Chapter Twenty-Nine

I knew when we were close to the packhouse as I felt the shift in the air. Glancing out the window, I could see the shimmering that reached miles into the sky.

“That’s a lot of security,” I stated. It reminded me of the wards around Autumn’s village. 

Jax snorted. “Yeah a lot of wolves don't really like to leave the packhouse. There’s only so many jobs that need to be done,so purebloods patrol the border.”

“I-” I went to tell him about the magical shields that were around the property but stopped myself. Does Jax know? I had sensed his tension around magic beforehand. Maybe he didn't know and that wasn't something I wanted to reveal. As we passed through it, I shuddered. The magic clung around  me, daring me to absorb it.
