All the members of the student council were staring at me as if I was a freak or something, which I am not.
Rude much.
On the other note, Patrick was looking back and forth between me and the student councils. Oblivious to the tension boiling in the air.
It must be nice being a kid.
Finally, Patrick looked at his brother. "Xander, do you know her?" He asked his brother and pointed at me. I frowned at his finger. Hadn't his parents told him that it's not nice to point your finger at people?
Meanwhile, Xander was still looking at me, confused about what to do. "I-uh-yeah." He stood up straighter. "Patrick, why don't you go to my room and stay there for a while?"
Patrick raised an eyebrow at his brother. "Is that a question or an order?"
"Both. Now get going and don't come out until I say so." Xander said and pushed Patrick back. Patrick pouted at him and looked at Leo for help.
"Leo..."
Leo only gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry, Pat. But I think it's best if you follow your brother's orders for now." Patrick let out a huff as he turned his back to us and headed for a room.
"Adults are no fun." He mumbled, then he turned around to face me with a smile on his face. "Thank you for your help, Hailey! Let's play again next time." He said and ran towards the room.
As soon as the door closed behind him, the student councils were once again looking at me. And I have a feeling that I am now at the mercy of these people in front of me; The student councils/The Pandergriffs.
Keep it cool, Hailey. Don't break a sweat. Just turn around and don't look back. I repeat, don't look back.
And that's what I did. With my right hand inside my skirt pocket, I turned around to leave and closed the door gently behind me. I walked slowly and casually towards the hall as if everything was normal. But then, I felt two sets of hands grabbing my arms.
Crap.
Without any warning, I was dragged straight back into the student council room. Once I was inside, they made me sit on their black leather sofa. Sandy, the secretary, hurriedly locked the doors before joining the rest of the members standing in front of me.
They were looking down at me as if I was a killer or something.
I feel like I'm the prey and they are the predators.
Even though I'm in this state, I chose to keep a cool face as I looked back at them. It took all my willpower not to flinch at their scrutinizing gaze.
"So." Sheen, the treasurer, said. Finally breaking the silence. "You're Hailey May Collins. The well-known Waynard High's cool girl who beat the crap out of a bully years ago, correct?" He asked me with his eyebrows raised.
Now, why ask that all of a sudden?
Sandy glared at Sheen and flicked his forehead.
"Ow! What's the big idea, San?" Sheen asked while holding his forehead.
"You don't have to scare her like that." She chided him as looked back at me. "Sorry about that."
Wait. What did she say? Me? Scared? No way!
I looked at Sandy straight in the eyes and forced my face to remain expressionless as possible. "If you don't mind me asking, I would like to know what I am here for." I said and crossed my arms over my chest.
Sandy didn't say anything, but Sheen started to let out a whooping sound. "As expected of her. She goes straight to the point!!" He clapped his hands while Sandy gave him an annoyed look.
"Would you stop playing around and be serious?!" She yelled at him.
I averted my gaze at the two as I looked at the two remaining persons in front of me, who have remained silent throughout the whole conversation. As expected, they too were staring at me. But I just couldn't help but point out the difference in their gazes.
Leo's gaze was more calm and friendly. If you look at him more closely and focus more on him, you can see a light coming through from heaven as it shined on him and only him. And you can hear the angel's voice singing a soft melody to match the mood. And to make it grander, the corner of Leo's lips moved and formed into a smile aimed at me.
Looking at him makes it feel nice to be alive.
But all that happy mood changed as soon as I met Xander's gaze. He has a murderous intent in them that makes you want to crawl somewhere dark so he wouldn't find you. His look was so dark that you would feel as if you were suffocating in black water. He's a demon.
And I thought he was supposed to be the 'happy-go-lucky' guy with smiles and everything?
"Miss Collins." I averted my gaze at Xander and went back to Leo. Did he just call me? "We don't mean to take a lot of your time." He said. "All we wanted to know is what have you seen just a moment ago?"
"Yeah! What did you see? No. How much did you see?" Added Sheen.
My mind went back a few minutes. To the moment Patrick and I entered the student council room. Then to the moment that I realized that the student councils and the Pandergriffs are one. How much have I seen?
Well, I would say a lot.
But I have to be wise in choosing my words here. So I went for the safer route and just trusted my outer cool character to handle things. "Nothing worth speaking of."
Nah! It's actually worth speaking of. Just imagine the uproar once the media hears that The Pandergriffs are, in fact, just regular students from Waynard High. Our school would be so damn famous.
The group was taken aback and they looked at each other as if not knowing what to do or what to say to my response. I smiled evilly at their confused state.
A good start. If I keep this up then they might consider letting me go.
"Speak clearly. We're not joking around here!" Xander raised his voice as he glared at me. Not mentally prepared for it, I flinched a little.
How dare he speak to me like that!?
"Xander." Leo gave him a warning look, but it seemed to have no effect on him as he continued to scrutinize me with his eyes. As much as I want to shiver and run away in fear from his gaze, I chose to stay put.
I gulped. No way am I going to let him scream at me like that without a fight. "Raising your voice won't do you any good." I said and was a bit stunned that I hadn't stuttered. This is the power of the outer me. "And as for your question." I got up from the couch. "I have seen a lot to be able to put the puzzle pieces together, Gabrielle Xyler."
The stunned look on the student council's faces says it all. They're scared. Scared that I have found out about their secret.
Damn. Perhaps I might have gone too far. But I didn't mean to! I have to fix this mess.
"What do you want then?"
I looked at Xander who had his hands curled into fists. I gulp. He isn't going to use that to me, right? "What do you want?" He asked again when I didn't answer his first question. "Money? A position? Tell us."
Money? Hah! Position? Psh!!
What I really want is...
THEIR AUTOGRAPHS!
Or a date with Leo.
But since I still have my cool side, I couldn’t say it to them. So I just laughed out loud and started to walk towards the members. Then I tapped Xander's shoulder. "Don't worry. I have no intention of revealing anything. It would just be a hassle as I have to collect proofs." I said and took that opportunity, seeing as they were all still frozen from either shock or panicked to brisk walk my way out of the student council room.
Once I was safely out of the room, I was finally able to breathe. But I won't make the same mistake a second time and be captured once again.
With that in mind, I started to run as fast as my feet could carry me. I even had to hug my shoulder bag as I ran so it wouldn't be in the way. I don't have to worry about the students though. Most of them had already gone home or headed to malls with their friends since the program was already over. For now, I just have to focus on going back home safely.
"Mom. I'm home." I called out as I entered our door. It was quiet and my voice echoed in the large living room. My nose suddenly caught a whiff of something being baked.Mmmm....cookies.....My stomach started to growl so I followed the scent into the kitchen. There, I saw my mom humming as she took the tray out of the oven and placed it on the counter. She was wearing a pink apron that hugged her slim body. Unlike me, my mom has brown hair, which she currently tied into a high ponytail.I took a step forward towards the counter. The sound of me approaching made her raise her green eyes at me and smiled. "Hey, sweety. How was school?" She asked.I sat on one of the chairs near the counter and turned to face her. "It was cool. Same old title, same treatment." I s
Are they serious? They're really going to transfer here? Why?! I continued to stare at them until their eyes found mine. I have to fight the urge to look away when they did."Alright! How about you take your seats so we could now proceed to the lesson?"Leo smiled at the professor and nodded. I couldn't help but notice that his eyes darted to me for a second before he and the other student councils followed him. Everyone in the class followed their every step with their eyes. Giggles of excitement came from the girls whenever they pass by them.I, for one, would have been too if I hadn't noticed that they were headed in my direction.Oh crap. Act normal act normal. I told myself
What did he say? Join the student council?I threw my head back as I laughed. "Sorry. I thought you said to join the student council."His face remained expressionless. "I did."I stared at him to see if he was perhaps kidding about his invitation but he's not. Handsome or not, I glared at him. "Really? You chased me all day just to invite me in-" I gestured towards them and made a circle with my finger. "-your group?""That and to keep an eye out for you." Added Sheen and I glared at him to shut up. He did.I returned my gaze back to Leo. "No."This time, it was Sandy who spoke up. "Please, Hailey. Think about it. I would love to have another girl in the group." She said an
"Hey, honey. Why are you home so early?" My mom immediately asked me once I got home."Nothing. Just tired and not in the mood for school.""Are you alright?" She asked me worriedly.I nodded. "Nothing like a good bed rest can't fix." I gave her a small smile and let her place the back of her palm on my forehead. She tsked. "I'll take that excuse for today, but you better not be doing that regularly, okay? You have to keep your grades up for college."I smiled. "Of course. Can't wait for college after all." And be done with this drama. "I'm going to my room, okay?" I said as I kissed her on the cheek before heading up."Oh wait."I sto
I just stared at her and at the wig in disgust. "Ew. Why pink?"Then I heard a loud slap as she facepalmed. "I just gave YOU an IDEA and the first time that came to your mind is about the wig’s COLOR!? Are you being serious right now?!”I flinched at the tone of her voice. "I know. I heard you so...yay!!! FELISHA HUGHES!! THE DAUGHTER OF SHREK AND FIONA WAS BORN!! But pink? Really?!" I shivered. When I looked up, I almost screamed in fright when I saw the look of fury on Kaila's face. You could totally imagine a fire in the background by how she looks. I gulp. She stormed to me and grabbed my arms. She hauled me up. "W-wait! What are you gonna do to me?""Relax. I promise you this won't hurt you.""You&rsquo
Yesterday, I told one of the staff to burn to wig. That stupid thing was the root and cause of my downfall. I am pretty sure of it. So to say, I think it deserves a bitter end.I was walking along the hallway with my bag slung over my should as usual. I made a stop at my locker and grabbed the needed books for my first period. Then, I headed for my classroom.Once I opened the door, my eyes scanned the area for a bit to make sure the pests - a.k.a the student councils - weren’t around."Morning, Hailey!!""Hailey! Hi!"The student greeted me but I took no interest in them as I continued my search. When I found no sign of them, I smiled on the inside and headed fo
Lunch came. As usual, I was the last one to exit our room and head for the cafeteria. As I got there, I saw that there was a commotion going on AT MY TABLE.Two first-year students, both girls, were carrying their tray of food and were seemed to be blocked by a few groups of girls that I recognize. Alexandria, Courtney, and Wilma. I don't want to brag or anything but those three girls are the head of the Hailey May Collins fan club.I'm not bragging at all because I don't like it. Basically, they are just a group of Hailey wannabes that try to act like me but ended up looking like total b*tches. Plus, they are a wee bit aggressive. They tried to befriend me once, but I wasn't interested. At first, I thought that it would be the end of that stupid fan club but it only grew more. Alexandria even dyed
My blood started to boil at the sight of them. "What the heck are you guys doing here!?" I busted out. Honestly, I wanted to have some alone time.Shouldn't they be in their room or something?Hearing my voice, they all turned and smiled, except for Xander who still had his back to me. "Hi, Hailey. Would you like to join us?" Sandy asked as she brought out different kinds of sandwiches and cakes that made my mouth water. But not enough for me to join them. I still have my pride!I averted my gaze to their food and glared at them. "You haven't answered my question."Sheen got up from a sitting position and grinned. "We basically followed you here. And when we saw where you went, we decided to have
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
