Anna's POV Pulling my legs up to my chin, I wrapped my hands around them as I reviewed what Alpha Jasper had said. Since he left earlier, I had been trying to get some sleep but to no avail. All through the time I was lying on the bed, I was tossing from one end to the other end, thinking this would tire me out and I would eventually sleep off, but it didn't work. “And to think I was already rejoicing that I will be free,” I muttered. Sucking my teeth, I tossed my head to the side. When my stepfather handed me to Alpha Jasper as a breeder, I never thought it was going to be a lifelong deal. All I thought was, when I gave him the heir which he wanted, I would be allowed to go my way but as it seems, it wasn't like that. Frustrated, I tilted my head to the side before falling on my back. The next morning when Lilian came around, I was quick to dismiss her. I wasn't interested in having a bath or even breakfast this morning. I just wanted to be on my own. It wasn't long afte
Chapter 49 Anna's POV A week later… Today marks one week after the ugly incident that led to the loss of my child. No day passes without me having thought about it despite all my efforts to forget about it. Right now, I was pacing around the chambers with my hands across my chest. Earlier, I had sent the maids away so I could have more privacy to myself. My mind was troubled, and speaking to Alpha Jasper was the only way I could calm down, but the issue wasn't speaking to him; rather, it was how I would phrase my words. For a while now, I have been hearing the maids talking about the rumours which had spread outside the wall of the palace. As they had said, the council of elders had decided to find someone else for Alpha Jasper because of the loss of my child. They backed up their act saying it was because my womb was too weak to hold an Alpha's heir, that's why I lost him easily. “These people are just too heartless,” I muttered, wrapping my hands around my shoulders,
Anna's POV The moment he banged the door shut, I couldn't help but flinch as I stared at the closed door. For the next few minutes that followed, I couldn't take my eyes off it. I was just staring at the door as if my life and whole well-being depended on it. “Ugh!” I sighed as I tugged my hair, not minding the pain I was causing to my scalp. With tears burning my eyes, I made my way towards the bed and then released my weight slowly on it. With the way things were happening, I wouldn't be surprised if I went mad at this rate. Alpha Jasper was good at making decisions out of the moon without bothering to consult who it was going to affect. What makes him think a mating ceremony was going to put an end to all of the rumours? This wasn't the bone of contention now; the issue was the disruption of the peaceful life I had always dreamt and imagined all through my childhood. At some point in my life, I couldn't help but feel that I was being punished for a crime that I knew no
Chapter 51 Anna’s POV Just a few days ago, Alpha Jasper told me about the mating ceremony and now D-Day has come. At the moment, I was trying to wrap my head around how quickly a week went by. While waiting for the mating ceremony, I didn't sit back even for a second. I was always finding ways how to make Alpha Jasper change his mind about the mating ceremony, but to my challenge, he always bounced my words back. When I discovered that each time I reminded him about the ceremony, he went a mile in the preparation, I gave up trying, having no choice but to resign to my fate. A few days ago, I was trying to get my mind off the recent happenings in my life when an excited Lilian walked up to me. Curious to find out the cause of her happiness, I made enquiries only to learn that Alpha Jasper had started sending invitations to the neighbouring packs. Up until now, I was still trying to wrap my head around my sudden change of status, first, an ordinary pack member, a breeder an
Selena's POV “My lady, I brought your clothes for the mating ceremony. I think you should start getting ready now.” A maid said, and immediately, I sent her a glare. With a calm yet angry tone, I said, “Get out.” “No way… there must be a mix-up somewhere.” I muttered, pacing around my room. Several times, I had asked my maids which day it was and they all confirmed my fear, making me livid. I was still trying to wrap my head around the sudden arrival of today. “Yesterday must have ended within twelve hours.” I snapped, still pacing. Right now, I have lost my sanity; it won't be long before I start throwing fists. The thought of failure to accomplish my plan was gnawing on me greatly, making me feel worthless. “Not Anna, I should be the Luna. That nitwit doesn't deserve such an honourable position. I’m being cheated here.” I groaned, grabbing my hair with all my might. My scalp was aching, but I didn't care; I was just too angry to stay still. Do you know what it is for
Alpha Jasper's POV After days of careful planning for this ceremony, all my efforts paid off. I couldn't help but feel this sense of fulfilment gnawing inside of me as I took a look around the pack. The whole place was spick and span and also beautifully decorated. All guests were present and they were having a good time while they ate and drank. This was the goal I had in mind, why shouldn't I be fulfilled? When Anna tried to stop me earlier from holding the mating ceremony, I had no reason to exchange words with her. Instead, I always went the extra mile in my preparations. Thanks to her persistent attitude, today became a huge success for me and also a proud moment. Turning to the side, I took a long look at my mate before reaching out for her hand and giving it a soft squeeze. “Uhm….” She reacted, turning towards me with a raised brow. Running my fingers on the outline of her smooth jaw, I flashed a smile at her before saying, “Never knew you could be this beautiful
Anna's POV After the mating ceremony, Alpha Jasper and I were led to the ballroom where the reception was going to be held. I was already drained from standing for too long during the ceremony and now I was looking forward to grabbing a seat. “My lord, congratulations.” Beta Jacob said, appearing by our side. I haven't seen him since after we left the hallway earlier. “What is the situation in the ballroom?” Alpha Jasper asked, ignoring his greeting. “Everything is going on as planned. The guests are already being ushered in, and once you arrive, the ceremony will begin in full swing.” He rapped. “Good.” Grabbing my hand, he turned towards me with a bright smile and was not one of those who gave me the creeps. He intertwined our fingers, and together, we walked towards the ballroom, congratulatory messages being chanted from all corners. Now seated on the throne with Alpha Jasper, I began to watch the guests who were all dressed in their best attire. It was fun watching t
Selena's POV After Alpha Jasper left me in the middle of the dance floor without warning, I was livid, and with a shame-filled face, I pulled my feet towards the congregation. Grasping my gown with both hands, I tried to keep still, but it was difficult for me. I kept sighing, twisting and tossing about where I sat. Unable to bear the rage that was raving through me anymore, I gathered my belongings and with heavy footsteps, I stormed towards my chambers. “My lady, let's help you undress.” A maid said, running after me. “Get out of here this minute,” I yelled back at her. The way she flinched at my current response made me recoil but it lasted only for a moment. Left alone in my chambers I began to pace around until I got tired and then flopped on my bed. Staring into space, I started to review all that had happened in my head. The fact that Alpha Jasper treats me like a nobody makes me livid and even heightens the hatred I have towards Anna. She was a thorn in my flesh,
Author's POV Months later… Sitting on the throne in the courtroom was Alpha Jasper who was wearing a worried look as he stared at the elders seated before him. As usual, they were whispering among themselves, making noise in the process since none of them were bold enough to bring up the topic. Shitting uncomfortably on his seat, Alpha Jasper shot his eyes tightly, trying not to show the extent of his worries but if he was carefully observed, it wouldn't go unnoticed. Before leaving the chambers, Anna had shown signs of labor and so he had sent for the physician who was on standby just in case something like this happened. “I hope nothing bad happens, I hope nothing bad happens, I hope nothing bad happens…” He kept on going over and over his words, hitting his fist against the arm of the chair. In his frustrated state, he didn't realize he was voicing it until Beta Jacob pointed it out to him and it was confirmed when he locked eyes with the elders who were staring.
Author's POV Watching the monster devour Selena who was struggling to get herself out of the cage was a relief to Alpha Jasper. Her cries and screams for help made a coy smile appear on his lips, his gaze never leaving her even for a second. “You should have stopped when I asked you to but you never listened.” He groaned, wiping off the splash of blood from his face. “My lord, here,” Beta Jacob said, placing a bowl of water in front of him so he would clean up. By the time he was done, the monster had finished devouring Selena and now it was purring in satisfaction. Still smiling, he pushed his hand into his pockets and then began to head towards the exit. On arrival at the chambers, the moment he pushed the door in, Anna, who had been pacing around with a worried look on her face, halted. “What is the issue?” He asked, peering at her with a raised brow. “Selena… what are you going to do with her.” She rapped while Alpha Jasper stared at her full lips. Unaw
Alpha Jasper's POV Grateful I have been able to prove to Anna that there was nothing going on between me and Selena, I turned towards her with a coy smile playing on my lips. “Are you okay?” I asked, running my fingers against her smooth arm. “Yeah, just a little bit tired. I will be perfectly okay when I have gotten enough rest.” She said in a reassuring tone. Nodding, I got off my seat and then pushed my hand towards her, “Let's go.” I said, helping her rise with my other hand. When she finally got off the seat with a lot of difficulty, I held her shoulder, helping her walk towards the door. “Thank you.” She said as we made our way through the hallway. “You don't have to thank me. I did what every other person who is in my place would do… so, it's not a big deal.” I said with a little laugh and she joined in. Still smiling, I patted her shoulders, hoping I would see someone around to help her to the chambers safely since Maya was still incapacitated. “Take h
Alpha Jasper's POV The more Selena tried to play the victim card on me, the angrier I became but I held myself back as I waited patiently for the physicians to arrive. By the time I was done dealing with her, Anna will have no choice but to believe and quit doubting me. After what seems like an eternity, the door of the courtroom caved in and almost immediately, Beta Jacob walked in, followed by her family physician. “Since you decided to involve your family physician, I think I should consider giving her the spot of the royal infirmary since you trust her more than the head physician.” I smacked my lips, drumming my finger against the arm of my seat. “I never doubted you, I just wanted my family physician to handle me since it had been her duty.” Selena said in her defense. “It's alright, please go ahead with it.” I gestured to the physician who immediately made her way to the middle of the courtroom. “My lord.” She bowed with her hands folded in front of her.
Anna's POV “Pregnant?” I mumbled, staring at Selena. With the way she has spoken, even though I didn't want to believe her claim, I had no choice but to do so. The look on her face was something I couldn't get off my mind despite all my efforts, it kept popping up, taunting me in the process. “She is pregnant.” I muttered again, staring at Alpha Jasper who had his back turned on me. At this point, I needed an explanation from him but it seems like I wasn't going to get it. No doubts, he was aware of it but he was acting like he had no idea. Clenching and unclenching my fists, I kept digging my teeth into my bottom lips, not minding the pains I was inflicting on myself. Why isn't he looking in my direction? Does it mean he is guilty of the allegation? — I pondered, shifting my gaze away from him momentarily. Slowly, the realization began to dawn on me. No wonder he had been postponing her punishment, always coming up with an excuse to push it aside. “I shou
Alpha Jasper's POV For the next few minutes they followed, I didn't react. I kept staring at Selena who was still struggling to get away from the guards who held her even more firmly. “What are you aiming at?” I asked, my gaze never leaving her. Her confession didn't shake me but I feared how Anna was going to react to it. Because of this, I didn't look in her direction, instead, I had my gaze on Selena. “Congratulations.” I said, hitting my palms together. “You have no idea what I’m talking about.” She yelled and with all the energy she could muster, she freed herself from the guards grip. “Don't come any closer.” She yelled at them when they attempted to hold her again. “Let her be.” I said only then did they retreat from her. Now in the middle of the courtroom, she pushed her hair away from her face and after arranging her dress, she straightened up. “It seems you didn't get what I said.” She said, rolling her eyes. “You said you're pregnant and I congr
Alpha Jasper's POV My words must have struck a chord in her because the look on her face was like she was going to pass out the next second. Selena being the cunny one must have come up with different things to wriggle herself out of my grip but not this time. Knowing this, I had braced myself up in readiness to square off with her until she exhausted every little tactic she was going to throw my way. “Should I prove you wrong?” I broke the silence in the courtroom. “I have no idea what you're talking about.” She rapped. “I still stand my ground that Anna is the one who framed me.” She pressed on. Snapping my fingers, Beta Jacob quickly rushed to my side, wielding the silver dagger we had recovered from the woods. “What about this?” I asked, waving the weapon above my head. “My dagger.” She cried out with a look of surprise on her face. In this case, a novice would think she was innocent. “Why was it in the woods?” “I have no idea. I have been searching for
Selena’s POV In a thousand years to come, I doubt if I will forget this day, the embarrassment and everything that came with it. The maids and guards whom I had once had control over were staring at me, pointing their fingers and at the same time making snide comments which I didn't want to hear. If I did, I doubt if I would let go easily. I will be prompted to teach one of them a lesson, thereby worsening my current situation. “What am I going to do now?” This was the only question ringing in my head. For Alpha Jasper to send Beta Jacob to come fetch me, that means he had strong evidence against me. “I should have stabbed her neck instead of her stomach. I know for sure, she wouldn't have survived it.” My eyes were already burning with hot tears which I wasn't going to allow to roll down. Showing my vulnerability would be the last thing I will do, I’d rather die than to do that. On getting to the courtroom, I took in a deep breath and immediately the doors were
Selena's POV With each step I took, it gradually began to dawn on me the deep mess I was in. It was as if I was in a dream, a bad dream which I was desperate to wake up from. Snapping my eyes shut, I took in a deep breath before opening them once more. “Father,” I muttered, biting my lower lips as anger mixed with hatred welled up inside of me. Yes! I understand he was mad at me; I was the one who made him lose his mate and also made him a laughing stock among the council of elders, but that doesn't mean he should push me off when he gets the slightest opportunity. With the way he had acted, it was apparent he had been waiting for the right time to get rid of me and immediately he got it, he didn't think twice. Blinking my eyes rapidly to send back the tears that had welled up in them, I remembered my mother. If only she was still here with us, this wouldn't be happening. She would have found a way to pull me out of this mess even if it meant placing her life on
