Jenny posted a picture of me and her brother, who had an intellectual disability. The caption? "Finally, a happy ending!" The comments were all the same: "Is this your sister-in-law? She’s gorgeous!" I simply replied with a question mark, but Jenny ignored me and responded to someone else instead. "She's kinda my sister-in-law, yes!" It didn't take long for Steven to call me, his tone full of anger. "It was just a little edit, do you really have to blow things out of proportion?" Half an hour later, Jenny posted another photo of her sitting in Steven's luxury car, and even tagged me in it. "We may not be related by blood, but this big brother of mine has always been my rock!" Steven commented. "I'll always be here." I knew he was trying to get a rise on me on purpose to appease Jenny, but I didn't grace them with a reply this time. All I did was like the post and file for divorce.

Chapter 1

When I got home from my grandmother's funeral, Steven was there, leaning back on the sofa. "You're back."I nodded, before walking straight to my bedroom. Suddenly, Steven stood up and grabbed my wrist. "Isn't there anything you should say?"I hadn’t shed a single tear during the funeral, but I cried the entire way home. Now, I was just exhausted. "No."Steven picked up on how cold I was acting, and his expression darkened even more. "Don't you owe Jenny an apology for replying to her like that on social media and embarrassing her?"I actually laughed out of sheer disbelief and anger. My husband, who I'd been married to for five years, didn't keep me company at all in the most painful moments of my life. He hadn't even said anything to comfort me or care, and now he was hung up over something so laughably trivial? Sure, he had claimed that he was too busy with work, so he couldn't attend my grandmother's funeral back in my hometown. That didn't seem to stop him from going ba...

Chapter 2
I'd never brought up divorce, no matter how fiercely we fought in the past, so this clearly took him off guard. He immediately came close and wrapped me in his arms, moving away my hand gently to check on my face. "Does it hurt? I'm so sorry, Mel… I-I just got worked up, I didn't mean it… Let me take you to the hospital."Without missing a beat, I moved away from him and walked into the bedroom wordlessly, closing it in his face. This, clearly, didn't go well with him, and he started shouting outside the door. "I wouldn't have slapped you if you weren't being unreasonable, Melanie! Stephanie and I only had each other growing up, so you know how important she is to me! How could you say that to hurt me?"How laughable. Did he forget that I was there for him in his most trying times too? I was even the one who paid for his sister's university tuition!I was his lawfully wedded wife, yet he was fine with Jenny making rumors about me being with another man? How could he have allow

Chapter 3
My legs hurt whenever it rained, so Steven offered to send me to work. I didn't refuse. He drove over with a new car, and when he saw my puzzlement, he explained, "Jenny was afraid of breaking her new car because she just got her driver's license, so I gave her mine to drive."I averted my gaze and nodded, not saying anything in reply. Now, I knew why Jenny had tagged me in that photo she posted—she wanted to boast that Steven had gifted her his favorite car. In the past, I had accidentally scuffed some coating off of his car when I just got my driver's license too, and he couldn't help but complain about it, "Typical of a female driver, honestly. From now on, don't drive. You don't want people to complain about you for being a terrible driver, right?"From then on, I didn't so much as get the chance to touch the steering wheel. Later on, when Jenny started learning how to drive, he was willing to take the time to train her, and even dragged me into it, too.Once, he didn't ha

Chapter 4
My gaze didn't so much as flicker away from the screen. "I forgot."Steven came up and wrapped an arm around my shoulder, shaking a pack of food in front of me almost proudly. "You haven't eaten either, huh? Well, Jenny told me to bring you something to eat!"You're always so mean to Jenny, but she's always been nice to you in return! You embarrassed her in front of her relatives, but she still remembered to bring you food. You'd better apologize to her later when she and her family arrive, and be a good hostess!"I glanced at the words 'Jemma's Kitchen' printed on the packaging, and moved my body away from Steven. "It's fine. I've already eaten." Besides, I didn't eat leftovers.Just an hour ago, Jenny flaunted how she was eating dinner with Steven on social media. "Woah, I almost died in that accident! Steven and I are having dinner to recover from the shock!" The location? Jemma's Kitchen, of course.Steven didn't seem to hear what I said and started to lay out the food i

Chapter 5
When Jenny's family arrived, I'd already packed my bags and was ready to return to my hometown."Honey! Honey!"Out of nowhere, her dim-witted brother, Jeremy, excitedly rushed up and hugged me."Wow, my brother really likes Melanie!" Jenny giggled, covering her mouth. My friends, who I'd worked hard together with in the past, also came together with Jenny, but they joined in the laughter too, teasing, "We’ve always heard Jenny say her brother likes beautiful women, and she wasn’t lying! He walked in and went straight for the prettiest one here!"As it turns out, my so-called old friends had already grown close enough to Jenny to joke around like this.Jeremy was incredibly strong, and I couldn’t break free.Seeing as no one was going to help me any time soon, I stomped on his foot hard, and he finally let go with a pained cry."You're a bad person, Honey! Bad! Bad!" Jenny’s mother immediately rushed over to protect her son, looking at me with disapproval as if I really were

Chapter 6
I drifted awake to the sweet, wondrous sound of Stephanie giving Steven a verbal lashing. "Did you fall and hurt your damn head? How could you let the brother of that witch touch Mel?!"How did you not know that Mel was pregnant, huh? Now, she had a miscarriage because of you! That's your own flesh and blood, you idiot! What kind of husband—what kind of father—does that? Dammit, what sins did I commit in a past life to have a brother like you?!"Oh, don't even get me started on that witch Jenny! She's been a manipulative snake ever since we were kids! Brother this, brother that, when I'm your damned sister, not her! She probably satisfied your savior complex real good, huh? You always gave her everything she asked for, after all!"All that's fine and dandy, but did you forget that she was the one who tattled on us when we were being pursued by debt collectors? I don't get it! Why in the world would you choose to protect a woman like her instead of Mel? "If anything happens to her,

Chapter 7
When I was younger, my parents were busy with business all over the globe, while my brother was busy with his studies at a boarding school. Nobody had the time to take care of me, so they sent me back to my grandmother's. Being separated from my parents and brother made me miserable. I disliked making friends and gradually became an outcast at my new school. Eventually, I became a target for bullies. They would tear up my textbooks and hide my completed homework, making teachers scold me. Sometimes, they dragged me into the bathroom just to humiliate and belittle me.There was a reservoir behind the school. One day, they tied my hands, threw me into the water, and secured the other end of the rope to a tree trunk. That day, a storm raged, Thunder rumbled for hours, and the heavy rain caused the water level to rise higher and higher.I was submerged in the bone-chilling water for what felt like an eternity while they sat there and played board games, laughing and cracking jokes, b

Chapter 8
"Melanie, do you really have to be this ruthless? Jenny’s brother is just a fool who doesn’t know anything! Your fall was just an accident. What would Jenny do if he got arrested?"It had been three days since my brother threw Steven out. Now he was back, but only to plead for Jenny.I handed him the divorce agreement calmly. "Sign it."Steven froze, his face turning red with anger. "Are you being serious right now? You're getting a divorce over something so trivial? Just for getting you to make an idiot happy? "Does our relationship mean nothing to you?"After that, he grabbed the divorce papers from my hand and ripped them to shreds.I looked at him calmly, inwardly breathing a sigh of relief that our child had left this world. They deserved a better father than Steven. Suddenly, I smiled. "If you agree to the divorce, I can agree to not press charges against Jeremy."Steven's face twisted with rage. "Melanie, are you threatening me right now? Do you really think they'd rea

Chapter 9
The moment those words left my mouth, Jenny's eyes lit up, overjoyed. Meanwhile, Steven looked like he'd lost his soul, staring blankly at me. "Does it really have to end like this? I love you, Melanie…"Jenny's expression instantly changed, and she let out a pitiful cry. "Ah, it hurts so much!"Just then, my brother walked in. The moment he saw the state of the hospital room, the chicken soup spilled all over me, with Steven and Jenny at the scene, he immediately understood what was going on. Without hesitation, he drove them both out.For some reason, Steven seemed to have lost his mind, showing up at my hospital room every day and refusing to leave. "I'm sorry, Melanie! Can we not get divorced?"He brought ninety-nine roses each time, acting like a devoted husband who wanted nothing more than to take care of his wife, but my heart felt nothing. When I was finally discharged, he went even further. A full makeup team and professional photographers arrived at my door."Melanie

Chapter 10
After running around for a few days, my brother finally finished collecting the documents I needed for the divorce. When I placed the photos of him and Jenny entering a hotel together in front of him, his face turned pale, then red, then pale again. Panicked, he stammered, "Melanie, I was just drunk that night! N-Nothing happened! You know you're the only one I love…"I-I just see her as a little sister…"His voice grew weaker and weaker.I let out a cold laugh. "Steven, can't you at least man up and admit to what you did? Is it really that hard to admit that you were cheating on me?"In hindsight, the truth was in plain sight the whole time. The date he started arguing with me more and more was clear—it was the day I asked him directly if he liked Jenny. That was the first time he'd gotten in such a fit of rage towards me, but now it was clear that he was acting on a guilty conscience. I'd hit the nail straight on the head. To cover up his affair, he had to shift the blame on
