"So what are you gonna do about it, nerd?" Says a guy as he holds the nerd's belongings up. Keeping the ‘nerd’ guy from reaching it. The nerd, with the big bulky glasses, stared at his belongings in defeat as he tried to reach for them. Based on their uniform, I could tell that they are both from the same school as I am.
"Please give it back, Tyler."
"Make me." Tyler, the school's jock and the well-known bully, challenged the kid.
I scoffed as I decided to go to them. "Is there a problem here?"
The two finally noticed my presence and immediately parted. Tyler quickly hid the things behind his back while the nerd kid stared at me with his mouth open. His glasses slightly fell from his nose, which he then adjusted. "H-Hailey."
One of my eyebrows rose. Would you look at that? This kid is only a freshman and yet he already knows about me. I have to give credit to the students in Waynard High for making my name so popular.
I only nodded at the kid in confirmation before facing Tyler.
"W-what do you want?" Tyler attempted to maintain a straight face but failed.
"The bag." I shifted my gaze behind him to where he's hiding the kid's bag. When he didn't move, I gave him a pointed look.
"N-no way! You always do this to me." He complained.
This guy really needs to be pushed. Or should I remind him of what happened the last time he went against me?
I tilted my head and dropped my bag to the ground. Not leaving my eyes on him. Then I started to crack my knuckles as if I was ready to fight - there will be if he won't surrender. This will be nice training for me anyway.
I’m kidding. I don’t want a fight. I’m just pushing my luck on how far my character can go.
I sent him another leer and this time, he dropped the bag and ran away from me. Leaving a trail of dust behind him.
I snorted silently. What a wimp!
But of course. I'm not gonna say that out loud. It's against my character.
"Well, this is boring." I straightened my face into character as I mumbled and grabbed my bag from the ground.
"U-um....." I paused and looked at the freshman who was starring at me in awe. Oh crap. Not those look again! "T-thank you." He stuttered and bowed his head to me.
I rolled my eyes and let out a sigh. Well, this kid is a freshman. What can I do?
"Don't be a wimp or he'll just pick on you." I said coolly and turned around to leave. The kid can find his way to our school so I don't have to act like a tour guide for him.
"She's so cool." I heard the kid mumble to himself. I cringed. That title again. I don't like it.
The school's cool girl. The intimidating, copper red-haired chick, who seems to radiate a badass aura everywhere. The girl that, no matter what she does, is admired.
I even wondered what they would do if I picked my nose in public. I swear if they still think I’m cool after doing that, then I will ask my father to sponsor this school for a health checkup.
I made my way to Waynard High's front gate with my sling bag on my shoulder. My hair was tied in a high ponytail that makes me look more intimidating in my school uniform; navy blue checkered skirt, white undershirt, and a navy blue blazer with the Waynard High logo on the upper right; Two griffins guarding the letters WH at the center.
As I entered the campus, my eyes immediately roamed around me where the different cliques were now gathered: The nerds, the jocks, the emos, the popular, etc.
As for me?
I don't exactly have friends. Call me lame but at least I'm a loner who's admired. Why do you ask? Well, the students here in this school always think that they are unworthy of my friendship because I'm too cool for them - or maybe they are just intimidated by me.
I'm a loner. Well, not exactly a loner who eats in the restroom because she doesn't have any friends to share a table with. No. That is not me - I have my own table for your information. Pretty cool huh?
I'm Hailey May Collins if you haven't guessed yet. I'm the school's cool girl. The most awesome female student who is cooler than a popular to be alive....in school.
Hey, at least I'm popular...
...in school!
"Look it's Hailey!"
"Hey, Hailey!"
"Doesn't she look good on our school uniform?"
"HAILEY! OVER HERE!! HAAAIILEEEY!" My eyes twitched at the annoying screams and yells. I turned my head to the bastards who were calling me. When I did, the girl squealed when she met my gaze.
"Omigosh! She looked at me! Did you see that!? Hailey noticed me!" She fanned herself as if she was about to faint at any moment.
I gritted my teeth. Really? With just my gaze I can make them squeal? What am I a movie star?
I headed for my locker. I first wanted to see if they gave me a crappy one so I could immediately change it. I twisted the knob to place my code. The green locker door opened and I checked the lock and its hinges. Pretty decent. This will do.
I placed my unneeded books and arranged them by size.
And that's when I noticed something weird. The girls started to squeal and chatter. The hallway became louder. I looked to the side to see what the commotion was about.
Is it me again?
Honestly, I can’t wait until I graduate so I can say sayonara Cool Girl!
When I finally saw what the commotion was about. The students parted ways like in some kind of movie and the famous student council students made their way at the center in slow motion. Kind of like what the popular kids would do in the movies.
Cliche much? Yeah, I know. It makes me want to put out a leg and trip them.
Just to ruin this blasted scene.
There's Sandy Elizabeth McLean, the secretary. One of the most popular girls in school. She's very pretty with her long blonde hair always in perfect waves and amazingly green eyes, perfect skin and rosy pink cheeks. She's the only female in their group, which makes her the darling. Trust me when I say that her suitors would have a hard time since they're afraid of the males in the student councils.
Standing beside her is Sheen Carter Thomas, the treasurer. He's a jock. A smart jock which is very rare. He's the captain of the soccer team and the swim team which now leads you to the conclusion that he's tan and muscular. Handsome? Of course. Especially if you add the sandy brown hair and his silver eyes.
In front of Sheen is the famous president of their group, Leo Victor Waynard. He's the Prince of the school. If you guys haven't noticed his family name, he's the son of the owner of the school. But of course, his family name has nothing to do with him being the president. It's all because of his brains and talent - which is too many to count. And don't forget his looks. His hair is blonde. But the golden shade of blonde to be exact. His eyes are gold that speaks of royalty and wealth. And most of all, he's the friendly type of person. He helps the students as much as he can as a friend or as a student council president.
And I sort of had a long time crush on the guy since we first met. It was during my freshman year, I was already the school's cool girl back then. I was running late for my history class when I just happened to see Leo, walking in the opposite direction of me.
Again with the cliche!? I know, right!?
He was carrying a bunch of papers, which I assume is to be submitted to their teacher. We were the only student's in the hall and during that time, our eyes met and he gave me one of his charming smiles - one that I didn't return since I was playing my character. His smile was warm. It was the very first time that someone from this school has given me a friendly smile and not one of admiration. Then and there, I started to blush so I kicked the papers away from him and warned him never to bump into me again.
Ah...young tragic love that went to ashes.
Crap.
They're coming this way. Is my hair alright!?
I haven't powdered my nose yet! They can't see me like this. More like Leo can't see me like this - not that they ever glance in my way or anything despite my title. But I probably looked hideous.
In my haste, I quickly shut my locker door and turned the other way to avoid eye contact with them. As I turned, I just happened to bump into someone, causing me to drop my Physics book to the floor.
My eyes rolled to the heavens. Have I been cursed with cliche plots!? What the f*ck is this?!
"Oh. Sorry." The guy in front of me said and he bent down to pick it up. But even as he kneeled, I could still see his face. He's Xander Andrew Lewis. The Vice President of the student council. He's known for being the hot one with his messy black hair and light blue eyes. Xander is also known for his happy go lucky attitude and his charming smiles. On the plus side, he's very athletic. Even way better than Sheen. Unfortunately, he doesn't sign up for the team. Some say that he is overqualified to be in it, but I don't believe that. No one is over qualified to be in any team so there must be another reason for it.
As the cool girl that I am, I only stared at him as he picked up my things. Even with my outer personality, I still couldn't help but feel intimidated by one of the members of the student council. Xander got up and handed me my book with a small smile on his face that caused me to take a step back. When I did, I bumped into someone again and almost made me trip.
Again!?
I looked behind me to see Leo staring at my face. He was holding my elbow to steady me - which I was grateful for, but the students here would see an uncool stunt by me. Then the most unexpected thing happened.
Leo talked to me.
"Are you okay?"
I have to write this in my diary. I can't believe that this day is happening. Is the universe siding with me today? Will I finally get a love life with Leo and ride off into the sunset together with rainbows and unicorns? If so then, I love you universe! This is the best day of my miserable life!
I was suddenly rid of my girly fantasies when the students around us started to whisper amongst each other.
"The student councils and the cool girl!"
"They finally meet!"
"Quick! Get my phone!"
A bunch of excited voices erupted from the students. And that is how I became my cool self again as I jerked my hand away from Leo and snatched my book from Xander. I straightened myself and gave each one a look. "Don't touch me, wimps." I said harshly before walking away with my heart pounding in my chest.
"Did you see that?"
"Hailey is just so cool!"
"Yeah! But did he just say that Xander and Leo are wimps?"
I heard the student gossiping right now. I quickened my pace. I was having a hard time catching my breath. I saw the girl’s comfort room and quickly made my way there. I was lucky that no one was here and locked myself in one of the cubicles.
"What did I just do? I just told Leo that he was a wimp! Shame on me!" I wept. How can I do that to my prince? I then bang my head to the door in my embarrassment.
Suddenly, I heard the door to the ladies room opened and heard the clacking of heels.
"Is anyone here?"
It was the first time that Leo had ever talked to me again in a long time. And what did I just say?
‘Don't touch me, wimps.’
Stupid cool girl image!
Okay. So maybe I said that to both Leo and Xander. But who cares about Xander? I only care about what Leo might think.
I continued to moan and sat down on the floor. I know. Sitting on the floor of the comfort room is disgusting.
"H-hello?" By the sounds of it, the girl seemed to be scarred. What's her problem?
"Kill me. I want to die....." I was so embarrassed that I started to do my own monologue.
"This is really not funny." said the girl.
Why is she here anyway? Can't she read the atmosphere? Scram! And of course this isn't funny! This is hilarious!
I started laughing at my own thoughts, but when I remembered what just happened, I started crying again.
What is wrong with me? I'm going crazy! This is why I badly needed friends so I could confide my feelings!
Or maybe a punching bag will do.
I sniffed one last time and decided that the comfort room isn't comforting enough anymore. I tried to open the cubicle door to give her a piece of my mind but it was jammed.
Oh great.
I tried again and shook it back and forth. No such luck. I even tried to punch it a couple of times. Damn! The school really knows how to pick materials that aren't breakable.
"Greeeaah!" I cried in frustration. Even the door hates me now! Is this what they call karma for over using my character? I let out a sound like a screaming monkey.
"I-if anyone is there. S-show yourself!"
Deciding that the door wouldn't open, I crawled underneath the door. My pony tail got stuck on the door and undoed itself. My hair now fell around my face as I crawled out of the cubicle.
"Help me!" I screamed a high pitched tone.I heard the girl scream.
"Help me!" I repeated as I reached out a hand towards her.
The girl screamed again and this time, she ran out of the room.
When I was finally able to slip through the door, I stood up. Now the girl doesn't even want to help me because she hates me for talking like that to Leo.
I whimpered and decided to check myself in the mirror since my ponytail got loose. When I saw my reflection in the mirror, I almost screamed in terror at my face.
Physics was done in a flash. Since it was the first day of school, the teachers didn't make us do a lot of things. Usually, they just make us write about our expectations about this subject and what we want to learn. Of course, just for the sake of passing the papers, the students would just write a bunch of nonsense and lies.Don't you agree?"Students, this is your vice president Xander speaking." Xander's voice rang in the speakers as we were about to exit the room. Hearing his voice just made me glare at the speaker and chanting DIE. I wouldn't have been in that situation if I hadn't bump into him. "This afternoon, there will be no classes!”The students erupted in cheer. You could even hear the students from the o
All the members of the student council were staring at me as if I was a freak or something, which I am not.Rude much.On the other note, Patrick was looking back and forth between me and the student councils. Oblivious to the tension boiling in the air.It must be nice being a kid. Finally, Patrick looked at his brother. "Xander, do you know her?" He asked his brother and pointed at me. I frowned at his finger. Hadn't his parents told him that it's not nice to point your finger at people?Meanwhile, Xander was still looking at me, confused about what to do. "I-uh-yeah." He stood up straighter. "Patrick, why don't you go to my room and stay there for a while?"
"Mom. I'm home." I called out as I entered our door. It was quiet and my voice echoed in the large living room. My nose suddenly caught a whiff of something being baked.Mmmm....cookies.....My stomach started to growl so I followed the scent into the kitchen. There, I saw my mom humming as she took the tray out of the oven and placed it on the counter. She was wearing a pink apron that hugged her slim body. Unlike me, my mom has brown hair, which she currently tied into a high ponytail.I took a step forward towards the counter. The sound of me approaching made her raise her green eyes at me and smiled. "Hey, sweety. How was school?" She asked.I sat on one of the chairs near the counter and turned to face her. "It was cool. Same old title, same treatment." I s
Are they serious? They're really going to transfer here? Why?! I continued to stare at them until their eyes found mine. I have to fight the urge to look away when they did."Alright! How about you take your seats so we could now proceed to the lesson?"Leo smiled at the professor and nodded. I couldn't help but notice that his eyes darted to me for a second before he and the other student councils followed him. Everyone in the class followed their every step with their eyes. Giggles of excitement came from the girls whenever they pass by them.I, for one, would have been too if I hadn't noticed that they were headed in my direction.Oh crap. Act normal act normal. I told myself
What did he say? Join the student council?I threw my head back as I laughed. "Sorry. I thought you said to join the student council."His face remained expressionless. "I did."I stared at him to see if he was perhaps kidding about his invitation but he's not. Handsome or not, I glared at him. "Really? You chased me all day just to invite me in-" I gestured towards them and made a circle with my finger. "-your group?""That and to keep an eye out for you." Added Sheen and I glared at him to shut up. He did.I returned my gaze back to Leo. "No."This time, it was Sandy who spoke up. "Please, Hailey. Think about it. I would love to have another girl in the group." She said an
"Hey, honey. Why are you home so early?" My mom immediately asked me once I got home."Nothing. Just tired and not in the mood for school.""Are you alright?" She asked me worriedly.I nodded. "Nothing like a good bed rest can't fix." I gave her a small smile and let her place the back of her palm on my forehead. She tsked. "I'll take that excuse for today, but you better not be doing that regularly, okay? You have to keep your grades up for college."I smiled. "Of course. Can't wait for college after all." And be done with this drama. "I'm going to my room, okay?" I said as I kissed her on the cheek before heading up."Oh wait."I sto
I just stared at her and at the wig in disgust. "Ew. Why pink?"Then I heard a loud slap as she facepalmed. "I just gave YOU an IDEA and the first time that came to your mind is about the wig’s COLOR!? Are you being serious right now?!”I flinched at the tone of her voice. "I know. I heard you so...yay!!! FELISHA HUGHES!! THE DAUGHTER OF SHREK AND FIONA WAS BORN!! But pink? Really?!" I shivered. When I looked up, I almost screamed in fright when I saw the look of fury on Kaila's face. You could totally imagine a fire in the background by how she looks. I gulp. She stormed to me and grabbed my arms. She hauled me up. "W-wait! What are you gonna do to me?""Relax. I promise you this won't hurt you.""You&rsquo
Yesterday, I told one of the staff to burn to wig. That stupid thing was the root and cause of my downfall. I am pretty sure of it. So to say, I think it deserves a bitter end.I was walking along the hallway with my bag slung over my should as usual. I made a stop at my locker and grabbed the needed books for my first period. Then, I headed for my classroom.Once I opened the door, my eyes scanned the area for a bit to make sure the pests - a.k.a the student councils - weren’t around."Morning, Hailey!!""Hailey! Hi!"The student greeted me but I took no interest in them as I continued my search. When I found no sign of them, I smiled on the inside and headed fo
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
