My gaze moves behind him; it’s a slight movement, but he catches it and squats to my height on the floor.

Naturally, he steals my focus once more.

His hand pulls mine from my mouth. I hadn’t realised how tightly I clasped it against my mouth until he had to pry it off, and my rugged, loud, and disoriented breathing followed through.

My eyes shake as I try to calm myself. He kills people on a daily, so my reaction must look so pathetic to him.

Still, this is my husband, a cold-blooded murderer who can kill his dead lover’s look-alike without batting an eye.

Dear God, please, don’t ever let me be insignificant to this man.

I startle and push myself back into the wall when Christopher leans into me.

"I said call them.”

He says with a frown as if not understanding my hesitation.

“Tell them that I will come with you, and while there, if you forget your place as a padrino’s wife and let them walk over you..."

He makes no excuses, he knows who he is, and is ok with it. I love that he wants her to have the same self esteem, a similar ego to his. Yes he doesn't exactly go about it the right way, but nonetheless he is trying to help her the only way he knows how. I know he's crazy, but they go together.
