Emily's POV

Fayne's look was aggravated and angry which made me stare at him with raised brows. I'd never seen him this unsettled. It made me wonder if there was more underneath the surface.

“The king wants you to give him an explanation.” Liam said to Fayne. But then Fayne's wandering eyes caught mine.

I cleared my throat nervously and walked over.

“Here are the stuffs you requested.”

I placed the pieces of papers and ink on the desk.

Liam stood on his feet and bowed to Fayne. “Sir, I'll get going now.”

Fayne said nothing and watched Liam leave.

I looked at Fayne and hesitated. Should I really be saying something to Liam right now?

“Are you okay?”

I ended up asking, then I realized that he must see that as a stupid question. He was obviously not doing well. I was about to change the direction of the conversation but Fayne looked at me with a gentle smile.

“I’m fine.”

I was taken aback by Fayne's smile.

“What's wrong with you?” I looked at him hesitantly. I'd rarely seen him smile.

Emily's POVMy eyes widened as he spoke. “Emily, you should leave.”I looked at Fayne's face, understanding what he was saying. It didn't matter what I wanted. He was telling me to leave and it was up to me to respect myself and leave.“Fine, I'll leave. But before I leave, give me three days.”“And what will the three days be for?” He asked me.“You'll teach me how to survive alone with multiple skills that you have such as shooting and setting traps for animals.”“Mind you, it's not all skills that require physical strength. Some have to deal with de-escalating conflicts and so on.”“I'm willing to learn as much as possible from you before leaving.” I said.Fayne looked at me for the longest time possible and then nodded.“Today will be the first day then.”“But it's getting late.”“It's better than starting later.”I couldn't help but think that Fayne was keeping something from me. He was acting pretty normal untill Liam came with some letters for him to read. I wondered what that

Emily's POV I left the rabbit, Grey in Fayne's backyard maybe he would take care of him. At least he'd have something that reminded him of me. In my room, I opened the wardrobe and pulled out some of the clothes. I folded them neatly and put them in the bag. Once I was done, I flung the bag across of my shoulder and walked out. I would miss this place but it didn't matter. Not to me, not to Fayne.I entered the woods and took the path to the town. When I entered the town, I noticed how scanty the town was which made me wonder. There was nothing different about it but the people weren't filled with as much brightness and beauty anymore.I walked to a nearby stall in which an elderly woman was making noodles. I walked to her, filled with much curiosity.“Hello ma'am,” I said to her but I was left with no response.“Do not be offended but I have something to ask you.”“No noodles, no asking.” She responded.I had no money in my hands so I couldn't buy her noodles.I sighed and proceeded

Many humans were cuffed in chains and dragged around which made me worry. Just what was going on?“Get the girl,” their presumed leader was on the white horse wearing his dark long hair in braids. He had the typical bad boy look. But it wasn't a look that a lot of men would be attracted to.Before I knew what was going on, I was grabbed by a werewolf and I didn't see him coming. Emily's POV I shivered, my eyes gleaming with tears as I watched him and the others being led by the werewolves. I wanted to go to him right away, but I was bound.Fayne's eyes met mine and my lips parted. Fayne slightly shook his head as though pleading with me not to acknowledge him.“Boss, they're here. We captured the queen too.”Jones stepped out with a knife in his hand. He tossed it in front of the queen.“Queen of the human empire, how lovely to see you in this state… Not!” Jones mocked. The queen clenched her fists. “You monsters! You killed the ruler of the human village. Do you think no one will ever put a stop to your schemes?!” She yelled causing Jones to laugh loudly.“Queen of the human empire, What do you choose?”“I'd rather die.”Jones nodded, “Then do it!”The queen snatched the knife from the ground and brought it to her neck.“As long as the king is dead, I'm not willing to live anymore.”Fayne shook his head, “No, my queen.”Before Fayne could drop her, the que

Emily's POV That evening, I realized where we were heading and it made goosebumps travel down my spine. We were right back where I started, Donovan pack. One of Jones' men walked up to him.“Leader, we're about to reach Donovan pack. Do we take a rest here or go to Donovan pack?”“We should go there right now. By nightfall we should arrive there.” Jones said and he nodded. “Yes sir!”We continued walking and we were nearly there when Fayne suddenly collapsed.“Oh no,” I gasped.Jones halted his horse and one of his men went to check on Fayne.“He's alive but he seems too weak to continue,” “Leave him there then. I don't want a useless human for a slave.”They were about to keep going but I raised my hand up for the first time.Jones' gaze traveled to me and he gave me a disgusted look.“Who are you?”“My name is Emily,” I said. “This man… I'll help him continue the journey until we arrive at your destination.”Jones scoffed.“Do whatever you want.” Jones glared at one of his men

Of course it's to bring you back home. After so many years, it's about time you understood your roots.”Tears rolled down my cheeks which I quickly wiped away.“Have you finally learnt your lesson?” Father asked me and I bowed my head in shame.“Father, I have no idea what to tell you.”“You don't have to say anything, just follow my lead and come with me.”I turned back to Fayne and he looked at me without saying a word. You'll need the energy.”I cleared my throat.“Well If you don't want to say something, that's also okay.” My father gave me a nod and I proceeded to eat with my father in silence. However, it became real uncomfortable for me.“Father,” I said softly. “Emily, how was your life as a slave?” He asked me out of blue which made me look up at him confusedly.“Father, what do you mean?”“Did you not learn a thing about how to speak and when to not speak?”My father's words felt degrading and it made me lose my appetite. I placed down the fork I was using to eat and ran my fingers through my hair.“I'm retiring to my room dad, if you don't want to talk to me concerning something, then don't.” I stood to my feet and walked to my room. Not marrying you off sooner.”I clenched my fists tightly. My own father didn't really care about me.I smiled painfully. I should've known that long ago. What was I expecting?“Thank you father,” I said, and my father's eyes widened in confusion. He probably didn't expect what I said to him.“For what?” He asked.“For freeing me as a slave and Fayne too…”My father closed the distance between us. “This Fayne guy… You know better than to cross the line with him, right, Emily?”I nodded. “I see Fayne as nothing but a slave I can use to pass time when I'm bored at my soon-to-be husband's house.”“I truly hope it's nothing more than that.” My father said. After a few minutes of him staring at me, he sighed. “Go now, Emily. Emily's POV That night, I went to the Beta's office and saw multiple files and documents. I looked through it and saw a painting of Jacob's Beta and the late Luna.I grabbed it and decided to keep it. I could use it against Jacob's Beta later in the future. As I was about to walk to the door, I realized that it was not a good method to take advantage in this way. Jacob's Beta could become super wary of me and I didn't want this to happen. He was more useful as an ally than as an enemy.I sighed and put the painting back. At least, I confirmed that Jacob's beta and the late Luna indeed were lovers or at least, Jacob's Beta loved her so much even though the feelings were not requited.I guess in this packhouse there was no such thing as real love, only false appearances and betrayal.I left the Beta's office and went to my room. Melissa was standing by the entrance. The moment she saw me, she bowed.“Luna,”“What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in your room or something?”“Sorry

I went back to the office where Link was sitting and gave him the boxes. “Transport these to Donovan's pack. Make sure the Alpha receives it.” Then I tossed the bag containing 500 gold to Link and he caught it in his hand.“That's five hundred worth of gold. Make sure you take care of the transportation and ensure nothing out of the ordinary happens.” I said and Link nodded calmly.“Yes, Luna.”“You're dismissed.”Link started to leave with the boxes and all of a sudden, he halted in his steps and whispered.“If only you were the Alpha, you'd have my loyalty.”I pretended to not hear and watch Link walk out the door.I inhaled deeply. Looking around the office that I was in. It felt so right like it was perfectly made for me.Next, I heard a knock on my office and wh

Let's talk about it.”Melissa brought forth a chair and the woman sat in front of me.“I want a cut in the budget. We'll use a new technique to preserve the deceased.”“But how, Luna?”“We'll use natural ingredients to form formaldehyde. I think it'll be best in the preservation of the corpse.”“The ingredients remain the same, Luna. We cannot cut costs. The final moments of a corpse is important for the nearest generation.”“I understand.” I said. “But we do have to cut costs.” I said firmly. “I remember that Donovan pack has Formaldehyde as well as some embalming fluids for corpse. I'll contact them for some.”Even though my brother Matteo was no longer on my side, my father was going to coo

We've never gotten that close to have a good conversation.”Even though I spoke casually, I was secretly curious as to what he wanted to talk to me about.“I don't know but he's waiting down the hallway for you.”“Hmm,” I said thoughtfully. I got up from my bed and Melissa said, “Won't you like to eat first before going?”“I don't want to keep him standing there for long.” I said.I looked at my reflection in the mirror and smiled. I looked very well.Melissa opened the door for me and I stepped out of the room.I walked down the hallway only to see Jacob's Beta standing with his hand at his back. Fayne's POV “Sure, I read about it.” I said and she gasped while staring at me regretfully.“The human using demonic abilities would be bound to die a painful death if the power is unleashed at a maximum percentage.” I said and she nodded.“Exactly. Any human using demonic abilities is bound to die painfully. Why would you want that for yourself? Fayne, right now, you're a healthy human. You can find somebody else to love you. You can also earn a living for yourself by learning medicine and herbs. Why would you want to live a life of absolute torture?”“From what I read, a human using demonic abilities doesn't mean he or she gets to live a life of absolute torture.”“It is torture. Using too much abilities that is not naturally inclined to humanhood is torture.” She said.“I don't look at it that way, ma'am. You have no idea, I am willing to do anything as long as I have my wife back at my side.”Beth sighed. “Are you sure that you love her?”“What do you mean?” I said, feeling offen

She was carrying a bowl of hot water that smelt different. “What did you put in the water?” I asked her, “It smells weird.”“Oh, you'll know all about that but in the meanwhile, strip.” She told me.I did as she said and she began to put needles in my body. I winced but I took on the pain without a single word of complaint. Then she pressed the hot water into my skin and I let out a loud cry. I felt like I had just been hit by something pepperish.“Take the pain like a man, Fayne. The amou

I don't know if that's why she agreed to marry me.” I said, running my fingers through my hair in exasperation.Beth helped me stand up, then she said, “It'll be best if you stay here and I help you heal. I am also willing to pass onto you, all of my knowledge on herbs as long as you become my disciple.”My eyes widened. It was a good offer but I didn't care about it. All I wanted to know was the truth. Did Emily truly love me? Or did she only marry me to trick me? Or was it because she thought I would die? This answer was only one I would get if I asked her in person.Goosebumps covered my skin as I remembered how our bodies had mesh onto each other’s so effortlessly. All of that, was it all a lie keeping me stuck?“Fayne,” Beth shook me awake, causing me to come back into face with reality.“What?” I sa

I looked at the bed that I was on and sat up on the bed.“Where is Emily?” I wondered out loud.A small smile appeared on my face as I remembered how we'd make love previously. It was something that I could never get out of my head no matter what.I was about to leave the room when I noticed something on the side of the bed. I walked over to it and saw that it was a bowl that consisted of tools to disember something… or someone. It finally clicked. Beth gave me a bowl to drink previously and after drinking, I became like this. I touched my stomach, wondering exactly what she put in it.I rushed to the living room only to see Beth sitting on a stool, relaxing.“Beth,” I said. The moment she turned to me, I saw shock, surprise and fear in her eyes, all at once.“Fayne, h-how are you still alive?” She started to stumble back as I walked forward towards her.“What do you mean, how am I still alive?
