NOLAN’S POV

I felt a dull throbbing pain in my head as I slowly gained consciousness. My throat was dry, and the metallic taste of blood sat stubbornly on my tongue.

I turned my head slowly to look around the dimly lit room I was in. My wrists were tied behind my back, the rope biting into my skin.

Dimitri was slumped unconscious beside me, dried blood staining his temple. Our men were tied up across the room, still unconscious.

Where the hell were we?

I sat up slowly, trying to piece together the last thing I remembered. We were closing in on the location of Raul’s sponsor. Months of intel had led to that warehouse. As we circled the perimeter, we got grenades thrown at us scattering our formation.

And then toxic gas got thrown at us that turned everything black.

Dimitri stirred beside me.

“Dimitri,” I called.

He sat up looking confused. "What the...?" He asked with a grunt as he pulled on the ropes.

I kicked him in the shin.

“Damn it, Nolan,” he said, flinching. “What the hell was

IVAN’S POVI stood frozen at the reception desk with my fists clenched as the wheels squeaking down the hallway echoed in my head. The memories of Anna screaming and the heavy bleeding flashed in my head. Was she going to be okay? Was my baby going to make it? The thought of losing my baby made me furious. The doctor came back out not long after. He looked around and then asked, “Where’s her husband?”Nolan’s mom stepped forward quickly. “He’s not around. Is everything okay with Anna and the baby?”The doctor looked down at the chart in his hands and sighed. “She’s 32 weeks along, which means the baby isn’t fully developed. But, the real issue is that she’s experiencing a placental abruption, which means the placenta is separating from the uterine wall before delivery. That’s what caused the bleeding and the pain.”Nolan’s mother gasped, stunned into silence."Is that... dangerous?" Anna’s mother asked.“It can be. That’s why we have to perform an emergency C-section immediately. The

NOLAN’s POV “You’re marrying her, and that’s final!” my father declared, rising from his chair with an air of authority that filled the room. I stood slowly, taking deliberate steps toward the door. “You don’t get to decide how I live my life. I’ll do whatever the hell I want!” I shot back, pausing at the door frame to meet his gaze before walking away.As I headed to my car, my mind raced with the weight of his words. Marry a girl I didn’t even know in two months? Who the hell did he think he was, dictating how screwed up my life should be?On my way out, I caught sight of my mother standing by the doorway. The worry etched across her face was unmistakable, but I managed a faint smile before stepping out into the evening air.Growing up, I had always been the most gentle of my siblings. Ruthless, yet gentle. I’d poured my focus into the family business, knowing my father would one day hand it over to me. The mafia world was twisted and chaotic, but it perfectly fits my type of chao

ANASTASIA’S POV “I can’t believe my dad is setting me up with someone I’ve never met just because he thinks I need a man’s help to run the family business I’ve been preparing for my entire life,” I ranted to my best friend, Athena, pacing back and forth in the room. Athena and I have been friends since we were kids. We both grew up in the same environment filled with rich and snobby people. Athena wasn’t the prim and proper lady you would expect in this kind of environment. That’s why I couldn’t even stay mad when she said, “It might not be as bad as you think. Who knows? He could be handsome and sexy as hell. Win-win.”“Ugh, you’re missing the point, Athena!” I snapped, throwing my hands up. “I don’t need a man’s help to run this business. I’ve been training for this my whole life!” I paused, the memory of earlier that day flashing through my mind. My father had barged into a meeting I was leading with our shareholders and pulled me aside. I thought he wanted to discuss new strat

ANASTASIA’S POV “Let’s get this party started, bitches!” Athena hollered as we strutted into the club. Classic Athena—the life of the party and unapologetically bold. She thrived on attention, and tonight was no exception. Women were her playground, though she dabbled with men whenever the mood struck. We headed straight to our usual spot in the VIP section at Club Hera. It wasn’t my top choice of venues, but the exclusivity made up for it. Plus, the men here were yummy.“Our usual drinks,” I instructed the waiter as he approached. From across the room, I caught sight of the club manager and gave him a small wave. He nodded in acknowledgment. “Gosh the girls here are looking way too sexy, I want them all!” Athena said, her eyes flitting eagerly across the room from woman to woman.I chuckled. “Go easy on yourself, young lady. You can’t have them all.” “Watch me,” she replied with a wink, already scouting her prey. The waiter returned with our drinks, and I could feel myself settlin

NOLAN’S POVWalking into the house I saw my mother and her assistants preparing for dinner tonight. It all felt surreal. The reason why parents were going to such lengths for this arrangement was absurd. I shook my head as I caught a glimpse of my mother, orchestrating everything with her usual precision. She was a perfectionist through and through.“Hello, Mother,” I said, leaning in to plant a kiss on her foreheadShe looked up with her beautiful smile. “My love, I take it you’re in a better mood than yesterday?” she asked with a playful wiggle of her brows, her teasing making me chuckle. It amazed me how she and Father worked as a pair. They are polar opposites. Mother was gentle and fun, while Father was strict and stoic, except when he was around her. Their dynamic was enviable in many ways.“Not exactly. Seeing you prepare for this dinner makes it painfully real that there’s no way out of this for me,” I said, sinking into the chair next to her.Her expression softened as she re

ANASTASIA’S POVDriving into my parents’ estate, I found my father and his assistant outside, waiting on Mother, as usual. Her delays were as predictable as they were frustrating, and Father’s expression was a blend of annoyance and resignation.“Anastasia, finally,” he said, glancing at his watch. “Your mother will be out shortly. Are you ready?”I nodded, smoothing the soft fabric of my dress. “I’m ready,” I said as I leaned against the hood of my sports car. Minutes later, Mother emerged from the house, her assistant trailing behind. She walked past me, her heels clicking on the stone pavement, without so much as a glance in my direction. She slid into the car, and I entered mine. I waited as my parents' car and their security detail led the way, and then we were off to the Russo estate. The ride was silent except for the soft hum from the engine of my car. The weight of the night’s expectations pressed heavily on my shoulders. As much as I’d prepared myself for this moment, the r

NOLAN’S POVThe private elevator leading to my office building hummed softly as it took me to the executive floor. The polished steel doors slid open as we arrived. The pristine expanse of the executive floor came into view. The quiet buzz of the city below was almost entirely muted which gave the office space an air of detachment from the chaos of the world outside.Walking toward my office, I spotted Dimitri leaning against Rebecca’s desk. He was mid-conversation, undoubtedly trying to charm her again. Rebecca’s polite smile failed to mask her discomfort, but Dimitri didn’t seem to care. “Good afternoon, sir,” Rebecca greeted me, her voice a bit too cheerful as she glanced in my direction, she looked glad someone finally saved her from Dimitri. “Afternoon,” I replied, my eyes narrowing slightly as I glanced at Dimitri.“Well, well, look who’s here,” Dimitri said, falling into step with me as I headed for my office. “How’s the future husband-to-be this fine morning? ANASTASIA’S POV"Yes, Athena, I’m in my office. You can come by," I replied, signing off on a stack of documents on my desk. "Just ensure you’re here before 4 PM—I have business to attend to after that.""Oh, I’ll be there in an hour. Don’t miss me too much," Athena said cheerfully on the other end of the line.I chuckled dryly. "You wish."As I set the phone back on the desk, my secretary walked in, balancing yet another stack of files in her arms. I sighed inwardly. Managing a family furniture business as a front for our real operations was both a blessing and a curse. The endless paperwork tied to both businesses? Definitely a curse."They just never end, do they?" I said sarcastically, glancing at Ruth as she placed the files neatly on my desk. She gave me a polite smile, one I imagined she had reserved for all my complaints."You have a meeting at 2 o’clock, and you need to be at the other warehouse by 4," she said, her voice calm and professional as she ticked items off her iPa

ANASTASIA’S POV“This drawer should be for onesies only,” I said, gesturing toward the top section of the white-painted dresser. “Socks and mittens go in the drawer beneath it. Bottles and bibs can go in the basket next to the changing station.”Nolan’s mother gave a hum of approval, folding a tiny yellow onesie with smiling ducks printed on it and tucking it neatly into place. “You've got an eye for this thing,” she said, smiling over her shoulder at me.“I’m nesting,” I replied with a laugh, rubbing my belly. “It’s apparently a thing.”“Mm-hmm. I remember this phase. With Nolan, I was scrubbing the kitchen tiles with a toothbrush.”“That explains a lot,” I teased, making her laugh.Across the room, Nolan was on his knees, trying to assemble the crib. He frowned at the instruction sheet, then looked at the half-assembled frame.“This thing has thirty screws and no soul,” he muttered.I smiled. “Do you want me to take over?”“I’d rather wrestle a bear,” he replied, not looking up. “I

NOLAN’S POV“I can take a walk down the fucking street by myself, Nolan!” Anna snapped, already halfway to the door, her hand pressed against the arch of her back.I followed, stopping just behind her. “I can't let you go alone. You know that.”She turned slightly, her eyes a familiar blend of fire and frustration that had made me fall for her in the first place. “Nolan, I’m pregnant, not disabled.”“You know what? Maybe when my mother gets back from the store with Ivan, she can follow you for the walk. How does that sound?” I asked. She turned fully, with one hand dramatically pointing to her belly. “Nolan, if you don't let me go for this walk, I swear, I will fall face-first to the floor right here in this house. Your choice.”I stared at her, my lips parted slightly. I folded my arms, trying to gauge whether she was just venting or genuinely serious. She sounded exhausted.“Okay,” I said finally, raising my hands in surrender. “Okay. You can go. Just... be careful.”She gave me a

INTERLUDE(ANASTASIA’S POV)Pregnancy was supposed to come with strange cravings, mood swings, and a lot of hormonal crying. What I didn’t expect was for Nolan to turn into a full-time caregiver. It has been thirty weeks of pampering that bordered on suffocating. Since the doctor announced that I was pregnant, Nolan has barely left my side.He rubbed my feet even when I insisted I didn’t need it. He read pregnancy books and argued with my mother about prenatal supplements as if he was a professional. At first, it was sweet. But now? It is borderline suffocating.Just yesterday, he said I was walking too fast because I walked to the couch. And what was his response? “You should pace yourself. That’s... eight whole steps.”On most days, I didn’t know whether to kiss him or strangle him.And if Nolan was the overwhelming doting partner, Dimitri had become the chaotic uncle that no one asked for but somehow couldn’t get rid of. He was always around. I suspected he’d unofficially moved i

NOLAN’S POV“Anna!” I heard Ivan call out behind me. I turned around to see what was going on. I watched Anna drop and Ivan caught her. The second Anna’s body went limp, my heart nearly stopped.I ran up to check on her.“I’ve got her,” Ivan said, holding her.“No. Give her to me,” I snapped, snatching her out of his arms and cradling her against my chest. “Get the fucking car running. Now!”Ivan ran out the door without another word.I looked down at her pale skin as I carried her out of the warehouse. “Stay with me, Princess. You’re gonna be okay.”She didn’t respond.“Dimitri,” I snapped as I ran out. “Meet us at the clinic. Now.”He nodded, already pulling out his phone. The second I got to the car, Ivan had the back door open. I climbed in with her still in my arms. She wasn’t moving. My fingers stroked her clammy cheek as I whispered her name over and over again. “Anna. Baby, come on, wake up.”She didn’t move.My mind spiraled. This must be the fever she claimed was gone.“Dam

ANASTASIA’S POVI zipped up my suitcase and leaned against it, pressing my palm against my forehead for the third time this morning. The fever I woke up with had dulled, but I was still feeling the fatigue in my bones.Nolan walked in with a towel slung over his shoulder, eyes dropping to where I sat at the edge of the bed zipping up my suitcase. “You sure you’re okay?” he asked, coming to crouch in front of me, lifting his hand to check my forehead.I brushed him off gently. “I’m fine, really. The fever's gone.He frowned. “You sure?”“I’m sure, Nolan,” I said, giving him a small smile. “I swear the temperature’s gone.”He gave me a long, assessing look before standing. “Okay… but I’m keeping an eye on you.”He didn’t look convinced but didn’t argue. Instead, he crouched to grab the handle of my suitcase, zipped it up completely, and rolled it beside his. As I stood and adjusted the strap on my purse, he watched me quietly. I felt the weight of his gaze and glanced up.“What?” I ask

Our shoulders touched and suddenly, I wasn’t in the foyer anymore, I was tangled in sheets, lips tingling from kisses that weren’t my husband’s. I blinked the memory away and focused on Nolan who was now standing in front of me.His face was unreadable. “I asked Maria where you were,” he said quietly. “She said you haven’t been home in a week.”I straightened. “I went out of town for work,” I said, clearing my throat. His eyes searched my face for something. “Why didn’t you tell me?”I scoffed, not even b

NOLAN’S POVThe operations were finally over. It was time to head home.We were stationed in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city, waiting for the chopper to fuel up and take us home. Camila leaned against a steel pillar, her arms crossed, boots clicking softly as she shifted her weight. She looked too at ease for someone who had carried out dangerous operations back to back for one month.“Are you always this quiet or I broke you?” she asked, sizing me up with her eyes.“Just waiting to get the hell out of here,” I muttered, watching Dimitri scroll through messages on a secured tablet nearby. She smirked and pushed off the pillar, walking towards me.“Hmm, I guess you don't really have the stomach for it,” she said, moving closer. “If you asked me, I’d say otherwise. You’re a natural.”I glanced at her, unamused. “I don’t think that's a compliment I’d like to take.”She gave a dramatic sigh, brushing imaginary dust off my jacket. “You’re still thinking about Raul’s sp
