I came home late that night, the darkness outside mirroring the heaviness in my heart.

As I stepped quietly into the house, I headed to Katya’s room and noticed Camila sleeping on the air mattress.

The sight tugged at my heartstrings. Kenneth had closed for the day, leaving Camila home alone. She looked so peaceful and vulnerable, and I couldn't bear to disturb her rest.

Gently, I scooped Camila up from the mattress, careful not to wake her and Katya. She stirred in my arms, and my heart ached with love and worry. I softly kissed her forehead, feeling the warmth of her skin against my lips.

"Sleep, it's okay," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

She nestled closer and drifted back into her dreams. I carried her to her room, laying her gently on the bed, and watched her for a moment. She looked so angelic, so innocent, and it made my chest tighten with a mixture of love and fear.
