Dawn’s POV:
It’s been a few days since my encounter with Zade, the vampire and ever since, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being watched. True to his words, he had helped me look for Logan whom we found at a ditch, crying out his lungs and looking all scared and bloody. Zade says that it was a miracle that other vampires hadn’t reached that ditch first or he would have been steak by the end of the day. Mother, on the other hand, always asked me how I found Logan and how we both made it out alive but I couldn’t tell her the truth. Zade had forced me into promising him to keep my mouth sealed. Damn, I sound like a teenage schoolgirl in love with my constant Zade this, Zade that nowadays. It was only a shame that I couldn’t tell anyone else about him. Pushing thoughts of the striking vampire out of my mind, I stepped into the room with about fifteen people scrambling about looking for a seat. Autumn was right beside me and she seemed like she was just as lost in thought as I was. Just as we joined the crowd, a pretty blonde woman strode out of a room by the corner and as soon as everyone saw her, they went quiet. “Good day to y’all!” She greeted us in a singsong voice and everyone responded in distorted unison. God, even her voice was as beautiful as she was. “…today you’ll all be assigned to work on the Alpha’s farm. We need you to do the jobs quickly and efficiently, and by 5:00pm I’ll be coming to inspect the job as well as bring your refreshments and payments!” She said, causing everyone besides Autumn and I to scream in excitement. Oh, did I mention that humans were seen as worthless in the business sector too and we were only used as slaves or laborers? If I didn’t, then now I have. The woman continued by giving us a few rules which we must follow and after deciding that we were fit for the ‘job’, she asked her bodyguards to load us- as if we were cargo- into a waiting truck. A few minutes later, we arrived at our destination and earlier when we had been told that the farm belonged to a man, their Alpha, I had thought that it was only going to be a few hectares of land, so why the fuck was I seeing something as huge as a continent? Autumn gasped from beside me. Her face flushed and she was panicky as she asked; “how are twenty of us expected to clear this place in only a few hours?” My thoughts mirrored hers but I simply shrugged. It was too late to back out now, especially when we’ve been brought this far. These people were shifters and just as they were known for their vast wealth, they were also known for their extreme temper tantrums and I couldn’t afford to piss them off now. Without another word, we quickly got to work. I took the portion allocated to me and began to work while deep down I hated myself for applying for this job. I hated myself for roping Autumn into it too. This was slavery and right now, I feared that I may not be able to finish my portion. {***} I had barely just finished with my portion when a loud noise sounded in the distance. It sounded like a bell… an alarm or something and if its purpose was to jolt us awake, then it succeeded because then, everyone began to scramble to their feet, whilst packing up their equipment. Autumn and I joined in, and just when we finished with that, the beautiful blonde lady from earlier came into the farm with a few other intimidating looking people strolling behind her. Just as she had said earlier, they came with refreshments which only consisted of water and sausages, and several brown envelopes which they distributed to all of us. As soon as mine was given to me, I dumped the ‘refreshments’ in my pocket and ripped the envelope open. To my surprise it was money, a lot of it! I glanced at Autumn to see that she had mirrored my actions and we both did a small dance of victory, happy that we had made this much from working for a few hours. The woman then gave a small speech, thanking us for being diligent and all that but I knew it was all a sham. Even a blind man could clearly see how condescending she looked at us. But then I didn't care because soon after, we were dismissed! Autumn quickly ran to me, her eyes were as round as saucers and the happiness radiating off her in waves almost had me falling when she screamed; “two hundred?!” My eyes widened. “Two hundred what?” “Two hundred dollars just for working on this small piece of land?!” When she said that, I quickly fished out my envelope. I had been so excited that I didn’t bother to count it. However, my jaw nearly fell to the floor when I counted mine and it was Six hundred dollars! “Did they make a mistake?” I asked Autumn who was too stunned to speak. I thought about asking the others but from the unfriendly looks on their faces, I immediately deduced that I shouldn’t. I turned back to Autumn; “Isn’t this weird? It’s a mistake right?” “Yes, it has to be,” she responded, looking more afraid than I even was. “Should we report it or just leave?” As appealing as the second option sounded, I couldn’t help but ask; “Will they find out later that they made a mistake and come back for me?” Autumn shook her head; “I don’t know but I’m scared. These people are shifters… werewolves. Only God knows what they’ll do to us if they find out we left with way more than they were supposed to pay us.” That was all I needed to hear before I began to stomp toward the large mansion not so far from the farm. Autumn rushed after me and from her sudden mannerisms, I realized that she was scared shitless. I couldn’t blame her though, her parents were killed by these people. We arrived there several minutes later, after almost changing our minds about a gazillion times, and were stopped by the gates by a scary looking soldier. He barked; “what are you humans doing here?!” The belittling tone in his voice had me reeling but before I could comment on that, Autumn raised my hand, the one with the envelope, to his face and said; “We were overpaid.” The soldier’s eyes widened. He was just about to say something when suddenly a car honking behind us had us turning in its direction. I jumped to get out of the way just as an extremely handsome man got out of the car. At first, he had a stoic expression and was about to bark at the soldier but when he saw me, his eyes widened. Just then, a strange but intoxicating smell hit my nostrils. I shifted uncomfortably, causing Autumn to look sharply in my direction. It was unlike anything I’d come across and smelled of mint and lavender… and something else, something that I couldn’t name but was strangely alluring. As if sharing in my discomfort, the ‘man’ pranced at me… almost aggressively, and with his fingers nearly digging into my skin, he sniffed at me, his eyes widening even more when he barely whispered the word; “Mate…” I stilled. Just then, the blonde woman from earlier stepped out of the house. She scanned my face and then looked back at the man holding onto me as if he’d just captured a thief. There was a look of confusion gracing her features before she bowed; “Alpha.” Again, I froze. Not from shock this time but from fear. Now, what I regretted more than applying for this job was bringing myself here. I should’ve gone home with the money… and then maybe all of this wouldn’t be happening.Dawn’s POV:Mate. The word rang over and over in my head, causing a small headache to begin to form at the back of my head. Despite being human, I knew exactly what that meant. I knew that it meant that I was in a way connected to him… or to use their terms, I was fated to him or something.“This is impossible!” He muttered under his breath, and then glancing at me again, he spat; “I don’t want this!”My breath hitched in my chest from the blatant rejection but he still didn’t let me go. Instead, his fingers dug deeper into my arms until beads of blood had begun to pool under his nails as he turned his attention to the blonde woman who I had initially thought was the boss.“Who are these people?” He spat at her, sounding almost disgusted to be in the same space as us. Almost. The woman regarded us with a frown that I never knew was possible on that pretty face of hers and after beaming a fake smile at us, she rushed out; “they’re humans… laborers. They were part of the people who clea
Dawn’s POV:Tears streamed down my face and I winced when I was thrown to the floor like I was nothing but a rag doll. Pain shot up my spine from the impact of my body hitting the marble and I cried out in anguish.I was only distracted for a minute when my view came into focus and I realized that indeed I had been thrown into the lion’s den. Into that beast’s chamber, and there was practically nothing I could do about it. The place was luxurious and beautiful and had me gasping from the sheer beauty of it all. The entire interior decoration had been done in gray and white, from the furniture, the walls, even the curtains and the fluffy rug beside the bed. The only thing of a different color was the golden chandelier hanging high in the ceiling… but it screamed class. I couldn’t comprehend how just one person was able to acquire so much wealth but before I could let my thoughts stray into thinking about that, I remembered my plight. I needed to get out of here and I needed to find a
Dawn's POV "What...is going on?" I asked, as my eyes moved from Alpha Xavier's to Zade's to the stranger's. Zade looked a bit amused to see me there, it was as if he knew that we were still going to meet again after our last encounter. The stranger stood up and started walking towards me, with his eyes not leaving mine. I looked away from him, and stared at Alpha Xavier, waiting for some kind of answer but he just stood there and...watched. Zade did too. "Mate," the stranger said again, but this time, he was barely two feet away from me. He crouched down, and placed two fingers under my chin, raising my head to meet his gaze. "My name is Ryan. What's your name, mate?" He asked. His deep voice rang in my head, and I struggled to form a word. I gulped down, and managed to say my name. He nodded and helped me get up. I didn't know what to do. It was so funny how I went from being a very normal human to having...three mates now? Especially those who'd kill me in a heartbeat.
Alpha Xavier's POV After pacing around for five minutes, I finally stopped to think. With my recent prisoner in a room just a few feet away from me, I just couldn't sleep, even when I wanted to. There was definitely something about her. I have tried ignoring it, but it's still there. By this time tomorrow, the Don, Zade, would have made his decision and she might finally be his. That was the plan, but did I want that? The mere presence of my prisoner annoyed me but still, I wanted it so badly. "Fuck!" I cursed, as I found myself strolling towards the door, going to meet Dawn. I twisted the knob, and opened the door but I was stopped before I could step in. "What are you doing here?" I asked Cassidy, as she stared at me wide eyed. I knew that look. When it came from her, it only meant one thing. "What do you mean, alpha Xavier? Or, do I dare say Xavier?" She asked in a soft tone, one she only used when she wanted me. I averted my gaze from her, and took a step forw
Dawn's POV As Zade’s and my lips glided against each other’s, soft moans escaped my lips. I wrapped my hands around his neck, and bent my head a little to make it deeper. I softly rubbed the back of his neck, as I continued moaning into his mouth. For a split second, I pulled out of the kiss to catch my breath, but he pulled me closer, and took my bottom lip into his. When I pulled out of the kiss, I noticed that his eyes were a very dark shade of red. It looked scary, but surprisingly, I wasn't scared at all. In fact, it looked sexy to me and at that moment, I wanted him so bad. I wanted him to use more than his lips to explore every part of my body. Heat radiated from my body, and a pool of sweat gathered on my forehead. But my forehead wasn't the only part that was wet. Without thinking, I took his hand and guided it down, in between my thighs. It was so warm and wet and the thought of his cold finger slipping in and out of me even made me wetter. He slipped my pa
Dawn's POV When I got to the door of the guest room, I stood in front of it and was about to hold the knob when it suddenly opened with Zade standing right there. "How-" I started asking but stopped when I remembered that he was a vampire lord. I nodded at him, and walked into the room. It was so bright and well arranged and the bed looked more than comfortable. "The bed looks comfy," I subconsciously said, as I ran my hands through the soft cotton sheet. "Do you want to sleep on it now, or you would have a shower before?" He asked, and sat on the edge of the bed. The question hung in the air, as I hadn't thought about it. Sleeping without having a shower was something that I had never done before, back at my house when things were still normal. But now, nothing was normal. In the last 48 hours, I had made out with a vampire lord without getting biten, and I had two other werewolves as my mates. In fact, I was probably the only human in a house filled with so many pe
Dawn's POV The next morning, I couldn't find Zade. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, before yawning and just then, the door opened revealing Xavier's sister who strolled in with an exaggerated smile plastered across her face. "You'll wear this. You would be needed downstairs in the next ten minutes. Be fast," she said, and left immediately. I cursed under my breath, and scrambled off the bed. I quickly had my bath and got dressed in the simple dress that was laid out for me. As I got to the hallway, I was surprised by the way things worked in the house — everyone seemed busy. The maids walked up and down, doing one thing or the other. I went down the stairs, and I saw Xavier pacing up and down the throne hall and as expected, he looked angry. Immediately he sighted me, he stopped and barked at me to come inside. I did as I was told and lowered my gaze and waited for him to speak again. "How come Zade didn't feed off you? I don't get it. It doesn't make any sense! This wasn't
Xavier's POV Everywhere was so silent, as everyone's eyes were glued to Dawn. They all looked surprised and...confused? That only made me angrier, as I wondered why the attention was suddenly on her. "Dawn, step back," I said softly, to avoid ruining the mood. I was trying so hard to control my anger, but she wasn't making it easy. Instead of listening to me, she started walking towards the guard that she threw against a wall. "Step back!" I barked again and this time, she listened. An exasperated sigh escaped my lips, as I tried to maintain my composure. I summoned three guards, and said to them, "Guards, take them out!" Immediately, the three of them stormed towards dawn's pathetic parents. As the guards grabbed them, they tried to fight them off, but it did little to nothing. My heart warmed as the scene played out before me. But then... Dawn turned around to face them, and her eyes widened like she just understood what was happening. "No! You can't do
Dawn’s POV:“Go to your room!” Xavier barked at me and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t argue. I didn’t even need to be told twice as I dashed out of the dining area and ran up the stairs leading to Xavier’s chamber. When I arrived at my room, I slammed the door shut, fastened the locks into its place- so as not to take any chances- and crouched behind the bed. For some reason, I was scared… terrified even and I do not know why. For all I knew, Xander couldn’t be as bad as everyone was making him out to be, but whenever I remembered Autumn's words, and Ryan’s… and the way Xavier’s face had fallen at the news of his presence, I couldn’t help but think otherwise. My hands shook as I wrapped them around my knees and I even began to shake even more when I began to hear the sudden noises coming from downstairs. The shouts and the screams… and then the silence; The eerily intense silence that made my heart hammer against my chest as I couldn’t help but wonder why he was here… wh
Dawn’s POV:Ever since that incident with Cassidy the other night, my room was changed again, and this time, I was made to live in one of the rooms in Xavier’s private chamber. It was peaceful here… and beautiful too, but sometimes I couldn’t help but think that maybe now, I was trapped. Maybe there was no escaping him anymore. I knew that it was for my safety but I still felt weird thinking about it, especially whenever I remembered the way he had gone off on Cassidy that day.“Dawn… your food.” A deep rich masculine voice snapped me out of my train of thoughts and in shock, I lifted my head and blinked, surprised as I was met with two pairs of beautiful eyes… beautiful eyes that were all mine-‘if you think of it that way.I cleared my throat and sat up, and while I did, I never took my eyes off Xavier, not even for a second. You see, I wanted to talk to him, I wanted to ask him about my parents, about Cassidy’s situation, and I wanted to ask him who ‘Xander’ was, and in order to ena
Zade’s POV:It was silent… and cold, just the way I liked it whenever I wanted to think. As I lazed away in my indoor lounge with my favorite drink in hand- which was a sachet of blood type AB- I couldn’t help but think about what had happened earlier today. My people were going too far. I understood their anger at the fact that I had given Reagan away but retaliating by going after Dawn? That was too much! And I would make them pay for going after my mate!Sometimes, I couldn’t help but think about the possibilities of what would’ve been if Xavier, Ryan, and I hadn’t arrived there when we did. I couldn’t shake out the images that plagued my mind. Images of ‘what would haves’ that I struggled to shake off, and the more I thought about it, the angrier I became.Do you even know what is worse? The fact that I couldn’t talk to anyone about it… yet. I didn’t trust anyone here about issues relating to Dawn. Not my mother, and definitely not my friend, Micah. They hated humans with a passio
Dawn’s POV:As I laid in bed that night, I couldn’t stop thinking about what Ryan had said to me. It wasn’t a lot to process, but still, it had been shocking. I still wasn’t sure if the ‘murderer’ that plagued Autumn’s dreams was Xavier or his estranged brother, Xander, and at this point, I was sure that I ought to talk to Xavier about it in order to know the truth.Deciding that I would do just that when next I met him, I closed my eyes and snuggled into my duvet. It was night, I was tired and today had been an excruciatingly long day so it was only normal that I retired to bed. However just when I had slowly begun to doze off, a creaking noise by my door had me peeling my eyes wide open. It was so dark in here, as dark as a crow in a night’s sky, so I was certain that whoever must’ve come in could not see me. I took a sniff of the air, hoping to smell any one of my mates but to my surprise, the smell was foreign. It was feminine… and what stood out the most was the aura it gave off.
Dawn’s POV:I didn’t stop wailing as I packed up my suitcase and got into one of Xavier’s waiting cars, that is after explaining to my parents what was happening, and I still didn’t stop crying even as the car drove out of the dirt road leading out of the woods and into the city.I could remember their frightened faces. It was the only thing latched into my memory as I climbed into the car, and when Xavier promised to take them to a different bunker at a more secure location, they chickened out. They didn’t trust him, and that was understandable… but they trusted me and I couldn’t afford to bring them down.My tears continued to stream down my face and I didn’t notice until I felt something warm against my left cheek, brushing away the stray tear that had streaked that spot, and when I turned to the person to see that it was Ryan, I barely smiled. I only nodded. The ride continued in silence and when Ryan probably could no longer stand how quiet it was, he turned to me. His voice was
Dawn’s POV:I waited for the commotion outside to die down before I climbed up the ladder and unfastened the several locks to the bunker’s door. When I pushed the door open, I was suddenly hit with the metallic smell of blood and that wasn’t all. There were bodies scattered everywhere. And now, I know I may sound like I was exaggerating but more than ten corpses were lying on the floor, and while some were decapitated, the rest were just… dead.Another thing that I couldn’t shake out was the pungent smell of rotten flesh. It smelled disgusting and it emanated from the bodies on the floor, and now that I thought about it, it was the same as those I had smelled on those men back at Xavier’s pack, and in disgust, I scrunched up my nose.“Hey, Dawn! Good to see you.” Ryan greeted me with a sweet smile, and for a minute, I almost forgot about the corpses scattered around until I smelled them again. I smiled back; “Hi Ryan, good to see you too!”Silence…“What happened here?” I resorted to
Dawn’s POV: Autumn’s words wouldn’t stop playing in my head and the more I tried to shake it off, the more it plagued my mind. She wasn’t making it up. It didn’t look like she was. Even now, I could still feel the fear that radiated off her, could still see the way her body shook violently and how she had almost hyperventilated. I could still see the sweat… smell them too and none of those actions, none of those body languages showed that she was lying in any way. So it was true. I tossed and turned in bed that night, unable to sleep. I also knew that I needed to take a walk outside, or a run, but I couldn’t. It was late at night and knowing that everyone was fast asleep by now, and that there was no one to fasten the locks on the bunker’s door into place after I’ve left, I didn’t leave. Leaving meant putting them in danger and I would hate myself so much if I accidentally exposed them to more dangers than I have already at this point. I shook my head and sat up. Glancin
Dawn’s POV:My heart pounded in my chest as I slowly walked up to him and while I did, I couldn’t bring myself to look at him… to look at his beautiful eyes… so I watched the floor instead. The hammering of my heart turned into full palpitations when I arrived at where he stood with the wrapped gift and I was just about to beam a smile up at him when I remembered that he could hear my heartbeat. He had a sharp sense of hearing, one that was even sharper than mine, and this thought made me bow my head in embarrassment.“Hello to you too, Dawn.” He greeted teasingly, “How have you been?”His demeanor, his words… His actions made me very confused. I was so certain that he was mad at me and I could’ve sworn that he was only here to punish me for sending Alan back alone the time he came for me, so it was surprising that he was being playful right now. Hell, he’d even come with a present!“Dawn…?” His rich drawl snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked up at him slowly. I wasn’t sure what
Dawn’s POV:The next few days were filled with a series of events. First, I bonded with my family even more and went for jobs with them. I also managed to talk Autumn out of her fear for my kind (did you notice how I referred to werewolves as my kind? It was because I had finally made peace with that problem) and now, she was no longer as weary as she used to be around me.I also practiced how to shift in the woods and one time, after my parents and Logan pleaded with me to show them my wolf, I shifted in front of them too.And it was also during this time that mother told me everything surrounding the events that led them to me. She told me about how it was the second phase of the war between humans and supernaturals- the war that had made humans resort to living in underground bunkers- and how they’d found me in the arms of a badly injured woman who had pleaded with them to take me.They had thought that she was human like them and had taken the child (me) from her before she passed
