Chapter 22

Anna's POV

For a moment, I was startled by my mother's sudden yell. I was still staring at her when she pointed at my belly and with quivering lips, she asked,

“Is she telling the truth? Are you pregnant?” Her eyes widened, the same as that of her father, who was staring at me as if this was our first meeting.

“Dammit, how did I allow that word to slip out of my mouth,” Maya muttered beside me but I was quick to grab her hand and then gave it a soft squeeze.

Soon, we were staring at each other. Despite my sad state, I was able to flash a smile at her to reassure her.

“It's fine,” I whispered before returning my gaze to my parents.

“So it's true.” Mother was the one speaking now. With her hands resting on her hips, she turned towards her stepfather and, with a hoarse voice, yelled, “You see what you have done?”

“Calm down.” He replied, his gaze still on me hence making me feel uncomfortable.
