Chapter 64

“Are you alone?” Beta Richard asked Steve through the phone.

“Not really, sir.”

“What do you mean? Who is with you?” Beta Richard asked him.

“Megan is with me.” Steve answered, and Megan’s eyes widened.

“What is going on?” She silently mouthed so that Beta Richard wouldn't hear her voice.

“On speaker.” Megan silently mouthed again and Steve put the phone on loudspeaker, so they all could hear what Beta Richard was saying to him.

“Just Megan? Are you sure there is no one else with you?” He asked again and this time, it was Veronica's turn to be shocked.

Steve and Megan's eyes slowly turned in Veronica’s direction. Her eyes widened as she held her breath as if he would be able to hear her breathing from where he was.

“Steve? Are you still there?” Beta Richard asked, noticing the sudden silence.

“Yes sir. I'm still here.” Steve quickly answered to avoid any suspicions.

“Why did it take you so long to answer?” He questioned him.
