Emily's POV

“So you don't think humans kill each other under false pretense all the time?”

“Humans are not perfect and they go against each other a lot of time. That doesn't mean that this time, a berserker isn't responsible for their deaths.”

“Do you believe in this so much, Fayne?”

He nodded, “I do.”

I clenched my fists. No matter what I said, he wouldn't believe me. Which meant that I should keep my being a berserker away from him as it was unlikely for him to support me if I told him that.

I kept my head bowed. “I'm going to bed, Fayne.”

Fayne looked at me with parted lips, then he nodded.

I went to my room and laid on the bed while sobbing myself to sleep. I was healing… I remembered everything that I had gone through and it made me feel overwhelmed and emotional.

I wiped my tears but I couldn't forget any of what I had to go through. Maybe that was why I was here. To heal from the pains of the past.

My parents… if only they cared about me as much as I was inclined to care about them. Familial ties, how sacred it was. But not where I come from.

I sighed and eventually feel the sleep taking over me. I closed my eyes and eventually fell asleep.

The next day came, I was awoken by the bright sunlight from the window. It was beautiful and sacred.

I sat up on the bed and wiped the corner of my eyes from any sticky or gooey dirt. Then I went to the bathroom and took a shower. Once I was done, I wrapped myself with a towel. My hair was soft and long so I let it dry and then braid it into three thick rows.

I looked beautiful in the mirror and I kept that imagery in my head.

I walked to the closet and picked up a purple dress. It was beautiful and looked regal. I wore the clothing and smiled. I kept in mind to ask Fayne about the dresses later.

“What a sweet morning,” I said out loud to myself.

I opened the windows and let the sunlight in then I started singing some random song out loud while dancing around the room. It was beautiful, I felt beautiful. I guessed releasing my tears last night was a winner's mindset.

When I was done basking in the beauty of the day, I went to the backyard where I saw Fayne holding Grey while staring at it with admiration.

I held back a small laugh.

Fayne turned towards me.

“You're awake,” he said while passing the rabbit to me.

“Good morning,” I said, and he nodded. I grabbed the rabbit from his hand and caressed Grey softly on the head.

Then we had breakfast together outside under the bamboo roof.

Our breakfast was spaghetti and meatballs with some cheese. I fed Grey some lettuce and carrots.

After we had breakfast, Fayne looked at me with a look I didn't quite understand.

“What Fayne?” I asked.

“You're not quite human, are you?”

I froze.

“W-what do you mean?”

“When I first met you, you sacrificed yourself for some non-humans. It only makes sense that you're one of them.”

I looked at Fayne intensely. Right now my wolf was not as active as I would expect it too. Fayne was not capable of knowing if I was a human or not. I just had to tell him the story that he would believe.

“Fayne, indeed, I had compassion for those non-humans but why would you put me on the same category as them? You rescued me, you should know better.”

“What are you trying to say—”

“—Fayne, you didn't even ask for my name. Is this because you've been suspecting me my identity all this while?”

Fayne remained quiet.

“I tried to repay your benevolence by doing some work around your house but it appears that you didn't even care about that. Your only idea is that I could be non-human but think about it, would a non-human do all the things that I've been doing for you? Would a non-human even rescue a rabbit?”

Fayne suddenly blinked, his eyes tearing away from me as he thought deeply.

“Fayne, you may think of me as just the girl you saved that you wouldn't be around for long but I thought of you as a saviour even though you shot me.”

Fayne pursed his lips. “That's exactly why I'm suspicious of you. I shot you with wolfsbane but you didn't die.”

“And that's only because you brought in an healer to look after me, if not, I'd be dead. And think about it, if I was really a non-human, a werewolf, the wolfsbane would have killed me.”

Fayne looked down at the table thoughtfully.

“I don't know…”

Taking advantage of his hesitation, I cleared my throat.

“Since you are the one who rescued me, I will not hold it against you.”

Fayne looked up to face me.

“My name is Emily and I'm human,” I said, stretching my hand forth for an handshake.

He shook my hand and smiled at me.

“Hello, Emily.”

“I hope we can talk to each other well by keeping the slates clean, Fayne.” I said while keeping a thin smile.

I knew that it was wrong to lie but right now, it didn't matter whether I was a werewolf or not. It mattered that Fayne didn't trust me enough and I wanted to break that barrier between us.

“Emily, I'm sorry for shooting at you.” Fayne said and I smiled.

It seemed he believed my outburst that I was a human like him. I didn't mean to lie to him but it was the only way for him to trust me enough to keep me around.

“It’s okay, Fayne.” I said while leaning closer to him. “So, can you tell me about yourself? More than you just being the king's hunter.”

Fayne's eyebrows furrowed.

My nails got darker and elongated till my claws were fully jutted out.It wasn't a full moon that night, but I hadn't gained total control over my wolf-self.Fancied, — as though I hadn't seen my claws a million times — I swung my hand and cleaved at the window, leaving four slash marks on the glass. I had to hold back, so I wouldn't have to start clearing up broken shards of glass, again. Then I heard a voice, a familiar voice…“Ugh… Seriously, Emily, you have to stop doing that.”I retracted my claws and turned my gaze away from the window. Standing at the other side of the bed, with a hand on her tapered waist, was my best friend, Lyla Dune, a beta like me. She was much stronger though.“You know we just got that window, right? If you break this one, we'll miss the party,” she adde

Real!I could tell it was real because of the pain I felt when Lyla slapped me on the cheek. It pushed my head sideways and I hit my temple against the door’s glass. It hurt. My head spun. The next thing I could remember was seeing her crawl towards the back and open the door. But I still had my weight resting on it, so I fell immediately when it opened.I struck my body against the concrete floor of the car park. I could have sworn to hear a few bone cracks. Then the jeep roared to life and drove out of the car park, feeding me with dust and smoke from its exhaust pipe.I was left battered and bruised, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It was probably still a couple of minutes to six that morning because the sun was barely out. The surroundings were still dark and bleak.I heaved a relieved sigh that it was still early. It w
