Pearl’s POV

Everything felt so warm, yet discomforting. The darkness I was pulled into slowly began to dissipate. My heavy eyelids fluttered open, revealing a blurry figure beside me.

"Uh..." I groaned, the exhaustion weighing down on my entire body.

"Luna, you're awake."

I turned toward the voice, blinking to clear my vision. It was my maid, Elsa.

"How do you feel, Luna?" She inquired, her voice laced with concern.

I wanted to ask how I ended up here, but then I recalled fainting from the mate burn. Carlson and I had been mated and married for three years. In that time, I did all I could do to please him, acting as the perfect Luna, so he could look at me with love.

I even went as far as giving him an important possession I received from my dead parents just to save his Pack which in turn caused my wolf to become useless. I could never try to shift in public because I would be ridiculed. But all that was for nothing. I was cast aside like a trash can.

I was so lost in thought but the maid nudged me a bit and so I came back to my senses.

"How long have I been out?" I asked, blinking away the tears gathering in my eyes.

"For days now," She replied, standing from the bed.

"Days!" I exclaimed, sitting up abruptly.

"Careful, Luna..." She whispered, placing pillows behind me. "You had severe burn marks. The pack doctor said it would take a while for you to wake up."

Tears welled up in my eyes, realizing the whole pack must know the issues with Carlson.

"Luna, I'm sorry that I wasn't here to help," Elsa apologized, her face full of guilt.

"You don't need to apologize, Elsa, none of this is your fault..."I sighed, leaning back against the pillows.

"Did Carlson come to see me?" I asked, maintaining the hope that he still had a slight concern for me.

She lowered her gaze for a moment before replying, "No. He never came."

My hope shattered at that moment. He didn't even care to visit me.

"What has he been doing?"

"I don't know..." Elsa replied, shrugging a bit. "I have been tending to you all this while, but, I kind of saw him with his... ex-fiancée."

Lyra was so vexed hearing that. I was also stunned by the great unconcern that he had shown. But was I willing to give up on my marriage, well no.

I didn't have anywhere else to go. I couldn't forsake my duties and people either.

"You must be hungry, I'll get something for you." She said, rising from the bed.

Elsa left and returned a few moments later with a tray of food. I didn't have an appetite but had to eat, so I could take some medications.

As I ate, I felt another burning sensation within.

"Not again," I whimpered, clutching my stomach.

"Luna," Elsa rushed to my side. "What is it?"

I shook my head at Elsa, knowing I couldn't bear out my pains to her. However, I couldn’t keep up with this. I've got to save my marriage. I couldn’t let everything slip away.

"Please make a bath for me. I have to meet Carlson. Do you know where he is now?"

"In the dining room, Luna." She replied.

Leaving my room, I headed downstairs in search of Carlson. As I walked to the dining room in hopes of seeing him, I found Hazel.

"Hazel," I called.

She shifted her gaze from her food to me, and her expression hardened.

"I thought you were still in your coma phase," She chuckled sinisterly. "Looking for attention, huh?"

Lyra growled in me, having the urge to rip her into shreds. But I held back.

"I'm glad that you're showing your true colors, but I don't have your time. Where is my husband?" I demanded.

"Right in the palm of my hand," She said, her lips curving into a cruel smirk.

My hand was itching badly to slap her and wipe that smirk away from her lips.

"If you think that you've succeeded because Carlson is having sex with you, just know you're mistaken." I sneered. "I'll soon reveal your deceitful nature and he'll dump you like the trash that you are."

She laughed at my words and set down her fork. She swept her blonde hair backward and casually grabbed a glass of juice.

"Did you wear that pathetic dress to try and seduce him?" Hazel asked, eyeing me in disdain.

I lowered my gaze to my dress, and pouted. I truly wore it for Carlson, it was also his favorite color.

"Yes, what's wrong with that?" I retorted. "I'm his mate after all. I can do whatever I want."

She walked to me, maintaining a smirk on her lips.

"Quit being delusional, Pearl. You're just holding on to a title that will soon be claimed." She stepped closer, her face inches away from mine. "You should also know that this isn't a competition..."

"....because you were never in the race."

My heart grew so bitter at her claim, because she was right. I never truly had a place in Carlson's heart.

"True, this isn't a competition because I am the Luna of the Silver Falls Pack, and you're nothing but a little slut."

Her smile faltered and in a flash, she splashed the juice all over my dress. A gasp left my lips as the cold liquid soaked through the fabric.

"How dare you call me a slut?" She yelled. "I wanted to just take him away from you. But from today, I'll make sure your life becomes hell—

She suddenly froze, listening to the sound of approaching footsteps. They had to belong to Carlson.

"Ah!" She suddenly screamed, falling to the floor.

The glass shattered and the sharp edges pierced her hands.

"It hurts!"

I was so shocked by her actions, but before I could say anything, Carlson rushed into the dining room.

"My love!" He exclaimed, rushing to her. "What happened?"

Even I didn't know the answer to that question. What the hell just happened?

"Carlson," She sobbed. "I mistakenly spilled some juice on her dress, and she pushed me harshly to the floor even after I apologized profusely to her."

I was stunned by her lies.

"How could you do this to her? Why do you have to be so unreasonable!" He yelled at me, scooping her into his arms.

He shot glares at me as he departed from the dining room.

I was left dumbfounded by everything that had just happened. I couldn't even defend myself because it all happened so fast.

Hazel wasn't just after Carlson, she was extremely dangerous. She hurt herself without thinking, so she could paint me in a bad light. What more could she do?

This was more scary than I thought.

Was Carlson truly worth all this emotional and physical pain and humiliation I had experienced? Although I loved my people, would they support me if he wanted Hazel as his Luna?

This situation was more hopeless than I thought.

Sighing, I looked down at my dress. It was one of the most beautiful dresses I had, and now it was ruined.

"Moon goddess," I muttered, resigning to a chair.

I didn't know how long I stayed looking into space, but all I knew was that I was tired. My heart was hurting and I felt so stupid for giving Carlson everything while hoping he would change.

He never deserved my love.

Carlson returned, more angry than before.

"You owe her an apology!" Carlson snapped, stepping closer to me.

"Apology?" I huffed. "She had sex with you and framed me. I am the one who deserves an apology!"

"Pearl, don't provoke me!"

Tired of him, I rose to my feet and demanded, "Reject me."
