The whole morning during class, I avoided making eye contact with them. It was embarrassing and awkward at the same time. Luckily, they didn't bother to talk to me. I guess it was because of their promise not to speak to me unless I initiate the conversation. And I can't say that I am not happy about that.
When lunch came, I was afraid to go out and eat at my spot under the tree in fear that they would be there. So instead, I went to eat at the cafeteria at my reserved table. I, of course, brought my own lunch with me. After the soup thing on the first day, I don't trust the cafeteria for edible foods anymore.
As usual, I was alone at my table as I silently and slowly ate my lunch, chicken sandwich, and an apple.
I heard a crash and I immediately looked up to see where the noise was coming from. It was coming from the nerds’ table. Apparently, there was a commotion going on as a group of jock guys stood by their table and were laughing. They were laughing at one of the male nerds in the group who had a bowl of something on top of his head. The weird something from the bowl - I don't know what it is or if it is even edible - dripped down the boy's face and onto his checkered polo.
"And that's what happens when you don't make my physics report, nerd." Said one of the jocks as he knocked the bowl off the nerds head. The jocks continued to laugh and tormented the other nerds on the table.
I huffed and rolled my eyes at the scene. On usual occasions, I would have intervened just for fun, but since I wasn't in the mood for such, I just went back to my business and finished my food. Seriously, you'd think that kind of scene happens only in movies, but nooo, even mean girls exist. I don't know what's happening to Waynard High but there sure is a lot of drama here in the school cafeteria. It sure is pretty annoying.
Do you think it's too late to transfer schools?
There was a screech and a crash as a chair fell on the floor. When I look up, I saw one of the nerds - a guy with shaggy brown hair and silver eyes - looking pissed as he got off of his seat. One of the jock stepped in front and looked at the nerd with a smirk on his face. It was Tyler. "Look, guys. I think we might have pissed him off." Mocked Tyler as his friends laughed.
"Please leave." Said the nerd.
"Oh no, I think he's gonna cry and tell his mommy." Tyler pinched the nerd's cheek and pushed him back. The nerd faltered but he was able to recover by leaning on the table.
"Enough, Tyler." Nerd said, looking at Tyler straight in the eye. I have to give it to him, that was a pretty bold move. "You've been tormenting us for years! Haven't you had enough?!"
Tyler grinned and pulled the nerd by the collar. "Nope. Things are just about to get real." It all happened too fast. Just as Tyler pulled his fist back for a punch, the nerd acted fast and grabbed the nearest tray and threw it at Tyler. There was a clatter as the tray fell on the floor and all its contents now on Tyler.
There was a dead silence that followed that you could even hear a pencil falling on the floor. They were starring wide eye and nervously at the groups on the nerd table, anticipating what would happen next. I, on the other hand, found myself grinning in amusement at what I have just seen.
Cool!! Real-life action! I take it back. I love this school and I was so stupid for even thinking of transferring.
"Now," The nerd panted. "You know what it feels like to have someone's food thrown at you." As soon as he said it, only one thing came to my mind. The thing dripping from the other nerd's head is food? I thought it was goo.
"Yes." Agreed Tyler, as he wiped some of the goo off of his face. "And now you'll feel what it feels like to get beaten up." The next thing that happened was so awesome that I wanted to laugh out loud and clap my hands in amusement as the jocks started to attack the nerds, but the nerds threw their food at them. Some hit the jocks, but the others have a bad aim that it hit the other tables. Soon, there was a full-on food fight in the cafeteria, and foods were flying in different direction.
I love this school so much!!! Waynard High is love, Waynard High is life!
"Students!! Enough!!" Someone yelled but no one seemed to pay attention to him, except me who was probably the only one sitting at my table and minding my own business.
Standing at the entrance of the cafeteria, stood the student council. Leo was shouting and ordering to students to stop, Xander was helping him, Sheen was looking amused while Sandy looked shock.
Oh well. Here comes the killjoys.
I watch in dismay as they started to go deeper into the battlefield to try and stop the war. But whatever they were doing seemed futile seeing as how the students seemed to ignore them. I even saw Xander trying to break up two girls from pulling each other's hair out while Sandy was holding a tray up as a shield and tried to coax them to stop. On the opposite side corner, Sheen and Leo were pulling two boys apart as they tried to brawl.
Whatever I was seeing at that moment was unexpected and certainly unrealistic. Is it me or are the students ignoring the beloved student council? If they are then......BEST.DAY.EVER!!
I almost choked on my apple when I saw how pathetic they looked in the situation. One of the female students threw a pie in the air and landed on Sandy's hair. She let out a shrill of horror and as she touched her hair.
"My hair!!!" She shrieked.
Sheen turned to Sandy and barked a laugh when he saw her."Haha!! Nice hairdo, San. Where'd you get it? At the bakery? Pft!!" Sandy glared at Sheen and grabbed a ketchup bottle and squirted the contents on Sheen.
Sandy and Sheen are out. That only leaves Leo and Xander to take care of the matters then. But looking at the president and his vice, I could say that they weren't exactly handling it well.
SPLAT!!
I felt something cold drip down from my neck and I froze and felt the thing behind me only to find out that it was spaghetti.
Ugh!!!
I started to check myself only to find out that my uniform was stained red with spaghetti sauce. A vein popped on my head and I could feel my cool self taking over.
WHAT.THE.HECK!?!?!? This is so not fun anymore!!
"ENOUGH!!!" I got up from my seat and screamed at the top of my lungs. My voice lacing with fury as I looked at the commotion in front of me. I picked up and slammed a random frying pan on my table to get their attention.
Don't even ask me where I got the pan since I could think of plenty of reasons where this came from. But let's just assume that the cook saw the fight and decided to join.
Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I find a knife somewhere.
Almost instantly, the fighting seized. It was like someone hit a pause button as they all froze and looked at me. As soon as they saw me, their eyes widened in fear and I could hear a few collective gasps in the background.
My hands were still balled into a fist in anger at being hit by pasta. I mean, don't get me wrong I love food fights as long as I am not part of it. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!? ANIMALS!? CLEAN UP THE CAFETERIA AND HEAD BACK TO YOUR SEATS. NOW!!!" The students didn't hesitate as they all scrambled to their feet and started to clean up. I even saw one of the cooks pouting to help the cleanup.
Meanwhile, I turned around to look for the culprit who threw the pasta at me. Tyler was looking at me nervously and I suddenly knew that it was him. Frowning, I marched towards him and grabbed him by the collar before he could escape. "H-Hailey, I'm s-so-sorry. I didn't mean it. I swear!!"
"I didn't even ask anything yet." I said coldly. "But hearing that from you only confirmed my suspicion."
"I really didn't mean it!! I'm so sorry!!" The look on the bully's face was so pathetic and helpless if you compare him to the way he acted earlier. It was embarrassing that I couldn't stomach him.
Grunting, I let him go with a push. "Go and help with the clean-up."
"Y-yes ma'am!!" I turned around and started to head back to my table. I didn't need to look back to know that Tyler was helping with the clean-up after seeing the look on his face.
Heck, if he doesn't want any trouble then he'll do as I say. Wimp.
I started to grab my things and was just about to leave when I saw the student council members blocking my way. They looked ridiculous with a bunch of stains and greases on their uniform, face, and hair. I think I even saw a plastic spoon perched on top of Xander's head. If I wasn't pissed right now I would laugh."What?" I ask, not bothering to be polite or anything.
I watched as Sandy took a step towards me and grabbed my hand. "You look like crap. Let's clean up. I have extra uniforms with me back in the room."
"No thanks. I can go home." I started to walk away put Sandy's grip on me was firm. I turned to give her a warning look in which she countered with a sweet-sinister smile on her face that sent shivers down my spine.
You know that smile your mother gives you that says that she's going to kill you but you’re in public so it'll have to wait till later? Yeah, that's the one. I swear, I think she's even scarier than the cool Hailey.
I gulped. Without thinking. "S-sure. I don't want to be late anyway."
With that, I followed them out of the cafeteria and back into the SC room.
Chapter 17As soon as we got there, I started to regret my decision. "You can go with Sandy to her private dressing room. You can use the bathroom there." Said Leo."You guys have private rooms?" I ask in bewilderment. They all paused and stared at me as if I was stupid. Then I suddenly remembered that they are The Pandorgriffs and it all suddenly made sense. "Of course. Sorry for asking." I muttered.I followed Sandy to the far left side of the room and opened the door as she ushered me in. Inside, I felt like I was inside a Hannah Montana closet. On the walls were racks filled with shoes and clothes. A mini crystal chandelier hung in the middle. At the center of the room was a huge round bed with red bed sheets.
The next day, after I made the deal with the student council, there was a ceremony the next morning. Of course, it was held by the student councils and none of us knew what it was. But all I heard was that it was something important that all the students of Waynard High must witness.I let out an irritated sigh. It's been 15 minutes since we were called down to wait and I'm getting bored. This better be worth it or else!!!Looking around me, it seems as if I was the only one feeling irritated. The other students seemed pretty excited about this ceremony that they are planning. I was on the verge of throwing small papers at the students and blame them on the person next to me just to cause a scene but noooo.....cool Hailey won't allow it.Killjoy."Students, may we
As soon as we got into the student council room, Xander made me sit on one of the couches while he and the rest of the members looked down on me, which I really don't appreciate. The way that they were looking at me was as if I was someone who was crazy or something."What?" I frowned when they look at me for too long. "What is it?"Leo shook his head. "I don't even know where to start." He said and took in a deep breath before looking at me again. "But I am going to ask this though. Why would you put that guy in the locker?"I thought back at the event earlier and I shrugged. "Why not?""Miss Collins, you can't just put people inside lockers for no reason.""Well, that guy sure did that to the nerd. Why can't I?"
"Waldo?" The guy asked in disbelief. "Seriously?"Play your part, Hailey. Come on.I placed a hand on my hip as I looked at him. I let a little of my cool girl character slip to help me with the act. "Got a problem with that?"The guy suddenly cleared his throat and shook his head. "Uh...no. Sorry. It's just an...unusual name." He said. "My name is Romeo."...Romeo? Like in Romeo and Juliet?Wow. And he had the audacity about questioning the name Waldo."Nice to meet you, R-Romeo." I nodded as I tried to keep a cool face even though I badly wanted to laugh. It's hard not to say his name without laughing. But I have to keep it all in.
"Mom, why am I here?" I asked. Today after school, my mother texted me to come to her office along with the Pandorgriffs. After the contract has been signed yesterday I thought for sure that my job here was done, but nooo! She just has to call me here.Sure we don't have classes today since the teachers have a seminar or something, but that doesn't mean that she can just take that little happiness of mine and call me here.Boo!My mother only frowned. "I asked you yesterday to help with the preparation for the fashion show and you agreed, but clearly you were not listening." She was handing me clothes that were supposed to be the ones that The Pandrogriffs were about to showcase.
"Hailey, I promise we can pull this off." Said Sophie with a sweet and honest smile on her face. "We just need someone to teach us." She then gave me a hopeful look as did the rest of them.Well, almost because Gabrielle was too busy looking away and cursing under his breath.I rubbed the back of my neck as I heaved a sigh. "This was not part of our deal, but if it means that you will be able to fulfill then alright. I'll help." I said defeatedly while the rest of them cheered in glee."Hailey, do you have any experience walking on fashion shows?" Kevin asked. At that question, I averted my gaze. "A long time ago." I answered shortly before returning my gaze at them. "Alright. Stand back and watch the pro." I started forward and headed to the back of the stage wher
Joining the fashion show was never ever on my bucket list or life goals. Believe me. I don't want to join any fashion show again. But who was I to refuse? With my mother's dazzled eyes and the nonstop persuasiveness of her workers, I was left with no choice but to enter. Not as Hailey though(thank goodness) but as the witch named Felisha Hughes. You know, the cursed pink wig?Yeah. That's her.And since the purpose of me becoming Felisha is to hide my identity, the only people who knows about my secret is my parents, Kaila, some trusted employees, and of course the student councils.Days and weeks have passed. The rehearsals, diet, and fitting almost consumed all of my scheduled free time especially since I have to shar
"FELISHA!!" Sophie screamed. Her voice laced with excitement that mirrored her beaming face. Her entrance was so sudden that one of the stylists jumped and bumped me from the back making me shove the lipstick into my open mouth. I quickly coughed and pulled the lipstick out only to find out in sheer horror that the tip was gone and I was feeling something stuck in my throat.I began to choke, which caught the attention of everyone in the room but they did nothing to help.Well, save for the panic shouts and screams.Kaila took that perfect time when she entered the room. "What's with all the loud noise?" She asked and her eyes landed on me- coughing and holding my neck - before it landed on the empty lipstick on my hand. "You did not just -" She shook her head and
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
