Chapter 10

And so, Jeremy became a walking corpse.

Every day, he’d wake up and start tidying up the house. He’d fold and stack my clothes, and keep them in the wardrobe, before staring at it for a long time.

Most of the time, he’d sit in the bedroom and flip through the scrapbook I made. As he flipped, he’d giggle at times, and break down in tears at others.

When night came around, he’d hold onto my scrapbook and my pajamas as he fell asleep, as if he couldn’t get a good night’s rest without it.

Before this, he wasn’t the type to do chores in the past, but now he’d often take a piece of cloth and wipe every single corner of the house until it gleamed. He took over the responsibility of taking care of my plants, too, and did a pretty good job of it at that.

He’d take especially good care of the items I used before I passed, wiping them carefully as he muttered to himself, “Look, aren’t I doing a good job? I’m really good at doing chores now, so you’ll be really happy after we get married.”
