Chapter 8: Finding the Cure

JAYDEN

“Luna Cassandra is in a vegetative state.”

“What?”

Even though the doctor had said Cassie's condition wasn't fine, but a vegetative state? That's terrible!

It's the same as Cassie being in a coma, between life and death.

"Can you cure her? I want you to help her. Ah no, you have to save her no matter what."

Elder closed his eyes and examined my bite marks on Cassie's neck. Then his tense expression slowly faded. “The good news is, fortunately your pheromones and Luna Cassandra's pheromones haven't merged yet, so I think there's still a chance to save her.”

I sighed, luckily there was still a chance. Thank God.

“Then how?”

"There is only one way, Alpha Jayden. Although there has never been a case like this before, but in the history books it is written that to save someone from Alpha pheromones, a medicine from the Ucalda plant must be given-

The plant is like an antidote and must be extracted to be used as medicine.”

Ucalda plant, I knew the plant because I had learned about its history while undergoing basic education to become an Alpha. And the elder was right, it was a plant that could be used to control pheromones.

"Are you sure it can be used to cure her? I mean, you know that her pheromones are also trying to fight my pheromones?"

“Although it has never been done, but we should try it, Alpha Jayden.”

“Then do it immediately.”

“Unfortunately it's not that easy.”

I took a deep breath.

Alright, I had to be patient with the elder, I couldn't yell at him because I needed him right now. “So what makes it difficult?

"The Ucalda plant is very hard to find. It only exists on the Neuvern Island, a desolate island in the Pack Nexus that is bordered by the kingdom of Serenith, the wizard kingdom in the cold north. And extracting the plant was not easy. If it goes wrong, instead of being a medicine, the Ucalda plant can be a very deadly poison."

I don't care whether it borders the witch kingdom of Serenith or any other kingdom, I just want the antidote!

"But you can do it right? You can extract the plant to become medicine?"

”Yes, I'll do it with the help of some of my people."

“Then do it.” That was my decision. "If there is still a way to save Luna Cassandra, then do it. I will support you fully."

"Alright, Alpha Jayden. To go to Neuvern Island, we need to travel on a sturdy ship because as you know, the waves in the sea leading to the island are fierce and deadly. We need to be well prepared."

“You mean wait until she's dying?” I pointed at Cassie. "Do it as soon as possible. I'll take care of everything, you just need to come with me and look after my Luna on the way there. Do you understand me, Elder?"

Even if it's extremely dangerous, even having to cross the deadly ocean, I'll still try.

It's my mistake, so I'll make it right.

While there is still a chance, then Cassie can still live. There's still hope, right?

"We'll do it tonight. Get ready."

This night, we went to Neuvern Island.

There was the elder and his apprentice, the doctor, and a few bodyguards that I brought along. I deliberately didn't bring many people because the more people who knew, the more likely the information would leak out. I even had to leave Hagen behind so that he could give an excuse if someone came looking for me in the city.

“Hang on tight, we'll find a cure for you,” I said softly.

I gently stroked Cassie's hair. But my focus shifted to her flat stomach.

I placed my hand there.

Until suddenly a vague image flashed back in front of me.

It's just like the shadow I saw that night!

Does this mean I can read my child's future?

I had to confirm it once more.

So I put my hand on her stomach again.

The video-like image appeared again. It was still blurry, but I could see a little girl. The little girl was smiling at me and I saw myself walking with her in my arms.

But wait, why didn't I see Cassie? Why isn't she there? Is it because I divorced her or something else?

All of a sudden Cassie coughed.

Blood was coming out of her mouth and nose.

“Doctor come here!” I shouted.

The doctor and the elder came together. They checked Cassie's condition.

What was going on? Why is she suddenly like that?

Could it be that.... there was definitely not because Cassie died, right?

But our child was already born and I even held her. So Cassie should have survived, right?

“What happened to her?” I asked impatiently.

"That's a normal reaction, Alpha Jayden. You don't need to worry about it."

“A normal reaction you said?” I gripped the doctor's coat. “You say it's normal when she bleeds that much, huh!”

I couldn't contain my anger anymore. It's an emergency and he's trying to make it a joke? Seriously!

The elder grabbed my hand, “Alpha Jayden, please keep your emotions in control. What the doctor said was true, it was a reaction when the marking failed. What is dangerous is not the blood coming out of Luna Cassandra's body, but if your pheromones manage to get into her pheromones.”

I released my grip on the doctor's coat. “She could lose a lot of blood if it continues like that!” 

“I will give her blood transfer immediately.” Doctor Bram looked scared. But he still managed to do his job, he gave Cassie blood. 

“As long as Luna Cassandra's pheromones can still counter your pheromones, it means that Luna Cassandra is still fine. But otherwise, if she no longer responds, it's a sign of danger,” the elder explained. 

This was so complicated, so frustrating.

I tried to take a few steps away from them to calm down. 

I looked out there, big waves were constantly hitting this ship and it was making things unstable here. 

“Make sure to keep the IV from moving because that will hurt,” I ordered.”

“Yes, Alpha Jayden, I'll continue to monitor,” Doctor Bram replied.

Never in my life had I imagined that the pheromones, which were my other source of power because they could paralyze my enemies, could be toxic to my Lunas. 

What I thought when I marked her was that our pheromones would merge and she would become my mate. But the result was different. 

“The blood transfer has been successfully done.”

I pushed the doctor away from me and sat beside Cassie. 

“I'll clean up the blood. You can leave this room.”

I took the wet cloth that had been prepared at the side of the bed and gently wiped around her mouth and nose. 

She vomited blood twice already. And I have yet to investigate why she vomited blood the first time. 

Whether it was due to the reaction of her powers or something else. 

“Is it true that we have met before?”

The longer I stared, the more convinced I became that I had indeed met her. 

I uncovered a bit of her shirt that covered her stomach. 

The scissor puncture wound had disappeared. 

Luckily I was able to stop her in the nick of time before she managed to hurt our baby. 

“You know, you're the bravest woman I've ever met. You're very reckless and quite stubborn.”

“Are you going to kill me when you wake up because you have to go through this trouble?”

I'm probably crazy for laughing at this situation. But this situation was really comical and confusing. 

I met the curse-breaking woman and I also almost lost her on the same day. 

It seems like fate is really playing tricks on me. 

After what happened in the past, am I really not allowed to breathe a little peace?

The curse.... wasn't my fault. 

I didn't even know I was cursed until my father's second wife told me, yes she is Kylie Arnault, the evil woman who managed to destroy my family. 

She was also the one who spread to the entire Pack that I was cursed. Although not directly but using her henchmen, I know she did it. 

Damn it, my past wounds are opening up again. 

“You have to wake up Cassie, only you can help me.” 

I rubbed my bite mark on her neck which was still red. 

Shit, that spring flower smell is back again. 

It affects my head making it dizzy. 

I forgot it was mating time as the elders said for us werewolves who already have partners. 

I had to get away from Cassie immediately before I actually jumped on her and made things worse. 

My steps staggered towards the door. 

Hold on Jayden, you can't be overpowered by your lust. 

Soon I'll be able to hold the door handle....

“Alpha Jayden!” 

My body was held back by a few bodyguards as I was about to fall. 

“Are you okay?”

Are they blind? I'm dying of restraint right now!

“Take me to the other room and lock me in there. If I try to come back here, prevent me. Do you understand?”

“Yes, I understand.”
