Damien

“How did this happen?” I said in thunderous tone as I peered between Ollie, and the rest of the men behind him.

“They breached the entrance. W…wwe didn’t see them come through and when realized it, we tried to our best to..”

“Tried!” I spat. “If you all can’t defend our territory. You’re showing the enemies that we are weak.”

“You need to calm down Damien!” Hugh said, and I furrowed my brows.

“I can’t calm down.” My voice increased, and saw fear take over the eyes of my men.

“You have failed me. All of you.”I said with my eyes landing on each, and everyone of them. “And you know what happens when you fail me.”

I watched as they dropped to them knees. Their face covered in more fear as they looked at me.

“We are sorry boss.” They said. “We didn’t mean to—“

“Silence!” I growled, raising up a hand. “Your pleads won’t save you. You all will be punished once I return.”

Then my gaze focused on Ollie. “I want the keys to the truck. I’m going to the city.“

The minute my men walked away. Hugh faced me with a stern look on his face.

“What are you going to the city for?” He asked.

I was silent and his eyes grew. “Don’t tell me you want to go after the girl?”

“She’s useful.” I declared.

“Useful?” Hugh repeated. “To you or to the gang because it’s starting to sound like you are letting her—“

“Don’t start with this distraction talk. She helped us get the watch, she’s going to help us do more. She’s important.”

“I hope so.” With that Hugh walked away.

I headed to the truck, and hours later I arrived at the city. I made my way to Alberto’s hideout— which was a warehouse in the depths of the city.

It was nearly midnight when I arrived. Alberto’s men were everywhere, loading crates of what I assumed were weed bundles into trucks. Their gruff laughter echoed loudly as I passed them, pulling my hood to hide my face.

A tall, bearded man barked at me before I even got close to the door.

“You! Quit skulking around like a stray dog and hand that parcel to the boss. He’s been expecting it.”

I nodded without a word, gripping the parcel he shoved into my hands.

“Wait!” He called out and I paused midway. I heard him take a step forward.

I was about to be caught. I moved my hands to my pocket where I kept my gun, preparing to strike.

“Hugo!” A voice called, and the man stopped walking.

“There’s an emergency upfront.” The voice said. “It’s a code red, and the boss would be furious if we don’t tackle it.”

I heard his steps regress and without sparing any moment I walked quickly.

I have been to Alberto’s hideout before so I knew my way around it. The minute I sighted his office I pushed the door open.

Alberto who was sitting behind a desk with a cigar in hand, glanced up. His expression turned sour as he barked.

“You filthy bastards don’t ever learn. How many times have I told you to fucking knock?”

I locked the door behind me, flipping my hoodie back to reveal my face. “Who are you calling a filthy bastard, Alberto?”

His eyes narrowed, and his hand instinctively moved toward the gun on his desk. I did the same thing, pulling my pistol and pointing it directly at him.

“You’ve got some nerve walking into my space with a gun,” Alberto said, cocking his pistol and aiming it back at me. “You just walked into a lion’s den, and now you’re going to meet your death.”

I didn’t flinch. “I’m not afraid of you, Alberto. Now, where’s the girl?”

His smirk was infuriating. “Girl? I have no idea what you’re babbling about.”

I stepped closer, my gun remained fixed at his direction. “Don’t lie to me. Tell me where Allison is, or I’ll paint these walls with your blood.”

He chuckled. “Try it.”

“You’re going to regret what you said.”

“A Santiago never regrets, just as a Santiago can’t never be easily fooled.” His chucking stopped and his face grew serious. “You thought I wouldn’t figure your plans out. Did you?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking neither do I care, I just want the girl.” I spat, taking a step forward.

“Act clueless all you want but it’s sad that you thought you could steal from me and I wouldn’t figure it out? You knew that watch was my heirloom, didn’t you? You thought taking it and delivering it to the gang in the East lands would rattle me. You wanted to cause a war.”

I clenched my jaw, trying not to let my shock show. Alberto was sharper than I’d given him credit for. But I didn’t let him realize that.

“I want the girl. Now.”

He dropped back in his chair, laughing. “You’ll get the girl when I get my watch.”

“That’s never going to happen,” I spat, my finger tightening on the trigger.

Before I could think twice, I fired a shot. The bullet grazed his arm as he let out a curse, retaliating with a shot of his own. The bullet shattered a lamp inches from my head. I dove behind a shelf, firing again.

I watched Alberto moving closer. I waited for the right moment to strike, the second I spotted the right opportunity I stood up.

“You’re going to meet your last day, Alberto!” I roared, kicking his gun from his hand.

He staggered back, and I lunged at him, grabbing him by the neck.

His face turned red as I tightened my grip. “You forget who you’re dealing with, old man. Now, tell me where you’re keeping her!”

I guess the sound of our gunfire seemed to have alerted his men, because they started banging the door.

Alberto yelled at to them, urging them to save him.

I Ignored his cry for help pressing my gun on his head. “Tell me where the girl is!”

“She’s not with me anymore!” he croaked.

“Liar!” I slammed his head against the wall. “Tell me the truth before I send you to join your father in his grave!”

“She escaped!” he cried. “I kept her at my second base, but she slipped through my fingers! That’s the truth!”

I hesitated, scanning his face for lies. Then he added, “Look at my desk! There’s a letter I sent to Samuel, asking him to be on the lookout for her.”

I glanced at the paper, seeing the words scrawled in his messy handwriting. He wasn’t lying.

Fury boiled in my veins. “You lost her,” I growled.

Before he could respond, I pulled the trigger. Blood splattered around the room as his body slumped to the floor. The door burst open, but I was already climbing out the window, disappearing into the night.

As I hit the ground and sprinted into the shadows, a vow echoed in my mind. ‘I’ll find her. I don’t know why, but I won’t stop until she’s back in the highlands with me.’

My arms ached from being tied behind my back. They shoved me into a dim room, the door slamming shut behind me. When I tuned, I saw Alberto standing at the far end, his back to me as he examined a small object in his hand. He turned slowly when he noticed me, a wicked smile spreading across his face. “Nice to meet you again,” he said flashing me a sly smile. I didn’t reply, keeping my eyes fixed on him. “What’s the matter?” Alberto sneered, taking a step closer. “Why so quiet? You were all chatty the night you and that mutt Damien stole my watch.” Still, I said nothing. He hated my silence, and I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of a reaction. His grin dropped , and his expression darkened. He closed the gap between us in two swift steps, grabbing a fistful of my hair and yanking my head back. Pain shot through my scalp, but I didn’t flinch. “You and Damien Santos a

There’s evidence, Rae. Back at our home. If you come with me, I’ll show you everything.”I took a step back. I was feeling overwhelmed by everything. I didn’t know what to do. I just stared at Aiden.Aiden moved closer to me. “I know no apology is going to make up for what I did, but I will keep apologizing if that’s what it takes to get you to come home with me. I let my emotions take over, which was wrong.” Aiden paused, then his voice picked up again. “Listen to me. There’s nothing going on with Mabel. I swear it. Everything I said that day... it was out of anger. I didn’t mean any of it.”“You’re lying!” I snapped, my voice breaking. “You told me you were going to marry her. That you’d give her everything—my inheritance, my life. You wanted to replace me with her, Aiden!”

Alison The week leading up to my departure to the Highlands has been hectic.Aiden and I had spent endless hours formulating plans to bring Damien down.Aiden had decided that the only way to destroy Damien was to go undercover and unravel his schemes. It was risky, but Aiden was determined—and so was I.That morning, the reality of leaving weighed heavily on both of us. The room was quiet, save for the sound of our breathing as we sat side by side on the bed.“I’m going to miss you,” he said, breaking the silence. He planted a tender kiss on my temple. Then his lips trailed down to my cheek, lingering there for a moment.I looked at him, feeling a bit sad. “I’ll miss you too,” I said softly. His lips found mine, and slowly he kissed me.“I just want to make our last time together memorable,” he murmured, pulling back slightly to look into my eyes.I laughed. “You’re making it sound like I’ll be gone forever.”He smiled, but there was something bittersweet in it. “It’s going to feel

It’s pathetic.”“I’m not obsessed,” I said through clenched teeth, dropping the dumbbells to the floor with a heavy thud. “She’s important to this gang.”Gemma scoffed. “In what way? Tell me, Damien, because none of us can see it. She’s just a liability.”“I owe you no explanations,” I snapped, grabbing a towel and wiping the sweat off my face. “Now leave me alone.”But Gemma didn’t leave. She stepped closer, her tone softening. “You don’t even care about me anymore, do you?” she murmured, reaching out to touch my arm. “

Alison “So that’s the plan?” I asked as Damien and I sat in the car. My wounds had completely healed, and I was back to being Damien’s puppet.“It sounds simple doesn’t it?” Damien asked, staring at me.“Yes it does.” I replied. “I must warn you, as simple as the plan sound. It is also very risky.” He said, starting the engine. “Ares is young, and because of that his brothers would do anything to protect him. They are also far more dangerous than you can imagine.”“I have seen far more dangerous men, and I have dealt with them.” I said.“Look at you, sounding like a gangster.” Damien laughed. It was a genuine laughter, and it seemed to light up his eyes.I looked away. I didn’t want to be blinded by how beautiful they were, reminding myself along the line that this man was a monster. When we got to the mansion where the event was held. Damien’s expression had changed as he stared at me. The soft look had died, and he appeared cold.“Do you want me to go over the plan over again?” H

Why couldn’t you fucking shoot the gun?”I didn’t speak, and made Damien turn away from me.“I need to call Hugh to come pick us up.”He said as he pulled out his phone.“Shit!” he exclaimed in frustration. “My screen’s cracked. Things just keep getting fucking worse.”I watched as he flung his phone on the ground, then he turned to face me.“I’m-going to make sure I punish you for putting me in this mess.” He yelled.“Damien I —““I don’t want to hear your lame excuses. We have to continue on foot. It’s better we walk down the bush path. That way, those men can’t find us.”I nodded, following him behind. It was dark, and it made hard for me to see. Alison has been in the emergency room for the past fifteen minutes.I was losing my mind, and it was strange because I never lost my mind about anything. Even at gunpoint I stood firm, not caring about the consequences, but here I was afraid of losing someone I barely knew. What has Alison done to me? I was gradually becoming a shadow of myself, letting my emotions rule over my strong judgment and beliefs. It was frustrating just thinking about it. I couldn’t continue like this. I had to do something, but what?I knew the only way to stop me from acting this way was to get rid of Alison, but was I ready to do that?I couldn’t bring myself to answer that because I knew the answer would only remind me of my weakness.I pulled myself out of my thoughts, and my eyes glanced at the door. Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor. He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray. “Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.” I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.” Hugh nodded. “Good. Alison The moment I rolled to the other side of the bed and found out it was empty. I sat up, quickly.“Damien!” I said, after realizing he wasn’t by my side.‘Where did he go?’ I asked myself. He couldn’t be in the shower because I couldn’t hear the water running.I didn’t want to stay alone, so I threw the covers off my body and went to look for him as I made my way toward the door the voices I heard on the other side of the door stopped me in my tracks. It was Damien and Hugh. They happened to be arguing. I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices. “You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.” Hugh let ou

I was exhausted. When we finally pulled up to the house, I glanced at Alison. Her head was leaning against the window, her breathing soft and steady. She was barely keeping her eyes open. I reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Come on,” I murmured. “Let’s get you inside.”She stirred slightly but didn’t argue when I helped her out of the car. Her body clung to me like a second skin as I guided her up the stairs. The moment we stepped into the house, she mumbled something incoherent, already half-asleep. I smiled. “Alright, let’s get you to bed.”I led her to the bedroom, pulled back the covers, and eased her onto the mattress. She barely moved as I tucked her in. As I turned to leave, her hand shot out, gripping my wrist weakly. “Please can you stay with me?”“I’m not goin

The minute the car opened, I felt the cold air hit my face first, carrying with it the distant sound of passing vehicles. Were we on a main road? A city? Was this where I die, before I could process my thoughts, a firm hand gripped my arm. A second later, I felt the ropes around my wrists being yanked loose. Then the blindfold came off. I blinked rapidly as light flooded my vision. When I finally saw who was standing in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God…”I could barely get the words out. It was Damien. He had saved me.My body moved before I could think—I threw myself at him, my arms wrapping around his torso, holding onto him as if I needed proof that he was real.“Damien!” I finally woke.He let out a small chuckle, as he wrapped his arms around me. “Surprised?” he murmured

I swallowed, my throat dry. “Hello?” My voice wavered. “Who’s there?” There was no answer. The silence that followed made me realize I was all alone.I lay still, with my chest rising and falling with panicked breaths. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out the quiet. Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I
