As Steve approached the door, he began thinking about what Veronica said. Could he truly be in trouble this time?

“I haven't done anything wrong this time. As a matter of fact, I just got out of the dungeon.” He thought to himself.

“Who is there?” He asked as he got to the door but there was no response.

He peeped through the peephole, but there was no one in view.

“Is this a prank or something?” He hissed and turned to go back in without opening the door.

As he got back into the room, Veronica, who had been waiting anxiously, asked him with a very low tone, “Who was it?”

“I don't know.” He shrugged, taking his seat beside her. “No one answered me.” He added.

“Didn't you open the door to check?” She asked him, but he shook his head.

“I didn't. I asked who was there but no one responded. Maybe it was just a prank.” He replied, shrugging again.

“You can't be so sure. What if someone is actually out there waiting to see you?” She asked, with an unsettled look on her face.

“Are you sick?” Veronica and Steve asked in unison.“What happened? Are you okay?” Veronica asked further, her face filled with concern.“Guys, calm down. I'm not sick.” Megan said with a slight smile.“What do you mean? Then why did you go to the hospital?” Steve queried, giving her no space to reply.“Are you going to calm down, and let me explain or what?” She rolled her eyes at him.“Please, I think you should just let her tell us what happened.” Veronica said, with her calm voice.“Yes, thank you, Vee.” She uttered in agreement with Veronica. She then turned to Steve, “You heard her. Calm down and let me talk. Why are you always in a hurry? Huh!” She flashed her tongue at him and Veronica laughed.“Fine. Explain. We're all ears.” Steve said with a frown.“So I went to see Trey.” She revealed, shocking both Steve and Veronica.“You did what?” Steve sat up, he couldn't believe his ears.“Please calm down and let me explain.” She quickly said as she realized he wasn't taking the ne

Steve's heart skipped a beat. “What have I done this time?” He thought to himself as he sighed and slowly opened the door.“Good day sir.” The guards greeted him in unison and he nodded in acknowledgement.“The Alpha has requested your presence, sir.” One of the guards reiterated.“I'm not deaf, I heard you the first time.” Steve replied, coldly.“I'm sorry sir.” He apologized.“Do I have to go with you this time around? Or can I at least go in my car?” Steve asked them, because he remembered that the last time they were at his house, they insisted that he had to go with them and not in his car.“You can go in your car, sir. We were only told to inform you.” They said to him and he nodded.“Fine then. I'll be there soon.” He said, and they left immediately.Seeing them leave, Steve immediately went back into the house to grab his car keys.“What happened now? Were those the palace guards?” Megan asked immediately Steve approached them, and he nodded in response. She and Veronica had b

Steve got home to Veronica and Megan, waiting for him. He had been gone for almost an hour and they were beginning to get worried that something unusual might have happened to him.As soon as he got into the house, they rushed to him, their faces filled with concern and worry as they expected news from him.“So? How did it go? Are you in trouble?” Megan quickly asked in a rush.“Why do you keep talking about me being in trouble?” He asked her, shaking his head.“Sorry. That's just what came to my mind. You can't really blame me.” She replied and he furrowed his brows.“So, I'm a troublemaker. Is that what you're saying?” He queried and walked off to take his seat.“No,” Veronica immediately intervened before it was blown out of proportion. “I'm sure that is not what she meant, right Megan?” She said, turning to Megan, who nodded in agreement.“Okay, if you say so.” Steve agreed and took out his phone and began scrolling through it, while Megan kept standing in front of him while he wa

“Are you alone?” Beta Richard asked Steve through the phone.“Not really, sir.”“What do you mean? Who is with you?” Beta Richard asked him.“Megan is with me.” Steve answered, and Megan’s eyes widened.“What is going on?” She silently mouthed so that Beta Richard wouldn't hear her voice.“On speaker.” Megan silently mouthed again and Steve put the phone on loudspeaker, so they all could hear what Beta Richard was saying to him.“Just Megan? Are you sure there is no one else with you?” He asked again and this time, it was Veronica's turn to be shocked. Steve and Megan's eyes slowly turned in Veronica’s direction. Her eyes widened as she held her breath as if he would be able to hear her breathing from where he was.“Steve? Are you still there?” Beta Richard asked, noticing the sudden silence.“Yes sir. I'm still here.” Steve quickly answered to avoid any suspicions.“Why did it take you so long to answer?” He questioned him.“I'm sorry, sir. I was doing something when your call came

“I'll see you later. I can't tell exactly when though, but I'll see you some other time.” She said as she hurriedly grabbed her keys. “I'm so sorry I'm rushing. I told my dad that I wasn't going to stay too long and seeing his call now, I know I have stayed longer than I should have.” She explained why she was rushing. Veronica nodded, “It's fine. I understand.”“You'll be fine on your own right?” Megan asked her, as she walked towards the door.“Yes, I will. Stay safe.” Veronica answered her as she followed her, but as soon as she got to a couple of steps before the door, she stopped and waved at Megan from there.Megan opened the door, stepped out and locked the door from outside, leaving Veronica alone in the house once again.“Phew!” Veronica sighed quietly as she made her way back into the living room, clearing up the cup Steve had used earlier. She then headed back into the room. She laid on the bed, wondering what it felt like, having friends once again. She really loved the

The sound of clanging kitchen utensils disrupted the morning silence, waking Veronica from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes with her hands to rub off the remnant of sleep from her eyes. She yawned quietly and sat up.As she sat up, the aroma of freshly made food made its way into her room. “Is Steve cooking?” She asked herself and got up, heading for the kitchen.“Wow, someone's up early.” She commented as she saw him dishing out the food into two plates.Hearing her voice, Steve turned to her, “You’re up? Good morning.”She nodded and yawned again, covering her mouth, “Good morning.”“Why are you up so early?” She asked him and he smiled.“Come on, let's eat. I made breakfast and the table is set.” He said as he led the way out of the kitchen, to the dining area, and she followed him.As they settled down at opposite ends of the table, she said to him, “But you've not answered me. Why are you up so early?”“Why do you keep asking like I never wake up early though?” He inquired.“Maybe

“This is how far I can go with you.” Beta Richard said to Steve as they got to the pack's borders. “I can't go any further.” He added.Beta Richard’s expression turned serious, his tone firm too. He stepped closer to Steve's, leaning in as he spoke into his ear, “You know what is at stake here. The pack's future is in your hands, please don't disappoint us. I'm sure you know what you need to do already.”“Yes, I do sir. Thank you so much for your trust in me. I promise you that I won't disappoint. I'll do everything I'm supposed to do and make you proud.” Steve assured him, and Beta Richard nodded, a little smile on his face.“Throughout your journey, always remind yourself that you are not only doing this for yourself, but you're doing it for your people too.” Beta Richard placed a reassuring hand on Steve's right shoulder.“From here on, you're on your own. A lot of distractions might come your way, but remain focused. Be very careful and remember everything I have said. Follow ever

Scott, half awake, walked off to his parent's room in the very early hours of the morning, with baggy eyes. He yawned as he made his way to their door. Getting to the door, he knocked.“Yes, who is it?” It was his mum, Beta Lily's soft voice who responded.“It's me, Scott.” He answered, stretching himself quietly.“Come on in.” She said quickly and he gently began to open the door and walked in.“Good morning, mum. Good morning, dad.” He greeted them as he walked to his mum's side of the bed. She sat up and gently pulled him into her embrace.“Hi, my love. It's barely morning.” Beta Lily responded, giving him a kiss on his forehead.“Hello, champ.” Beta Richard replied, sitting up as he yawned, quietly.“Are you okay?” She asked, concerned. “You're up at this time, and you look like you barely slept a wink throughout the night.” She added, observing and staring at him. “Did you sleep well at all?” She asked again.“No.” He answered honestly as he rubbed his eyes with his hands.“No?

Please let me go.” She replied, her voice breaking and her eyes welling up with tears.“You can't just go like that. You know what? Just calm down, and wait.” He said, his voice laced with concern.“No, I can't wait. I can't just stay calm, do nothing. He might have just slipped into unconsciousness.” One of the guards said in a rush.“Yes, yes. Let's take him to the hospital. Why would he do such a thing to me after everything we have been through all these years. After all that we've shared. How can he choose a complete stranger over me?” She cried angrily.“Wait, what?!” Her father stared at her in utter shock. “So this whole anger and violence is because he chose someone else over you?” He couldn't believe what he had just heard his daughter say.“Oh my goodness! For hours after Megan left, Steve sat in a chair, still dumbfounded, and unable to compose himself. He couldn't wrap his head around what had just happened. He couldn't believe that the one true friend he had literally all his life was in love with him and he didn't know.“Damn! I'm such a fool. I really am.” He muttered to himself, beating himself up about it.Even though they fought and disagreed about a lot of things, a lot of times, he still really cared about Megan, and always looked out for her all the time, and she did the same too, or so he thought. He remembered all the time when they would get into trouble when they were younger, and how they would smartly figure out a way out of every mess they got themselves into. After his mother passed away and he was depressed and hurt, Megan was the one who didn't make him feel alone, because she was always there to comfort him. And that was one of the reasons why their friendship grew stronger over the years. But now, it seemed like t

What are you going on about?” Megan’s eyes soon blazed with tears. “You're really choosing her over me, aren't you?” Her voice cracked, as she asked again.Steve's expression softened, unaware of the depth of Megan’s emotions, and unable to understand why she kept repeating the same words. “Megan, what is all this? You've been repeating these same exact words for the past few minutes. What exactly is the matter?
