Alright, Hailey. Just knock and get this over with. I told myself as I stood in front of the student council room. After I sent the text to Sandy, she immediately replied and told me to go to the student council room before classes start.
My fist shook as I readied myself to knock on their door. Then I suddenly changed my mind and withdrew my hand back.
This is a bad idea. I just know it. I thought and I couldn't agree more with myself. But it's not like I could back away from this either. My mom's runway project depends on their participation and if my mom can't convince them then at least I'd give it a shot.
After all, it's better to do something than nothing at all. As much as I hate the idea of asking them for help, I'm doing this for my mom.
I gulp and brought my fist down to knock. I heard footsteps from the other side and panic immediately seized me.
Crap crap crap crap!!!
It was like my body has a mind of its own and I started to run away from the door and hid in a corner. I peaked from the wall only to see the door open. I saw Sheen looking outside and I ducked my head so I wouldn't be seen. Sheen scratched the back of his head before he closed the door once again.
Coward.
I told myself. Why am I even afraid of it? It's not like they are going to kill me. I stood in front of the door again and knocked. But like before, I cowered and hid in the same corner while Sandy was the one who opened the door before closing it again when she saw no one.
Ugh!!! What am I doing!? Get it together, Hailey!! Quit playing!!
I took a deep breath as I collected myself. I stood in front of the room again and slapped my cheeks. This is it, okay? No more running. I swear it. I raised my fist ready to knock. Here goes nothing.
Knock knock knock.
I heard someone grumble from the other side before I heard the approaching footsteps. This time, I stood my ground and balled my hands into a fist.
No more running. No more running.
Then I heard the door being unlocked and I started to let out a nervous laugh.
Who am I kidding? I can't do this. I'm a coward in real life.
Having that in mind, I started to turn around and run when I felt someone pull on my ponytail as I started to run.
"Ow ow ow!!! Hey!!" I yelled, trying to grab ahold of the hand pulling on my hair.
"So you were the one who keeps on knocking on the door. If you want to come in then just say so." Xander said. His face neutral as if he already knew I was the culprit. He lets go of my hair and grabbed my arm so I wouldn't escape before he dragged me inside the room. "Sheen, I caught the ghost that you were talking about."
"Let me go!!" I pulled my myself free from Xander's grasp and glared at him. He didn't seem to notice and went to sit on the couch of the room. Opposite the couch that he was sitting on was another couch where Sheen and Sandy were sitting. At the very front of the room was an office table where Leo sat.
I stood awkwardly at the front as they all stared at me."Morning, Hailey." She beamed. "Have a seat. We've been waiting for you." Sandy grinned and motioned for me to take a seat beside Xander.
"Uh hu...." I said and looked hesitantly at the spot beside Xander, who sat lazily on the couch as he placed an open book to his face. Leo must have noticed my concern because he gave me an encouraging smile.
"Don't worry. He won't bite." He said.
I blushed and nodded as I proceeded to the spot next to Xander. But as soon as I came near, he placed his foot on the vacant spot on the couch. He removed the book from his face and gave me a lazy smirk making me hate his gut even more. "Yes?" He asked, feigning innocence.
So he wants to play? Alright then. I'll play with his game. I smiled sweetly at him and felt my left eye twitch in the process."Excuse me but can you move your foot?"
"Oh." He said. Still with that fake innocence that makes me want to puke. "Sorry but this seat is already taken."
"By who?"
"By my foot." He smirked. "You see, I ran on my way here and I'm very tired." As if emphasizing his words, he stretches out his legs even more and yawned before sinking lower into the couch.
He really won't let me sit, won't he?
I felt a vein pop in annoyance and I unconsciously cracked my knuckles. Without even thinking, I grabbed his foot and pulled him off of the couch. "Move!!!" I yelled.
The look on his face when I pulled him off the couch was priceless. It was a mixture of surprise and disbelief as he tried to grab ahold of the couch so he wouldn't fall. I heard Sheen laughing his butt off in the background.
"The fuck!” He let out a curse and pulled himself back on the couch. He was glaring at me. "What the heck!? Are you an animal or something?"
"Something.” I answered “Now, move!!"
"No!!"
I crossed my arms over my chest and raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you sure?"
He scoffed and rolled his eyes at me. "Sit on the floor if you want. It's clean anyway." With that, he rolled and turned his back from me.
Lazy bum. He'll pay for that.
With that, I moved to the back of the couch as I looked at Xander with his face buried to the couch. I smirked and kicked the back of the couch making it toppling forward. Xander let out a yell as he fell on the floor. If ever, Sheen laughed harder while I took that opportunity as I jumped on the couch.
Looking at Xander on the floor, I gave him a smug look as I stuck my tongue out at him. His face turned red in rage and hatred as he looked at me. And before I knew it, he started to pull me off of the couch as he pulled my arm. But we all know that I was too stubborn for my own good. And because of that, I bit his arm.
"Ow!!!" He pulled his hand back. "You bit me!! What are you, an animal?!"
"Psh! Boy, have you look in the mirror lately?" I replied.
Xander gritted his teeth in anger while I gave him an icy look. Leo cleared his throat loudly catching our attention. Despite the seriousness of his face, I could see the slight amusement in his eyes. "Shall we head to business?"
"We should really keep her. She's fun." Sheen said to Sandy earning an elbow from her.
Realizing what I did, I suddenly felt embarrassed and felt my cheeks burning red. I sat down properly while Xander grumbled and took a seat beside me. Leo shifted on his seat looking all professional as he fixed me a friendly and welcoming gaze. "Miss Hailey," He started. "I heard from Sandy that you wanted to speak with us?"
Numbly I nodded.
"What is it about?"
"It's..." I hesitated, but when I saw Leo nodding at me in encouragement, I continued. "It's about....a favor that...I want to ask you guys actually."
Leo raised his eyebrow in curiosity while Xander let out an exasperated sigh beside me. "So all of this for a favor? We ain't doing charity here." He said.
"Xander." warned Leo as he gave him a look before looking back at me. "What kind of favor, miss Hailey?"
Okay, this is it. Heck is about to break loose.
I took in a deep breath.
"My-mother-is-going-to-have-a-runway-project-and-the-sponsors-would-like-have-the-padorgriffs-to-model-for-them-so-much-that-if-my-mom-can't-get-them-she-won't-get-the-sponsor-and-she-would-have-to-cancel-her-show-which-she-really-worked-hard-for-so-that's-why-I'm-swallowing-my-pride-to-ask-you-this-favor-to-PLEASE-SAY-YES!!" I said it all so quickly and in one breath that I back to suck in big ounces of air after that.
No one said a word for a few minutes as they processed what I had just said. Finally, Sandy broke the silence. "Um.... Could you repeat that?" She said.
"I think she was courting us or something." Said Sheen.
Beside me, I saw Xander roll his eyes. "You guys deaf or something? She said that she wants us to model for her mother's runway." Sandy and Sheen's mouth formed an 'O' as they got his words.
I sat nervously and played with the hem of my skirt as I asked them, "So, would you guys help me?"
Sandy looked at Sheen, Sheen looked at Leo, and Leo was just about to talk when Xander beat him to it. "Heck no." He said with a frown directed at me. "What makes you think we'll help you?"
"Because I know your secret?" Apparently it was the wrong answer because Xander's eyes suddenly darkened.
"Are you trying to blackmail us?"
"What? No! I won't!! I was just-"
"Then what!?"
"Hey, I was about to explain but you cut me off. So why don't you just shut up and put your sock into your mouth before I break your jaw?" Seriously, I think Xander's annoying meter just went over the top.
He needs to be disposed of.
"Hailey." I turned to Leo, who was giving me an apologetic look. "As much as I hate to say it, but Xander is right. We can't model for your mother's runway. Not only do we have obligations as student councils but we also have our career as The Pandorgriffs."
My heart sank at his words. I appreciate how Leo used his words carefully to explain to me the reason why they can't help. I mean, sure, I should have known that they wouldn't have the time for helping my mom's project. They live a double life after all. I should have expected this, that way, I wouldn't have come and face this awkward situation.
But urg!! This is so frustrating!!
Looking away, I pretended to be interested at something on the table. I don't think I could look up and let them see my face. I willed my cool girl side to appear but only a fraction of her made an appearance and it was enough for me to finally look up and keep a calm face.
"I understand." I nodded, surprised at how my voice didn't falter but it was still missing an edge to it. I got up from the couch and turned to face them. "Well, thank you for listening to my request, but I think I must be going now. See you guys later." Just before I left, I smiled at them just so they won't say that I'm bitter or holding any grudges against them.
But to be honest? I'm a little bitter and frustrated.
Before they could say anything more, I was already out of their room and swiftly made my way to my next class. After what just happened and base on how quickly I took off, I don't think I have a face to show them for a while.
The whole morning during class, I avoided making eye contact with them. It was embarrassing and awkward at the same time. Luckily, they didn't bother to talk to me. I guess it was because of their promise not to speak to me unless I initiate the conversation. And I can't say that I am not happy about that. When lunch came, I was afraid to go out and eat at my spot under the tree in fear that they would be there. So instead, I went to eat at the cafeteria at my reserved table. I, of course, brought my own lunch with me. After the soup thing on the first day, I don't trust the cafeteria for edible foods anymore. As usual, I was alone at my table as I silently and slowly ate my lunch, chicken sandwich, and an apple.I heard a crash and I immediately looked up to see where the noise was coming from.
Chapter 17As soon as we got there, I started to regret my decision. "You can go with Sandy to her private dressing room. You can use the bathroom there." Said Leo."You guys have private rooms?" I ask in bewilderment. They all paused and stared at me as if I was stupid. Then I suddenly remembered that they are The Pandorgriffs and it all suddenly made sense. "Of course. Sorry for asking." I muttered.I followed Sandy to the far left side of the room and opened the door as she ushered me in. Inside, I felt like I was inside a Hannah Montana closet. On the walls were racks filled with shoes and clothes. A mini crystal chandelier hung in the middle. At the center of the room was a huge round bed with red bed sheets.
The next day, after I made the deal with the student council, there was a ceremony the next morning. Of course, it was held by the student councils and none of us knew what it was. But all I heard was that it was something important that all the students of Waynard High must witness.I let out an irritated sigh. It's been 15 minutes since we were called down to wait and I'm getting bored. This better be worth it or else!!!Looking around me, it seems as if I was the only one feeling irritated. The other students seemed pretty excited about this ceremony that they are planning. I was on the verge of throwing small papers at the students and blame them on the person next to me just to cause a scene but noooo.....cool Hailey won't allow it.Killjoy."Students, may we
As soon as we got into the student council room, Xander made me sit on one of the couches while he and the rest of the members looked down on me, which I really don't appreciate. The way that they were looking at me was as if I was someone who was crazy or something."What?" I frowned when they look at me for too long. "What is it?"Leo shook his head. "I don't even know where to start." He said and took in a deep breath before looking at me again. "But I am going to ask this though. Why would you put that guy in the locker?"I thought back at the event earlier and I shrugged. "Why not?""Miss Collins, you can't just put people inside lockers for no reason.""Well, that guy sure did that to the nerd. Why can't I?"
"Waldo?" The guy asked in disbelief. "Seriously?"Play your part, Hailey. Come on.I placed a hand on my hip as I looked at him. I let a little of my cool girl character slip to help me with the act. "Got a problem with that?"The guy suddenly cleared his throat and shook his head. "Uh...no. Sorry. It's just an...unusual name." He said. "My name is Romeo."...Romeo? Like in Romeo and Juliet?Wow. And he had the audacity about questioning the name Waldo."Nice to meet you, R-Romeo." I nodded as I tried to keep a cool face even though I badly wanted to laugh. It's hard not to say his name without laughing. But I have to keep it all in.
"Mom, why am I here?" I asked. Today after school, my mother texted me to come to her office along with the Pandorgriffs. After the contract has been signed yesterday I thought for sure that my job here was done, but nooo! She just has to call me here.Sure we don't have classes today since the teachers have a seminar or something, but that doesn't mean that she can just take that little happiness of mine and call me here.Boo!My mother only frowned. "I asked you yesterday to help with the preparation for the fashion show and you agreed, but clearly you were not listening." She was handing me clothes that were supposed to be the ones that The Pandrogriffs were about to showcase.
"Hailey, I promise we can pull this off." Said Sophie with a sweet and honest smile on her face. "We just need someone to teach us." She then gave me a hopeful look as did the rest of them.Well, almost because Gabrielle was too busy looking away and cursing under his breath.I rubbed the back of my neck as I heaved a sigh. "This was not part of our deal, but if it means that you will be able to fulfill then alright. I'll help." I said defeatedly while the rest of them cheered in glee."Hailey, do you have any experience walking on fashion shows?" Kevin asked. At that question, I averted my gaze. "A long time ago." I answered shortly before returning my gaze at them. "Alright. Stand back and watch the pro." I started forward and headed to the back of the stage wher
Joining the fashion show was never ever on my bucket list or life goals. Believe me. I don't want to join any fashion show again. But who was I to refuse? With my mother's dazzled eyes and the nonstop persuasiveness of her workers, I was left with no choice but to enter. Not as Hailey though(thank goodness) but as the witch named Felisha Hughes. You know, the cursed pink wig?Yeah. That's her.And since the purpose of me becoming Felisha is to hide my identity, the only people who knows about my secret is my parents, Kaila, some trusted employees, and of course the student councils.Days and weeks have passed. The rehearsals, diet, and fitting almost consumed all of my scheduled free time especially since I have to shar
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
