Chapter 3

(Evelyn’s POV)

“Mr. Alexander Knight, is everything ok? Do you need anything?” My manager came beside him and he just shook his head without leaving eye contact with me as if he was trying to figure something out. Then, he quietly entered the lift and pressed the button on the 15th floor, which is the highest and VIP floor in this hotel.

Alexander stood beside me with an aura that exudes confidence and authoritative nature making me feel suffocated even in this big lift. My hands that were holding the cleaning cloth started trembling the moment his sharp eyes looked at me again and I tried my best to ignore it but the storm that was going on inside me was not at all controllable.

As soon as I reached my floor, I walked out fast with the cleaning stuff. But the whole time I worked my mind was just thinking about Alexander, especially his eyes. I couldn't place where I had seen those eyes before, but I had the feeling that I surely did.

“Are you done Evelyn?” Mia came beside me after finishing her work.

“Yeah, let’s go” we both walked together to the bus stop and the whole time I was agitated to tell her everything that happened with Alexander but I myself was not sure about my own thoughts.

After some time, I entered my home, went to my room, changed, and immediately tucked into the bed. Every night I dream about the shadow that I saw on the day of the accident and those golden eyes feeling as if there is some connection between the two but today something different happened. I screamed and stood up, perspiring profusely, as soon as the shadowy figure transformed into Alexander with the same golden eyes.

After controlling my breathing down, I saw the time and it was 7 am, so I immediately got up, took a bath, changed my clothes and went straight downstairs. 

“Good morning, Rain” I said to the nurse who takes care of my mom and walked towards the coffee machine and made one for me.

“Good morning Evelyn, how was your day yesterday?” she asked while preparing mom’s breakfast.

“As usual, nothing special” I said in a flat tone without letting her know about the turmoil that’s going on in my mind because of a specific man and took a sip from my coffee.

“How is mom doing?” Rain got still the moment I spoke.

“Doctor says she is getting better physically but… there is no improvement…in her mental health” she looked at me sympathetically while telling all the details and I walked out immediately towards my mom’s room.

“Mom!” I entered her room quietly and saw her reading a book in the bed with her round glasses on.

“Uh…Evelyn?” she said before thinking of my name. 

“Yes mom, how are you feeling? Is Rain taking good care of you?” I sat beside her while resting my head on her shoulder and caressing her hand like she used to do when I was child, trying my best to not cry. 

“I am good and Rain is a wonderful girl” she said with a small smile on her face which was more than ok for me.

“Then, let’s go and meet dad after you have your breakfast, ok?” I saw the biggest smile on her face when she heard about dad, who is the only person she remembers.

I informed Marie about getting a little late and went into the living room seeing mom and Rain are ready for the hospital visit. 

“Mom, you stay here and talk with dad. I’ll go and see the doctor” when we reached the hospital, mom immediately ran towards his room.

“Hello doctor, how is my dad’s condition?”

“Evelyn, the situation is the same, there is no improvement child… and I will still ask, do you want to continue this?” He kept a hand on my shoulder for comfort when I  heard him ask the same question again.

“Ofcourse, till he is breathing. Thank you” and went back to the room with the empty feeling that I experienced after hearing the doctor say the same thing for the last 10 years. 

“Mom, dad is fine. He is just sleeping. I asked Dr. and… he said my dad will wake up soon” I hugged her the moment tears flowed from her eyes and she held his hand. This is one thing that no child ever wants to see, a broken family.

After like two hours, I dropped both Rain and mom at home and went away to start my day. Everything was going normal as usual but today, at the hotel I got the job to clean the VIP floor for the first time since I joined 3 months back. 

“Evelyn, pls can you clean room no. 154. I have to attend an urgent call. Plsss” the assigned attendant with me begged when her phone rang and I agreed. 

When I entered the room, it was deserted. I was cleaning when the door opened since I was so concentrated on my work.

“What are you doing?” a deep voice flowed in the silent room from behind, scaring me a little. 

“... Cleaning s-sir” As I tilt back, my voice got stuck after seeing Alexander standing in front of me, wearing jeans and t-shirt that stuck to his body tightly showing every muscle of his.

For a time being, I thought that he was enjoying being checked out by me as he did not utter a word.

“Have you cleaned my bedroom?” he broke the silence with an authoritative voice of his taking me out of my trance and a shiver ran down my spine for a second. 

“Y-Yes sir” and he went straight into his bedroom. After getting my composure back I resumed my work. 

“Ms., pls come here” after a few minutes, I suddenly heard his voice and panicked.

As soon as I entered the bedroom I saw him standing there looking directly at me without any emotion on his face and got scared…
