Chapter 17
As soon as we got there, I started to regret my decision. "You can go with Sandy to her private dressing room. You can use the bathroom there." Said Leo.
"You guys have private rooms?" I ask in bewilderment. They all paused and stared at me as if I was stupid. Then I suddenly remembered that they are The Pandorgriffs and it all suddenly made sense. "Of course. Sorry for asking." I muttered.
I followed Sandy to the far left side of the room and opened the door as she ushered me in. Inside, I felt like I was inside a Hannah Montana closet.
On the walls were racks filled with shoes and clothes. A mini crystal chandelier hung in the middle. At the center of the room was a huge round bed with red bed sheets.
"What the heck!?" I turned to Sandy. "I know you guys are superstars but don't you think this is getting way too overboard!?"
She raised an eyebrow at me after closing the door. "What are you talking about? It's perfectly normal. And besides, we use our own money to have this build."
I gave her a nonchalant look. "Let me guess, you paid the principal for him to allow this setup."
Sandy laugh. "Don't be silly." She shook her head and went through one of her drawers. "Of course the principal said yes. He has no choice. Leo's family owns the school, remember?"
"Oh...yeah...right." Now I just feel stupid.
"Here." Sandy came back and handed me a fresh set of uniforms before pointing at a door to our right. "The bathroom is over there. You can use the shower. The towels are just on the upper shelf. I think you'll be able to see it."
"Er....thanks," I said after taking the clothes from her. "What about you?"
Sandy rolled her eyes and scoffed. "Please. Do you seriously think I only have one bathroom?"
I sighed. With the fancy room and her walk-in closet, why am I not surprised? "Oh right. Super star stuff. Sorry, I asked. Again" With that, I excused myself as I headed for the bathroom. Once I entered, I don't even want to talk about how big it was and how both the shower and toilet have a lot of buttons with Japanese characters on them.
Wow. Fancy.
I locked the bathroom door behind me and place the uniform on one of the clean shelves. I took off my shoes and socks and started to head towards the shower. I still have my uniform on as I looked at the random buttons on the shower. I frowned seeing as I couldn't understand what was written on them.
"Uhhh..." My finger hovered over a green button. I figured that it would be the ‘on’ switch since, you know, it's green and all. I drew my hand back and hesitated.
Maybe I should call Sandy and ask her how this works? I thought but suddenly decided against it.
"Nah." I shrugged. "What's the worst thing that could happen anyway?" Having that in mind, I pressed the green button. Water poured from the shower rapidly completely soaking me.
"Eep!" My fingers flew as I pressed another button. It did not slow the water down, but it sure did made the water turn cold. "MOTHER!!" I screamed and started to press another button, this time making it hot. Panicked, I pressed random buttons and the shower went haywire and kept pouring water on me. Hot, cold, neutral, and back.
"AHH! IT'S BURNING ME, NO!! IT'S COOOLDDD!!! MAKE IT STOP! AHH!" I started to run around, probably wasn't the brightest idea since the floor was wet. I slipped and knocked a few bottles of products on the floor before I landed on my butt and let out a howl of pain. "AAAWOO!"
The door suddenly burst open and Sandy came in only wearing a towel. "Hailey?" When her eyes darted towards me, she gasped. "Hailey!!! Are you alright!?!"
Lying in a heap of bath products, I looked up at her. "Do you really want me to answer that?" I squeaked. Sandy came and help up me.
"Sorry. I should have taught you how to use the shower." She said.
‘You think?’ I wanted to say but the guilty look on her face made me think twice. "It's fine. I waved her off."
"Are you sure?"
I nodded.
"Alright. Umm.......here. Let me turn this on for you." Sandy went in front of the shower and started to press some buttons. "How's this?"
I place a handout and let the water drip on my hand. "It's alright. Thank you."
Sandy smiled. "You’re welcome. If you need anything more, just call."
"Uh.....I do need one more thing."
"What's that?"
I looked away while blushing. I can't believe that I'm saying this!! But I have to!
With a sigh, I looked at Sandy with a serious expression. "Do you have an extra underwear?"
♥♥♥
After the horrifying trip to Sandy's futuristic bathroom, I started to get dressed. Luckily, Sandy has an extra pair of underwear that she gave me. Believe me, she has a drawer full of brand new underwear.
I was already done dressing up and ready to go while Sandy was still blow-drying her hair. As for me, I didn't bother to dry my hair since it takes time. Plus, I'm too lazy to do such kind of stuff.
I got up from her bed and started to head towards the door.
I opened it, expecting the meeting room to be empty, but no. Sheen, Leo, and Xander were there walking around in the room shirtless. They must have sense my presence because they all looked at me at the same time. Unthinkingly, I counted their abs.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8..........
Wordlessly, I went back to Sandy's room and slammed the door shut before leaning on it. Sandy put down her blow dryer and was looking at me with concern. "Hailey, what's wrong?"
"P-Porn stars!!" I yelled and covered my face with my hands as I tried to shake the image of their eight pack out of my mind.
"Oh, for crying out loud." Sandy sighed and pulled me away from the door. "Stay here." She ordered before going out and closing the door behind her.
"How many times must I tell you guys not to walk around shirtless when we have visitors!?!?!" Then I suddenly heard a loud crash outside. Meanwhile, I was starring at the door still thinking about the number eight.
A few seconds later and the door opened once again. Sandy stood there and smiled. "It's okay, they're decent now." She assured me.
Pursing my lips, I got out of the room but not before I grabbed my stuff. At first, I peaked onto the door to see if the boys really are decent. When I saw that they all were now wearing their school shirt complete with the school blazer did I decided to go out.
"Hey, Hailey!!" Sheen greeted me but I ignored him and turned to Leo.
"Thanks for your generosity," I told him coolly.
Leo nodded at me. "You’re welcome. And thank you for stopping the food fight earlier." I looked away and shrugged. "And because of that, you really are the perfect person to be our peace keeper."
I sighed and rolled my eyes. Not this again. "Look, I really appreciate the offer but-"
"Please take the position, Hailey." Sandy said cutting me off.
"Sandy, no." I told her. "Why are you guys so keen on making me the peacekeeper?? It's really annoying." As soon as the world flew from my mouth, silence immediately fell in the room. They were looking at anywhere but me.
They all seemed nervous. Sheen even whistled at the awkward silence now. I was wondering why they were acting so strange until I remembered how they handled the situation in the cafeteria.
I narrowed my eyes suspiciously at them. "Hey wait a minute, don't tell me you guys-" Sandy, Sheen, and Xander suddenly looked at me with wide eyes.
"Wait, Hailey!"
"No!"
"Don't say it!!"
"-you guys suck at handling school fights." As soon as I said it, they all looked at Leo, who was now looking at the floor seeming depressed. Xander came to Leo's side and started to shake him.
"Leo? Hey, Leo. Answer me." When Leo didn't move or responded, he let out a frustrated grunt. "Oh great! He's broken!! I'm in charge now."
"What? Say's who?" Argued Sheen.
"Say's my role. I'm the vice president if you have forgotten."
"This is unacceptable!!"
"Hey. Is Leo doing okay?" I asked, still looking at Leo.
"Now you're asking?" Said Xander giving me an incredulous look. "It's your fault for doing that to him."
"My fault?" I gasp. "I didn't even do anything!!!"
"Well, you had to open your mouth and say that we suck at handling students. Now you offended him."
"How should I know that it would hurt him?!" I said defensively as I glared at Xander.
"You could have been more sensitive!"
"Well, you could have-" Before I could finish, Leo cut me off.
"Alright enough!!" He yelled and pointed a look at me and Xander. Once we were silent, Leo let out a deep breath as if collecting himself. "Miss Collins," He said looking at me. "You are right. We suck at handling school fights. Whenever there's a fight, we always seem to have a hard time fixing it that is why we really need your assistance."
"But I-" I started but he cut me off again as he raised his palm to silence me.
Uhh.....rude.
"Let me finish." He said. "When I ask you to join us, I'm asking you for a favor and in return, we'll accept your offer to be the models for your mother's runway project."
I think I might have gone deaf from what I just heard. Is he really that serious?! No way will he do that, but seeing the look on the faces of his friends I think I heard him right.
"Are you kidding me, Leo?! What the heck are you thinking?!"
"Leo, are you feeling okay?"
"Our manager will surely kill us."
Despite the protest of his friends, Leo's eyes were dead-fixed to mine as he waited for my reply.
I, on the other hand, was feeling a bit uncomfortable with the situation. With a gulp, I looked up at him and gave him a faint smile. "Wow, are you really that desperate?"
He smirked. "Only when I really think that I am making the right choice. What do you say?"
This is it, Hailey! This is it!
I cleared my throat. "Um.......If I do accept your offer, will you promise to see your end of the deal?"
"Yes." He said. I looked into Leo's eyes as I search for a hint of a lie in them, but I saw nothing - only his fierce and determined look.
Could I really trust him?
"Come on! Just say something! We don't have all day to wait for you." Said Xander making me glare at him.
I turned my gaze back at Leo and pointed at Xander. "If I join you, will you see to it that he shut up?"
"Yes."
"And promise me that you won't be bugging me unless it's about my job?"
"Yes."
"And do you swear - pinky swear - that I won't do paper works and boring meetings unless I want to?"
"Paper works are not in the list of duties for peacekeepers so I guess it's a promise."
After he made his promise, I gave him a curt nod and without thinking, I gave him my word. "Good. Then we have a deal." Leo seemed to smile at my response while Sandy let out a glee.
I, on the other hand, have an unsettling feeling in my gut that tells me that the worse of my problems are just about to come and I just hope that I made the right decision.
The next day, after I made the deal with the student council, there was a ceremony the next morning. Of course, it was held by the student councils and none of us knew what it was. But all I heard was that it was something important that all the students of Waynard High must witness.I let out an irritated sigh. It's been 15 minutes since we were called down to wait and I'm getting bored. This better be worth it or else!!!Looking around me, it seems as if I was the only one feeling irritated. The other students seemed pretty excited about this ceremony that they are planning. I was on the verge of throwing small papers at the students and blame them on the person next to me just to cause a scene but noooo.....cool Hailey won't allow it.Killjoy."Students, may we
As soon as we got into the student council room, Xander made me sit on one of the couches while he and the rest of the members looked down on me, which I really don't appreciate. The way that they were looking at me was as if I was someone who was crazy or something."What?" I frowned when they look at me for too long. "What is it?"Leo shook his head. "I don't even know where to start." He said and took in a deep breath before looking at me again. "But I am going to ask this though. Why would you put that guy in the locker?"I thought back at the event earlier and I shrugged. "Why not?""Miss Collins, you can't just put people inside lockers for no reason.""Well, that guy sure did that to the nerd. Why can't I?"
"Waldo?" The guy asked in disbelief. "Seriously?"Play your part, Hailey. Come on.I placed a hand on my hip as I looked at him. I let a little of my cool girl character slip to help me with the act. "Got a problem with that?"The guy suddenly cleared his throat and shook his head. "Uh...no. Sorry. It's just an...unusual name." He said. "My name is Romeo."...Romeo? Like in Romeo and Juliet?Wow. And he had the audacity about questioning the name Waldo."Nice to meet you, R-Romeo." I nodded as I tried to keep a cool face even though I badly wanted to laugh. It's hard not to say his name without laughing. But I have to keep it all in.
"Mom, why am I here?" I asked. Today after school, my mother texted me to come to her office along with the Pandorgriffs. After the contract has been signed yesterday I thought for sure that my job here was done, but nooo! She just has to call me here.Sure we don't have classes today since the teachers have a seminar or something, but that doesn't mean that she can just take that little happiness of mine and call me here.Boo!My mother only frowned. "I asked you yesterday to help with the preparation for the fashion show and you agreed, but clearly you were not listening." She was handing me clothes that were supposed to be the ones that The Pandrogriffs were about to showcase.
"Hailey, I promise we can pull this off." Said Sophie with a sweet and honest smile on her face. "We just need someone to teach us." She then gave me a hopeful look as did the rest of them.Well, almost because Gabrielle was too busy looking away and cursing under his breath.I rubbed the back of my neck as I heaved a sigh. "This was not part of our deal, but if it means that you will be able to fulfill then alright. I'll help." I said defeatedly while the rest of them cheered in glee."Hailey, do you have any experience walking on fashion shows?" Kevin asked. At that question, I averted my gaze. "A long time ago." I answered shortly before returning my gaze at them. "Alright. Stand back and watch the pro." I started forward and headed to the back of the stage wher
Joining the fashion show was never ever on my bucket list or life goals. Believe me. I don't want to join any fashion show again. But who was I to refuse? With my mother's dazzled eyes and the nonstop persuasiveness of her workers, I was left with no choice but to enter. Not as Hailey though(thank goodness) but as the witch named Felisha Hughes. You know, the cursed pink wig?Yeah. That's her.And since the purpose of me becoming Felisha is to hide my identity, the only people who knows about my secret is my parents, Kaila, some trusted employees, and of course the student councils.Days and weeks have passed. The rehearsals, diet, and fitting almost consumed all of my scheduled free time especially since I have to shar
"FELISHA!!" Sophie screamed. Her voice laced with excitement that mirrored her beaming face. Her entrance was so sudden that one of the stylists jumped and bumped me from the back making me shove the lipstick into my open mouth. I quickly coughed and pulled the lipstick out only to find out in sheer horror that the tip was gone and I was feeling something stuck in my throat.I began to choke, which caught the attention of everyone in the room but they did nothing to help.Well, save for the panic shouts and screams.Kaila took that perfect time when she entered the room. "What's with all the loud noise?" She asked and her eyes landed on me- coughing and holding my neck - before it landed on the empty lipstick on my hand. "You did not just -" She shook her head and
A bunch of different brands showed off their own style for the school look and have their own unique signature look. Some were really freaking damn awesome while some were just plain weird. Models after models - male and female - entered the stage. As a new company brand starts, a host will be there to announce the name, and immediately, a screen would pop out and show the photoshoots in different scenes of the models and their outfits. Finally, it was our turn."And now, the last brand will showcase their own unique style. Ladies and gentlemen; the Collin Couture!" Our brand name was called. The crowd cheered when they heard my mom's clothing line. The first batch of models went out. Strutting and posing at blazing cameras at the center stage just like we rehearsed. Smiling and looking proud and beautiful. An
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
