it meant that I was in a way connected to him… or to use their terms, I was fated to him or something.

“This is impossible!” He muttered under his breath, and then glancing at me again, he spat; “I don’t want this!”

My breath hitched in my chest from the blatant rejection but he still didn’t let me go. Instead, his fingers dug deeper into my arms until beads of blood had begun to pool under his nails as he turned his attention to the blonde woman who I had initially thought was the boss.

“Who are these people?” He spat at her, sounding almost disgusted to be in the same space as us. Almost.

The woman regarded us with a frown that I never knew was possible on that pretty face of hers and after beaming a fake smile at us, she rushed out; “they’re humans… laborers. They were part of the people who cleared the farm behind the house.”

And then turning to us, she practically growled; "Why are you still here? Haven’t your mates gone home already?!”

Right then and there, I wished that the ground would open up and swallow me. I felt embarrassed, angry and most of all scared. I wanted to tell her about the money, I wanted to inform her that I came to her because I had been overpaid but before the words could escape my mouth, the Alpha beat me to it. He snapped;

“I want this one arrested. She was disrespectful.”

My mouth fell open.

Shock. That was the only thing I felt at the time. I frowned, wondering if he was talking to me or maybe there was something wrong with him, but as soon as I raised my eyes to meet his intense gray eyes, the words caught in my throat.

“Alpha… Alpha,” the blonde lady called out softly, coming to stand between the so-called Alpha and me but his grip on my arm didn’t lessen, hence, she was unable to come between us, “…she probably didn’t know who you were. Ignore her, she’s an insignificant human.”

I reeled from the insult as tears rushed into my eyes. For the briefest of seconds, I looked at Autumn only to see that she was already hyperventilating. I couldn’t blame her though, and all I could do was to bite my tongue, to stop the insult that was about to leave my lips.

Again, the blondie turned to me. Her eyes were like razors this time when she yelled; “What the Fuck are you still doing here?!”

At the sound of her voice, Autumn ran off. She ran for a few feet before stopping when she realized that I wasn’t following. It wasn’t like I didn’t want to run away too, the problem was that I couldn’t. I couldn’t even move as the Alpha’s hand was still wrapped around my arm.

The blondie noticed this soon after and her gaze dropped to the spot where he held me. She leaned closer to him and sighed. “Baby, let her go,”

“I just said I wouldn’t,” he answered back without even sparing her a glance. “She disrespected me and she stole from us.”

Upon hearing this, my head snapped in his direction. I raised the brown envelope a little above my head and cried; “I didn’t steal, I swear! I only came to inform you that I was overpaid.”

“That’s impossible!” Blondie cried defiantly, “We didn’t overpay anyone!”

In something akin to anger, she snatched the envelope out of my deft fingers, tore it open, and counted the money; gasping when she saw how much was in it.

“Impossible!”

“You see, a thief!” The Alpha snapped.

His callous words probably broke something in me as angry tears welled my eyes. Suddenly, I was no longer afraid, I was no longer frightened to stand up for myself. I shook off his hold on my arm forcefully and with only my rage guiding me, I snarled;

“Don’t you think you’re stupid now to think I stole from you? If I did steal like you’re insisting, will I be here trying to meet with Madame Long blonde here to return some of the money?”

As soon as I said that, the Alpha’s eyes flashed dangerously, and even Madam Blonde took a step back, apprehension evident in her eyes. Everyone around us was frightened… and so was I. It suddenly dawned on me what I had just done, and feeling shameful, I looked away.

“You see, disrespectful!” He growled, looking at the blonde who instantly dropped her head.

“I am sorry,” I whispered.

“No you aren’t,” came the arrogant Alpha’s response, “but you will be, by the time I am done with you. Guards!”

Now, I knew that I was in deep shit. My cries and pleas fell on deaf ears as I pleaded to him for mercy, but instead of listening or doing something… just anything to let me go, he gestured to his guards to take me away. Two of which came forth to loop their arms with mine.

I cried, I thrashed in their arms, seeking for escape but none came. Tears streamed down my face in torrents until all I could see was a blurry image of Autumn as she cried hysterically as well. She said something about going to call my parents but I had been too preoccupied to hear her. Hell, I couldn’t even make out a word of what everybody was saying as all I could hear was the sound of my blood, and my frantic heartbeat in my ears.

She suddenly turned and began to run away, this was after the Alpha said something to her and I frowned.

What was happening?

The blonde woman also walked away from us with her nose hanging defiantly in the air. It wasn’t until both women were gone that he turned to me, and with eyes blazing with a fire that threatened to scorch me, he bellowed;

“Take her away!”

“To the dungeons?” One of the soldiers asked, causing my pulse to race instantly.

The Alpha turned to look at me. His eyes seemed to drill holes into me while he regarded me quietly, and after what felt like an eternity, he finally shook his head.

“No, take her upstairs instead,” He commanded. “Take her to my chambers… there’s something I would like to find out about her.”

After he said those words, he sauntered off, leaving no room for debates. He got into his car and drove through the gates leading into the house without even doing as much as sparing us a glance. And while he left, I watched him. Not because I wanted to but because I was scared. I was scared of what he intended to do to me and worst of all, I was scared of myself.

Because I reacted to him in ways I couldn’t explain.

He was mean, had a gutter attitude, and was so sassy but I wanted him. My body ached to be touched by him, to taste him… to feel him.

However, I was snapped out of my thoughts when a sharp slap to my shoulder jolted me to the present and I nearly cried out in anguish when I realized that I was still being dragged to his dungeons

... And that I had been accused of something I didn’t do.
